Those eyepieces are stellar. Very menacing, yet not OTT.

The cape is fantastic, and the weathering is spot-on.

The red stripe, while nice, seems a bit....too large? I guess what I'm trying to say is, the stripe could maybe be a bit thinner. To my eye, it makes the faceplate look a little too large when paired with those wonderful eyepieces, in comparison to his shoulders/upper body.

Still, I've been looking forwards to seeing paint on Vall ever since I first saw your final build. Keep up the great work ^^

Was the entire base model a scion before the GS?

I think it was based on one of the Dreamforge Eisenkern Troopers but don't quote me on that one...

The Observer is correct, and you can see my post about building him here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278032-bcks-thread-of-stuff-im-an-viii-again/page-81?do=findComment&comment=4147273

I've always had a thing for stompy robots and when FW first started putting out the Mechanicum stuff, I knew they'd get me eventually. I still intend to do a joint Dusk Raiders and Mechanicum force, but right now I'm feeling a little burned out working on marines, so the plan for this year's ETL is to try to build, base, and paint all of the robots I just received in the mail:

18 Thallax with 6 plasma-fusils, 5 Castellax, 1 Thanatar, 1 Thanatar-Calix, and last but not least, a mystery model that I shall convert into a count-as Archmagos Inar Satarael.

I've assembled my first of many Thallax, and I can already tell it's going to be much harder converting these guys than marines. It took some doing to open up this guy's stance and tweak the way he's pointing the weapon.

Even though it was my day off, I only got two more Thallax done. Partly because of errands and stuff, but also because there's a lot of clean up and some straightening of parts I have to do, but also because the figures with independent hips and pelvis (practically all of the robots, Contemptors, etc) are extremely difficult to pose since you can't really hold them all together at the same time. Even blue tac is only marginally useful.

I'd like try to get 2-3 of these Thallax done a day, so I can hopefully have them and the bigger robots all assembled before the ETL starts.

I've been scarce the last month or so because my mother has been in and out the hospital for most of that time, and she's got a surgery planned in a few weeks. I'm the only child with the schedule that allows someone to take her to and from all the appointments, but we got some good news this past week and I thought I'd try to get at least one item together for the ETL: a Macharius Vulcan.

It's not an official model so it has some problems, which I plan on trying to fix. You may notice I have removed the tracks from it. I didn't want to, because these tanks actually have somewhat realistic looking tracks, unlike the HH marine vehicles, but because the casting wasn't spectacularly done, the tracks were a bit concave in shape as well as quite a few little pieces of them broke off during shipping.

Here on the left you can see the concave shape and the broken tracks, and a test fit of the replacements.

The tracks are from a Tamiya kit of a 1/35 scale German Panther WWII tank. I bought the kit years ago from a used model pile at the local hobby store. There were some parts missing from it and once I found that out, I was probably never going to build it, and on a whim I tried out the rubber tracks from it and they're a perfect fit.

My mother's home from surgery and everything seems to be going well for her, so now that I'm not running her all over the place, I sat down to see about getting some work done on this Macharius, and found even more problems with the casting.

The back of the turret has a lot of air bubble pitting, and the big stowage bins not only had lots of tiny air bubble pits to contend with, but the bins themselves were warped and out of alignment. You can see where I've started to fill in some of the pitting on the stowage bins after a good amount of block sanding to correct the shape, but there's still a lot more to go.

And then, I don't even know what's going on with the back of the main tank body piece. Those light spots of varying shapes is something I've never seen before on a resin model (even a recast) and what it looks like to me is someone chopped up a bunch of cured resin -- maybe failed pieces or pour vents/sprue -- and mixed it with fresh resin to stretch it a little further.

Since it's only on the back of the piece, I feel certain the piece was poured vertically with this at the bottom where all the resin chunks settled. I've started to fill in some of the larger air bubble holes with putty as you can see.

One of the biggest problems with this particular recast with a mold that was obviously not in the best of shape, is that a lot of the rivets are malformed or missing, so I'll be removing a lot of them and probably won't be replacing them.

The back end of the tank is looking a lot better, but I couldn't seem to get a pic of it that wasn't blurry. I've also done more work on the track sections, and have some pics of those.

Not unlike the Sicaran Venator from a little while back, the armor plates on the sides of the track sections were a bit concave as well as having badly cast rivets, so the sanding block came to the rescue once more. I also got the new tracks done on the left track section.

There's a little more clean up and body work to do as well as the other track, then I can start on the details hopefully get some paint on this beast very soon.
