I like Ace's second colour scheme a lot, it's a very nice shade of blue. The v5 edition is, to my eyes, a little too close to baby blue.
Maybe a quatered scheme with Ace's colours would be cool? If you're up for quaters I think I'd be awsome. And quite Fisty.

Regarding the Sisters: Having an Order following your chapter around for a thousand years or more sounds like a nice way to do it.

At first they would be there to make sure your guys play nice, but over the course of generations surely a close bond would form between the Order and Chapter.
That would make the Sisters something of a ceremonial watch dog, opening the way to all sort of traditions and rituals you can put in sidebars and the like.

 

Also, I don't think I've seen anyone writing something like that (well enough for me to remember it), so it would be an interestingly novel angle to persue.

Nice strong yellow with Ace's baby blue/grey in a quartered scheme. Really dark red for the chest deco, just seems Fist-y to me!

Ha, yeah, I'm a straight-from-the-bottle painter; no fancy-schmancy mixing for me. I always leave a shoulder blank to free up iconography and junk like that. Helps me visualize it better.

And I do like the blue, it just doesn't seem stoic and dour enough to me. Although now that I've seen SCL's quartered scheme, it works better. Custom color, yellow and a quartered scheme? Way too close to actual work for me

Hey, I liked your blue Ace! In fact I like it alot better than the grayblue/babyblue. Either red or black (or even bone) one the Aquilla would be rad.

I like space wolf blue, but I like it mostly on space wolves.

My blue is extra-vivid, so enemies will definitely see you coming and know darn well it's the sons of Big Daddy Dorn who's gonna their faces off.

I must say I like aces newest scheme a lot... Might do it old school painter later to have a look. As for the dog and the car... Well, my dog and my wife's dog have been staying at my father in laws house until we could sort out a dog enclosure at our new rental. Then my dog decided to lead a raid on my father in laws chicken coup, butchering most of his chooks, along with my wife's dog and my father in laws dog. So we were told he had to go by this weekend or he would be shot. Then he helped himself again to the remaining chooks the next day. So my father in law put his own dog down, as it is now blooded and likely to attack just about anything now, and we had to pick our dogs up from the nearest city. And by nearest I mean about and hours drive. Anyway on the way back my wife's car decided to blow up its thermostat, head gasket, or possibly radiator pump... And so we ended up stuck in the middle of no where with two dogs, a buggered car and temperatures in the early single didgets... Needless to say we didn't end up with much time at home...

As for the Chapter, I'm sorry to say that I don't have much to add. Colors usually aren't my strong suit. Other than that, I like Malthe's idea for a Chapter that has sisters as allies through a less than perfect history. That history could also help with the esoteric beliefs, perhaps a less angst-y "you wouldn't understand what we've been through" ordeal. Up to you whether the sisters are in on it or not.

 

Have you had any ideas since your initial brain storming? When you get the chance, just throwing your options in a post should make this process a little smoother.

 

I know it's probably farthest back in terms of priority, but when you do get to the Deathwatch Challenge, can you throw up your edited character bios? I'd love to see something like that again.

Okay so some rough ideas for now

 

Founding: Chapter is founded to act as part of a crusade again rebel or Chaos held space. Crusade is bogged down even with chapters help till mr tactical discovers a young girl on one of the worlds whom claims to speak to the emperor. This young girl proceeds to lead the crusade forces to eventual victory before being declared a heretic and executed, only to be renamed a saint later in imperial history and an order of the sisters end up protecting her tomb site. Chapter is awarded their home world for their part in the crusade. Mr tactical eventually becomes a captain and then is finally awarded the role of chapter master following his role in driving off an Ork waaagh. Perhaps he is eventually interred in a dreadnought.

 

Penitent Crusade: chapters chief apothecary begins to experiment on chapter gene seed some time in m38 or 39. Promises to "fix" flaws in the imperial fist gene seed. Is either already tainted by chaos or is unwittingly drawn in the tzeentch web. Through either a whistle blower with in the chapter or someone operating alongside the chapter this affront to the emperors work is raised to the attention of a high inquisitor whom upon investigation declared the chapter tainted. The chapter dispute this judgment and eventually tempers flare with the chapter fortifying their home world and an imperial force launched against them. This force consists of the sisters of the saint order, and one or two space marine chapters, possible a fellow liberites chapter. This turns into a stalemate due to the chapters natural siege prowess for dorns gene line. However when one of the chapters successors turn up to help the Imperial force the chapter realises that they are indeed in the wrong and immediately surrender. The chapter hands over the apothecaries responsible and are saved from total destruction by both willingness to surrender in the end and their relationship with the orders patron saint. Instead they are sent on a penitent crusade with all that entails and the order is set as a permanent watchdog over the chapter.

 

Geneseed taint: the corruption if the chapters geneseed takes form in a few ways. Whilst the battle brothers can sleep they are known to have horrible vivid nightmares. Marines may also enter into a coma like state when they sleep. Some may sleep for days, weeks or even years. Some have been known to sleep for a millennium. Others have still not woken. Those who do wake claim to have not just had nightmares, but to be literally trapped in them. I think this might essentially be their souls or spirits travel to a daemon world but are still tethered to their mortal body. Te chapters apothecarium struggles because not only are they no longer trusted by their brothers but as more and more brothers fall to the coma sleep the chapter must devote more and more resources to keeping those who sleep alive.

Great direction, this looks like it will turn out really interesting. Will you be developing a balance of both founding and crusade history, or focusing more on recent times? The inclusion of the Chapter Master suggested he would have a lasting role to play.

So before I work on much more of this draft IA I need some advice or ideas as it were.  The roll of Esoteric Beliefs... I have no idea what so ever to put here.  Whilst I imagine it would tie in with their whole conscious going into the warp when they go all coma like I want there to be more then just one hook for this Chapter.  And unusual beliefs are something that need explanation.  Any ideas that you guys can come up with for me to work on would be awesome.

I would try to tie the beliefs in with some of the other wild elements, like the bestial companions and gene-seed mutation. So some sort of belief system evolves around the Sleep, perhaps as a means for them to come to terms with it, accept it. It can have as a focus a spiritual totem, a beast of your world of some type. Maybe there's a connection, like a species that has a strange attraction to the comatose. Maybe even ones with similar sleeping habits.

 

On a side note, my last phase in the Liber Astartes Campaign is Leopard-related. It's still bad, unedited, but I'd like to know how the Leopards would react,

I think something with spirit companions would be kind of cool for a Dornian chapter.
Maybe give them a russian twist, as in shamanism and creepy farytales?

Sorry, I know it's a side point really but my brain keeps coming back to the colour scheme for these guys! If you're going for bright and bold, then the blue needs to not only be bright but also deep enough to contrast with the equally bold yellow (much like the red on the HG pic KHK linked to)

On fluff, bestial companions for a Dornian Chapter? In my head, it'd have to be those big, ugly medieval hunting dogs.
