Watch eBay and hope, I guess. :sad.:

I'll check around and see what I can find.

Thanks!

Good stuff BCK, that jetbike is very promising.

I agree with The_Chaplain, very promising.

Thanks, but I'm kinda worried about the symmetry. I'll have a go at the other side later today.

And now it's happy fun art time! I've been looking around the web for some inspiration for a Rogue Trader and come across some stuff, most of which is from the various Fantasy Flight Games line of 40k RPGs. First up is the oldest one in the batch, which is actually a Rogue Trader done by Adrian Smith:

I like the Admech henchman he has with him, as this ties in with my idea.

Cropped cover art for FFGs Rogue Trader game:

A couple of female inquisitors:

And various other stuff I liked:

This one, I would LOVE to do if I was a much better sculptor, and I'll just link it since it would be a crime to reduce the size of it: http://i.imgur.com/2BKiCsM.jpg

So, for the most part, the trend in high fashion for important Imperial citizens seems to be big coats, skulls on the knee pads, sashes, medals, purity seals, and maybe an animal carcass. I know the last one is technically WHFB, but the resemblance to the 40k inquisitor model I have is uncanny.

After gathering up all this stuff, I started to think maybe these all look a little too "clean" to be running with a detachment of Night Lords. Maybe this RT should be more like this?

*edit* I had all the pics lined up nicely when previewing, but then they got all wonky after posting. Editing to tidy up.

BCK, sorry to hear about the car, that really sucks.

That said, the NL jetbike looks awesome, and you will just have to swallow your fear of asymmetry and complete it for your public (especially those of us that are totally rubbish).

Really like the Sith Lord-ish Inquisitor idea too. :)

I think you should use the last image of that Sith Lord as a basis. That would be wicked in model form.

Nice collection of images, makes me want to give an Inq a go. Especially the one before last.

That said, the last one does look very NL-y and I'm sure with your GS abilities you could do it justice.

The consensus seems to lean toward the Sith-y look. Mmm, yes, tasty grimdark.

If you try to re-create Darth Malgus's rebreather in model form I'd suggest maybe using the rebreather head from the new tactical squad kit, it's very similiar in design and should be fairly easy to get it looking how you want it. ^_^

Brother kage ill need you to produce some awesome NL so I can reference you in my new blog ;)

I want to cover everything heresy related rules conversions others armies every squad and model. You and some of the other brothers here on the B&C have made me up the intensity of my hobby endeavour

I like that head, but I think it's a little too bulky for this guy, and I think it's slight variation on the rebreather head that used to come in the older tac squad boxes. I dig around in my bitz box and found a couple that might work, including the older variant I mentioned, on the left in this pic:

I always thought that Cadian Officer withe sword and one hand behind his back would be a great starting point for an Inq. He'd not really fit the Sith consensus of the moment though.

Cheers,

Jono

If I go the route of the traditional look for a rogue trader, I was planning on using either the Vostroyan colonel or the Lord Commissar as a

base(since I own both already). As the Vostroyan is metal and the commissar is finecast, the easier one to convert would probably win out.

Brother kage ill need you to produce some awesome NL so I can reference you in my new blog

I'll see what I can do. :D

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion on the grim dark route for the rogue trader? Have you considered the death corps of Krieg figures? The commissar, commander and quartermaster figures have potential for what you're going for and even provide an opportunity to add a hood. Also for the rebreather why not a Chadian command squad rebreather on a suitable guard head? That way it isn't immediately distinguishable as a marine head on a non sm body. (Sorry if the formatting of this post is off I'm posting via smart phone)

There's also a sweet rebreather-head in the new Tac-box. I'm sure someone you know will have one spare...

I think that a human Inquisitor is an excellent opportunity to address the size discrepancy between transhuman Space Marines and unaugmented humans.  Why not use something besides space marine armor parts for your conversion?  I have a few minis converted that might make my point if you don't mind my posting pics in your topic?

By your word.  The last one is a little tall but comparatively thin as befits an astropath I think.  It,s all about the bits you use.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Are the first two made with Cadian parts? The way I'm picturing this guy, since he used to be a Terran king before the unification wars and how genegineering was so rampant in those days, he could very well be a modified human and come close to a marine in stature. Or his armor could give him that stature at any rate, but if I can keep him smaller than the other marines, I certainly will try.

And is this also a sneak peek at your 30k Word Bearers? ;)

I did some more digging and FINALLY found the artwork that made me think of the Sith Lord look in the first place. It's one of the many pieces Andrea Uderzo did for Fantasy Flight Games, but he has very little of that stuff on his DA gallery. This might give you guys a better idea of what I'm thinking of:

http://i.imgur.com/t3pno3q.jpg?1

He looks like he has on power armor, but nothing quite like an astartes. I like the blend of armor and the layers of clothing as well.

A few more inquisitors in power armor:

That last one looks like Uderzo based on the Witch Hunter figure GW used to have 3 variants of. I snagged this variant off of eBay relatively cheap earlier today:

I dunno quite what I'll do for the RT yet, but I might be able to convert that figure into part of his/her retinue.

They are made with FW Traitor Guard torsos, DV cultist legs and a mix of FW and GW arms the heads are Cadian.  The Astropath is a Warhammer sorcerer lord with the head from the DV chaos marine with the third eye.

That is the first of my 30K Word Bearers as a matter of fact.  He is actually the marine I built to represent you so you get the dubious honor of naming him.

I follow your line of thinking on the engineered human Rogue Trader idea and I think it's a good one.  He's bound to stand apart from the marines by his paint and armor decoration alone.  I don't imagine he will be bleeding from his eye lenses.

I have a DV set of the cultists. I'll keep those in mind.

Wow, cool! I'll have to think on it. :biggrin.:

I'll have to push myself on this guy. I want him to look really cool. Now I just need to start figuring out what parts to use for the base.

None on eBay and the only ones I can find elsewhere are in Europe and I don't want to pay that much for it.

Ah, should've checked things like ebay before I made the suggestion- these ideas just sort of spring to mind and I don't really think about potential financing until I've gone and shot my mouth off.  (And I'm about to do it again, bear with me)

This model is stylistically very similar to the one from the Andrea Uderzo piece you posted (goodness her FFG artwork is fabulous, isn't it?)

All that would need to be done really is a head swap, weapon swap and sculpting some robes. I'm not 100% on the scale, but I can check into it for you if you'd like. Granted this is all based upon if youre still looking for a base for the RT model.

No, I appreciate the suggestions. I bounce ideas off of Mikhail all the time via PM and he has the nice habit of coming up with good ideas for parts either I forgot about, or had never seen before, so please, don't hesitate to suggest something in the future. Unfortunately, right now with the work I just did on my car, and the current troubles that will cost me a minimum of the $500 deductible, I'm getting low on funds. And since my current crappy job requires me to drive, I don't know how long it will be before I start working again, so I'm trying to work on these ideas with things I have at hand.

Right now, I'm looking at a few options: using some dark eldar parts as a base and do a crapload of sculpting, using something from the limited amount of WHFB stuff I have which also require a fair amount of sculpting, or using a Master of the Fleet body. It's a good base to start from, and if you mirror the inquisitor image...

Yeah, that could work! Right?

Right?

Some scraping and greenstuff and half the works done ;)

If you give him a book with a blood stain on it you can stay to the fluff iirc rogue traders are given a time with the big e's blood on it as a sign of their exempt status.
