Ace Debonair
Everyone's just so keen on replacing my custom blue. I attempted to darken the yellow instead but got a quartered blue and brown that looked rather familiar to me. Lysimachus is definitely on to something, but I think it's actually possible to overdo the contrast, so I thought I'd try this: EDIT: Bye bye unneeded pic! I'm not sure about the shoulderpad rims, but it's not like they'd be hard to change. It's sunburst yellow, dwarf bronze and ultramarine blue, before anyone asks. I thought I'd skip using the custom stuff this time. Ecritter
I still hate quartered. Just saying. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278463-silver-phoenixs-path-of-penance/page/3/#findComment-3445132 Share on other sites
Malthe
Do the shoulder trims and chest eagle in red and that'll be a great scheme. I still like the slightly turqouise blue better though edit: A test mini would be nice Silver ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278463-silver-phoenixs-path-of-penance/page/3/#findComment-3445303 Share on other sites
elohimalpha
... On fluff, bestial companions for a Dornian Chapter? In my head, it'd have to be those big, ugly medieval hunting dogs. Mastiff's a good choice for a huge ugly guard dog. Ace Debonair
I still hate quartered. Just saying. Then I won't make you any quartered schemes for your chapters. But since this isn't your Chapter, quartered schemes are fair game. Brother Argent
Okay so my most recent thoughts on these guys: Origins will be divided into four sub-headings: Founding/The Gallia Crusade: This section will detail from the Chapters founding, to its involvement with the Gallia Crusade, the rise and martyrdom of Saint Lorraine followed by the Crusades success in honour of the Saint and the Chapter being gifted their homeworld of Toyes (name up for changing) There will be a side bar in this section with brief details of Saint Lorraine, the Order of sisters founded in her honour and the orders watch of the chapter. Wardens of the Gallian Rift: This section will detail from the end of the Gallian Crusade as the Chapter begins to set themselves up as protectors of the region. Installing themselves as the overall military force in the region of space. It will them begin to enter into the rise of the cult within the Chapter that leads to the eventual experimentation on geneseed. This will be the smallest section and may be blended into the next branch. The Price of Perfection: This section will go over the rise of Apothecary Abel in the Chapter and his convincing of the Chapter Council to allow his experimentation on Geneseed. I will follow on with the degradation of those experimented on or with and the eventual act of a battle brother (probably a Librarian whom detected the taint of Chaos in the Apothecaries work) to warn the Inquisition. It will then detail the attack on the Chapter and the eventual surrender of the Chapter with the arrival of one of their successors. The Path of Penance: This will tell of their penitent crusade and the judgement following the fall of Toyes. It will cover the Chapters attempt to redeem themselves and the touch over the 100 years of penitent war and their return to the light of the Imperium. It will briefly mention the damage done to their geneseed and their now desperate struggle to survive. A small sidebar here will cover Apothecary Abel's judgement and then his escape and briefly hint at his how Chaos alignment. Homeworld: Will start with a paragraph about the Gallican Rift, a finger of Imperial Space that divides a major orkish Empire and a region of Warp storms and Chaos aligned nasties. Next paragraph will cover the Chapters crusade strength fleet and the string of fortresses they help maintain. This may be changed to a side bar just about their main battle barge. Final paragraph will cover Toyes itself, a forested medieval world, and the Fortress monastery with its vast rows of sarcophagus containing all the comatose members of the Chapter. Thats it for tonight. I will outline the rest tomorrow when I get home from world. For now I am sticking with Aces first colour scheme mostly, just reversed so its not the Raptors scheme. I am also looking for a name. Either a badass one word name (I hope) or a adjective noun name which would most likely be the something wardens or some such... Any suggestions would be sweet. TDF
I think Toyes is a pretty rubbish name for a planet. Could you change it to Toyesh, or something? Anything to stop it sounding exactly the same as 'toys'. Brother Argent
Well toyes was just an idea. It's named after a French region that is heavily forested. Note that I am using lots of bastardised French names in the ia. Brother Argent
Okay so moving along now: Organisation: I am thinking going briefly over how they are codex but with fewer apothecaries due to their distrust, a mention of the more involved duties of the Chaplains as they work to balance those marines whom have sent a little time in the Chaos infused dream state. Then maybe a touch on the even greater struggle for librarians as they are closer still to the warp then normal. Finally a quick mention of larger scout company (to make up for the instabilities later on) and how many scouts don't make it to Battle Brother. Combat Doctrines: This one is still a bit iffy. Obviously I am going to have to cover their preference for Thunderhawk over drop pod, and I am thinking this will be more to do with the attempt to minimize possible casualties. Then I am thinking a paragraph on the close work between them and their watch dog sister order. Finally a mention of their natural Fisty siege skill and stubborness complimented by their defence of the Gallican Rift. There will be a side bar here explaining the sacrifice of the Chapters dreadnoughts because of the semi permanent dream state they are in means they are alive and semi in the daemon world at all times. Beliefs: I am thinking an almost Egyptian or Norse belief here of what you are buried with is how you are in the next life, probably due to the whole waking nightmares and time in daemon world. Due to this marines are buried