And a weapon staff like this would be cool ;)

No promises, Jasp, but we can talk about it later.

Here's a quick sketch of the templar idea with the mask helmet:

For the shield, I'd want something like this:

You know, it does. And after some more thinking, the face mask just doesn't quite say "templar" to me.

I set about trying to find another helmet to fit, but nothing was working. I had an idea for something based on one of the Khorne berzerker helms, so I snipped off the ears and got to work with the blade and files. What was once this:

Started changing into something else, but nothing seemed to be working. I cut off the trim above the eye slit and it was better, but still not there. I cut off the sensor bank-thingies on the sides... still not it. Finally, I broke out the greenstuff to get what I wanted.

It felt like a good blend of space marine and the old column-shaped templar helms. More work will be done on it once this basic shape cures.

Ahh, looking much better :smile.:

I think so too.

I didn't notice how much different the two halves of the maltese cross were until I saw the pics. :( I'll have to wait 'til I get home from work to fix it.

Jaspcat, Maxmini makes a helmet that looks like the first pic and I might still have one from an old order from them.  If i can find it I'll post a pic of it for BCK and yourself.  I'll send it along to him if it's something he can work from.

the first one...

but I think someone else makes something closer to it then that...

That's the one I was talking about, I haven't seen anyone that makes a closer one than that. I don't look at much stuff fo Thousand Sons though.

BCK I think that the Templar helmet looks really good so far. Much better than the Bretonian Knight helmets stuck on a sm torso I've seen before.

Here's some "egyptian mecha" heads from the same site, with some cool ones and some kinda bad ones mixed in: http://maxmini.eu/conversion-bits/head-swaps/mecha-egyptian-heads-bits  and part 2: http://maxmini.eu/conversion-bits/head-swaps/immortals-heads-bits

Mikhail - I've seen some of those and I agree that doesn't work very well. >_<  I'm kicking around the idea of making this guy an apothecary/hospitaller.

The thing about ordering direct from Maxmini is that you can request specific heads in the batch they send you when you place the order. At least that used to be the case, I haven't ordered from them in a while now.

The problem with the Bretonian helmets us the size coupled with the crests which don't fit the 40K aesthetic in my opinion. I think that yours will look much better BCK. Everything you sculpt does anyway, I don't see why this would be any different. You should make the Templar a Librarian, GW will probably add rules for them in an upcoming BT supplement.

LOL! I'd rather not incite a crusade

I just got a copy of C:SM from a friend as a gift and it says that the BT had Librarians before and would welcome them into their chapter. You aren't making this Templar as part of any specific army, why not make the last Librarian or something epic like that?

Eh, I already did a libby for my knightly AoV and I like the idea of a really mean looking medic. "Patience brother, I must hack this traitor apart before I can tend to your wounds!"

I think I have angered the machine spirit of my camera since it refuses to focus properly on the front view. Perhaps a trip to Tech-Brother Orathos is in order.

I'm not a fan of the Templar styled helmet. You haven't started off with a symmetrical face plate. The right hand side of the helmet comes lower than the left hand side. Some simple sanding should be able to fix that up. However, the eye slits are too far apart. You're cover the nose bridge and about a third of the eyes. The Emperor's Champion model should be a good starting point for reference and comparison.

Looking good so far, not sure if you have used the FW Templar dread for reference obviously size might be an issue but its close to the design.

DR

No, actually, I had forgotten about the FW dread. I was just going off some of the designs of the real world templar helmets I saw online. After looking around at some BT figures, I can see that the idea I had has been done quite a lot. So, back to the drawing board.
