Thank you all so much for the lovely comments. Makes me beam with pride. Really appreciate it.

These bases are from dragon forge design. Jeff makes them (owner of company). I love his bases. They are excellent casts and really make my models shine. They are easy to work with and help weigh down the models.

These particular bases are from the lost empire series.

Decided to work on master of the forge first (after the bases).  Took me awhile to figure out what scheme I wanted to do for him.  I decided to follow my standard hq style shoulder pads (right red/gold, left black with red edging), but also edge all his armor plates red with orange highlights.  What a task that is.  This is a super early shot, pre wash, not even done the first layers on him.  Thought I'd throw up a true "in progress" shot.  My models always look awful in the beginning :).

Thanks!  Ya I didn't want to paint him red like the standard mechanicus.  I figured the templars would have "convinced him" to take the black.  But I still wanted to showcase those armor plates, and not just have the standard grey/white highlights.  I think its coming out nice...but man is it hard to get the brush angles on him.  I'm glad I magnetized him, cause I think I would have given up otherwise.  So many layers of detail.

Slowly working away. I'm spending an enormous amount of time on the MotF, as he is one of the HQ's I use most often.

Still haven't decided whether to snip the bolter off (and put another plasma pistol, or second power axe). So I haven't worked on that bolter yet.Have to tackle the harness yet as well. But he's definitely coming along nicely!

(There will be a cross painted/transferred on the one shoulder eventually)

Wow that red edging looks really great. I have the same model(which I rediscovered the other day, can anyone say ETL vow? ;) ) and was trying to decide whether to paint him all red or mostly black. I may have to steal that idea from you whistlingW.gif

Wow that took a long time. I give you, my master of the forge!

And my favorite pose.

I swapped out his bolter for a plasma pistol. And since the whole model is magnetized, had some fun with it. I'm really happy with him. He looks fantastic. Of course I started noticing as I paint more and more, the older models are looking a bit...weak by comparison. Oh well, more painting to do!

Bonus tabletop pose (a not zoomed in look)

Thanks! I really like how he came out.  I would have liked to do the helmeted head, but there was only one choice (it was cast as a single piece, and I'm wary to chop his off).  I liked how his skin came out though, considering I tend to be awful at such things.

I'm working on the sniper neophytes now, and still trying to figure out how I want to paint them.  I want them to have traditional templar shoulders, as the standard setup for my crusade goes...

Neophytes = White/cream shoulders/black crosses no trim.

Crusaders = Black shoulders, red trim, red crosses

Sergeants = Red shoulders, black trim, black crosses (red helms)

HQ's= right shoulder red with gold trim, left shoulder black with gold trim.

I started doing them in a camo grey dry brushing on the cloaks...but it's a bit too good, and they are nearly impossible to see on the buildings.  I decided to try dry brushing some red back into them, to see if can pull some of the armies red to make them sublty stand out.  Any thoughts?  (not spending as many hours on these guys, so bit more drybrushing/wash, and slight details, vs the techmarine which was non stop detailing)

Hrm...they look off with white/cream shoulders.  Since none of the rest of the army has those.  I'll try just red shoulders with no trim.

Test model. I think I like the cloak and the red shoulder. Not too keen on the pants. Maybe a dark brown pant with black straps? Or maybe I need to just stick with a darker grey.

Another part of vow 1 done! Sniper squad complete. Still not happy about the eyes. No matter what I do, they look bad. But I'm happy with pretty much everything else. I spent too much time on these. My version on tabletop quality seems to be "paint until it looks right".

I'm still not sure about standalone squads of BT neophytes, especially with the (awesome) sniper rifles. But yours do look amazing. One 'fun' remark: in the first photo, they all seem to be looking in the same direction, like posing for the group shot. It kind of made me chuckle. But seriously, great job. And your photos are inspiriting as always.

I find them to be enormously effective in gameplay. Generally you'll see a lot of people take trash troops for rear objective holding. They'll hold them in reserve (cultists for example), and they don't really contribute to the game.

Our sniper scouts can sit on an objective, and provide a large field of fire to harass and annoy. The precision shot nature of the rifles mean you can snipe out enemy characters (I took out a teleporting cryptek one game), so they tend to either try to take them out, or stay out of their line of sight. They are also very hard to kill, with a 3+ cover save in ruins (or 2+ if your techmarine improved it!)

Basically they are a troop choice, that can actually contribute hunkered down in the backfield, while the main force pushes forwward. (vs having a throw away choice) I always figure my neophytes haven't earned the right to take the black yet, and join the actual battle.

Vow 1 progressing...wow I did a big first vow.  I am trying a new method on the vehicles now.  I primed them black, then did light coats of grey from 45 degree angles above the model to add some subtle shading.  I then washed the model with a dark wash to give surface imperfections.

It really changed how the black looked.

Here is the stalker with just that method, and a first pass of codex grey edge highlighting.

Honda,

It's both.  I just swap the top part (you don't even need to magnetize them).  It's a really nice kit.  I actually play with the hunter currently, as I use it to pen those av 13 skimmers that annoy me so much.  I basically pick which one I use based on the type of opponents I think I'll be facing.  Eldar/DE? Stalker.  Necron? Hunter.

The sucky thing about all that highlighting...now I have to go back with the lighter layer and bring it out even more.  Ha...my hands.

That highlighting looks amazing to me.

Can't ever imagine how I'd be able to do something like that.

Honda: As far as the Stalker vs Hunter, the Stalker tends to have superior math-hammer results against most targets. However with the potential changes to the vehicle damage table, the AP2 might be worth more.