in ceremonial battle gear etc. Then I will briefly go on to mention how a belief of the homeworld is that when one is closely bound to an animal then when you die that animal carries part of your soul. Because of this many marines keep cyber enhanced animals to act as an anchor to the materium for their whole cross over nightmare thing. Geneseed: Cover how they are born of Fist seed and then cover how badly mutated some of the geneseed became under Abel. This will continue on to underline the full nature of the Curse of Abel, how the marines are prone to sudden comas when badly injured etc. And then how when they sleep or are in this coma how they enter a state that although at first was believed simply a horrific nightmare (and this is what new recruits are told it is) they now realize that they are instead being transported, or at least their psyche or soul is, to a daemon world in the Immaterium. Cover with how the chapters distrust of Apothecaries combined with the growing cases of the curse and the growing number needed t tend those who suffer how the chapter is slowly starting to decline. Battlecry: .. something snappy.... So thats it... Ideas are up for change and the name Toyes looks like its going (didn't really like it anyway). I have decided to reach deep into my 40k past and try to bring out an authentic seeming kinda grim dark chapter. A chapter that spends its entire life living in the shadows of waking nightmares knowing that, in the end, they will eventually succumb to an eternity stuck in the warp, or death. But through all this they stay defiant in true fist style. All I need now is a name and I will be moving the IA into a post of its own to start some serious work and leaving the Path thread for updates on the Path itself. So... thoughts? Brother-Sergeant Bohemond
I like where this is going. One question about the Daemon world I have: so when they go there do they fight? And, presuming yes, do the wounds translate to their bodies and do they band together to fight? Brother Argent
I am thinking yes they do fight and yes they band together when they can. As far as wounds go while I would like to say yes I think I like the idea of vast halls of sleeping marines and marines who do wale telling of fighting alongside brother someonerather who had been in a coma for 1000 years. This wouldn't happen if they died. Maybe is like groundhog day. They die only to wake again the next day in an eternal cycle. After all it is only part of their mind which goes there. Messor
That could be really interesting tack for them. The idea that they might never know whether or not they're really awake or really alive after a certain point. Sounds like the kind of thing that could break even a marine. I feel like the challenge will be focusing the article: Addressing their current state/MO/operations vs. an extremely impactful flaw that deserves in depth exploration vs. the founding history or that involving Abel. Brother Argent
Meh, who needs focus. Just need to make a really really long article Although in all seriousness the full focus of this article will be the Marines and their Flaw and how they deal with it now. The Full story on their early history will be available through the Index Sororitas: The Order of the Burned Saint/Martyr/Shroud which I shall begin development on alongside these guys. Abel's full story and current history will be available through Index Traitoris: The Dark Covenant also to be worked on along side these guys... Brother Argent
Awesome. Maybe I can sell it to pay some of the ever mounting debts... Oh, you mean creative gold? Thats good too :P After writing that earlier idea I have an image in my head of maybe one of the short stories I can write. A marine wakes up on the daemon world, no idea where he is. Only memory is getting hit in an artillery barrage. Meets up with some brothers. Gets stuck in against evil gribblies and goes down fighting. Wakes up and has no idea where he is. Goes and maybe meets some other brothers. Gets nagging feeling of familiarity. Enter gribblies of an evil nature and goes down fighting. Wakes up next day, no idea where he is... rinse and repeat for a few times. Next day wakes up in chapters Apothecarion. No idea where he is et al. Wonders how long he was out, gets told a couple of hundred years... elohimalpha
As far as names go, "Dragur" is an Old Nordic(?) word for "ghost" or "apparition" and may be an origin for the word "dream". Plus it sounds kind of awesome. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278463-silver-phoenixs-path-of-penance/page/3/#findComment-3455799 Share on other sites
Malthe
'Dragur' also reminds me of someone who once took an arrow to the knee... But if it doesn't rattle your suspension of disbelief, go right ahead :) Maybe is like groundhog day. They die only to wake again the next day in an eternal cycle. After all it is only part of their mind which goes there. Love this! Brother Cambrius
A couple of other ideas for names relating to the dreams could be: "Hiinlev" - A mutation of hunllef, Welsh for nightmare. "Cysk" (pronounced kysk) - again a mutation of Cysgu, menaing sleeping in Welsh Cambrius Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/278463-silver-phoenixs-path-of-penance/page/3/#findComment-3456263 Share on other sites
Brother Argent
So just a quick little update so you dont all think I have vanished even further into the DDDoL (Just being dealing with a HUGE heap of RL stuff, as per the norm) I am thinking for a name what do you guys think of "Interdictors" Oh and the colour scheme has changed because... well I fail at yellow. Most recent version is either or this: I am thinking option A as it just looks more... fisty... The Grey areas are in metallic of course, as will be the chapter icon of an iron gauntlet/fist sometimes (as in on banners etc) show super imposed over a crenelated tower. I figured as purple is my favourite colour and it has the added benefit of looking a little Soul Drinker ish but not. Oh and the shoulder trims are to show the Company marking, ie The Fifth Company in the pics shown. So, thoughts?
