I am still undecided about how or if to single a champion out. Number of vows? Total points? Difference in starting point?

Quality of painting? (Here I'm on very thin ice...)

I'll make a bloody (lol) awesome badge for our forum champion.  After ingesting the blood of our father and staring at the sun with eyes closed I received a vision from our Primarch... a 100x100 pixel red square... So blood.  So angel.  I then, upon mighty pinions, proceeded to falcon kick our traitorous kin in the genitals.  Now I'm trying to figure out why my armor is black...

I'd say number of vows makes sense. Points are tricky, for example i'm pumping a lot of points with a low model count by making special characters, is unfair. Quality is kind of subjective, what about voting in the champion?

Say, all the participants get to cast their preference, Might be harder to track, i know, but i think would be fair.

So, I have actually been doing something for this challenge since signing up!

More pictures in my WIP thread if you care to look. Obviously still WIP, a couple more than others, but I'm getting there.

As for determining a champion I think a vote is probably the fairest way to do it., if a little more labour intensive.

Keep up the good work everyone!

That's....... actually a good idea.

I like to talk rubbish and paint miniatures, it would be a Charlie Sheen's level winning.

Speaking of painting:

Here's the new vow's stuff. If i can tell it myself, Tycho is going to be a pretty awesome model, assuming i don't make a mess spattering paint all over it.

Dante is a lot simpler, i figure at his age he'd look at wings, scrolls and general bling and shrug it off with a "i'm too old for this ****".

Anyway, on with the show!

Does everything have to be competitive? Can't we just agree to sit around, build and paint some dudesmen and then talk rubbish to each other during and afterwards?

I'm not racing this year.:) The last two years saw me having 90% painted. Some might now be where I was then. To me then it was icing on the cake. :)

As for extra rewards. I postpone my decision about if, how many and why. Thanks for your input.

Good progress guys. Looking good!

I'm wanting to learn to do good highlight/detail work but for now out of fear of ruining them, I've done everything on my level of skill so far! Nothing near what I've seen posted by my Brethren here, but here is my completed Vow group of a Rhino, Astorath, and 5 Sternguard! (Apologies, not a great camera size so I had to scrunch! :P )

I, MadGreek, of the proud succesors the Blood Bulls, vow on the honour of the Primarch Sanguinius and of the Ninth Legion to paint and present Captain Straton of the 5th Company before the 30th of November. I will present pictures of my progress in this forum.  I vow to bear the CARCERES IRA badge in my signature, should I fail to complete my pledge. May Sanguinius guide my paint brush.

@ Kanis. Congratulations on your successfully completed vow. We're here to improve, learn and enjoy.:tu:

@ Xmercx. That sure is a nice piece of work!

@ MadGreek. Good initiative. There's no doubt that he's a captain. He's hit the Tycho pose dead on!:)

Right now it doesn't look like your Tycho conversion will get ahead.

They are frickin' wicked! Thanks heaps for the link!

I think my problem now is that I don't want to use them too often as that would dilute the awesomeness of them...

I use these Greek helmets from Anvil Industry for everyday Marines, and these special ones for "Characters" and elites.  Keeps them from being too common.  By the way, checked out some of your links - good looking stuff you got there.

Another one down!

Still no improvement when it comes to power weapons, but i'm training on some spare bits, i'll get back on it.

Not sure if this batch will wrap it up or not, sternguard and chapter upgrades finally touched down, my BT army needs some love as well now, they get angry really fast:woot:

Still over a month to go though, i'll probably have time to vow something more before it ends

Congratulations on completing your third vow. Looking really nice. :)

Never ignore an angry Templar! We'll be here until December but I know that you'll be tempted beyond resistance long before. And of course will encourage your red brethren in their quest for Salvation.

I ended up with a black wash on the Mephiston red to get it dark enough.

Second vow will be declared later today. :)

I always like to see well painted old school models, since i've started late i own none of them, gotta live through others :laugh.: .

There's only one thing i don't understand: why are neophytes alone in that picture? They shouldn't be allowed to fight without Initiates supervision, right?

I,Taranis, proud son of the IX legion hereby vow to complete and present a Captain of the proud Lamenters before the 1st of December. I vow to bear the CARCERES IRA badge in my signature, should I fail to complete my pledge. May Sanguinius guide my paint brush.
