greggles
Thanks! Here's a nice further progress shot. All that is left to do is line all the edges with a double grey highlight, and clean up the over paints. Super happy with how his helm looks. Proper grimmy! http://i.imgur.com/TCEnXTR.jpg P.S. I'm super bitter about the mold line on the gun. I totally sanded and smoothed it, and somehow its still there.... greggles
All done! Doesn't look much different then before...just subtle cleanup and some line highlights. Two more HQ's to go! http://i.imgur.com/XexEnzr.jpg http://i.imgur.com/GhatMzA.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uc0PHWu.jpg This particular chaplain had another scroll that attaches to his left rear side. I couldn't ever get it to look right. I'll probably throw some grenades back there at a later date to fill the gap. Golf33
Very nice work as always. I love the blue glow on his back! You have the nicest terrain, too. Very envious. greggles
Thanks! Working on our Lord Marshall now. What an absolutely ridiculous and absurd model. This is the base coat stage. I've spent more time base coating him then I spend doing most models! http://i.imgur.com/noRGi0P.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Hb38bzL.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280857-greggles-crusade-vow-complete-our-high-marshall-73014/page/9/#findComment-3757477 Share on other sites
HLVW
If it makes you feel any better brother, I wanted to throw mine repeatedly against a wall while I was painting it. Marshal Mattias
I made the mistake of painting Helbrecht as my first model for my 'return' to painting, somewhere in the region of 8-10 years later :/ I found it frustratingly challenging. I think it took me over a week just to clean the dang resin! He is a very complex model with a lot of small details that are quite awkward to paint. So, I guess what I'm saying is... Good luck? Although judging from your quality of work, you won't need anything so witch-y as 'luck!' Firepower
Yeah, I'm not exactly looking forward to doing my own Helbrecht Ludoldus model. Very awkward, that sword is a nightmare and just begging to break (mine already did once), and he leans so far forward! I'm annoyed just painting Grimaldus right now, and he's a breeze by comparison. Anyway, seems you're off to a good start, but I'm surprised to see you basecoat bone and parchment in green Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280857-greggles-crusade-vow-complete-our-high-marshall-73014/page/9/#findComment-3757578 Share on other sites
greggles
Ha, glad to see I'm not the only one that tears his hair out over this model! Some of those parchments go under and through so many sections...and then purity seals on top? UG! Firepower: I base coat with zandri dust. I think its just the particular auto tone I used on the photos in this instance that made it a bit more green then normal. I need to dress up a bit more on the coats. Then i usually hit up the edges with screaming skull, then wash with devlan mud...then screaming skull again, and a bit of white. I think this time I'll probably use sepia on the purity seals, to help them stand out a bit from the tabard. Honda
It is good that your ZEAL is coming to the fore. greggles
The Templar turned towards the inquisitor. "And what would you have us do with these witches?" The inquisitor cracked a grin and spun around, pointing directly at the heretics. Burn them. Burn them all. http://i.imgur.com/w2GRvhV.jpg More shots http://i.imgur.com/soyAIgM.jpg http://i.imgur.com/8TIWSTG.jpg I'm both happy, and extremely depressed at how this model came out. Happy because this is one of the best jobs I've ever done with leather and mixed armor/cloth types. Depressed because I was not able to use my full skill towards this model. As I worked on the later stages, the paint started to fleck off. The more I worked the model, the more paint came off. It got to the point where I was trying to use imperial primer and continuously repainting sections. I eventually decided the only true way to resolve this issue would be to completely strip the model, primer, seal the model, then start completely from scratch. I decided for the benefits of being able to finish my vows, I would complete him to the best of my ability currently, and strip him down to nothing on a later date. As such he's slightly messier then I'd like, and also is missing some layers of highlight on some parts. Why did this happen? I have no idea. I had no such problem with the terminator chaplain (also a metal model). I can only figure that maybe I primed this model with a different batch of primer (he's been primed for almost a year), that just didn't hold well on the model...or I had grease on him prior to priming. Who knows. Either way, happy and depressing at the same time. I still think he looks completely awesome. Golf33
That is a nice model. Particularly good job on the leather clothing. When you repaint him, can I suggest putting just a little more white into the plasma coils, and highlighting his face (above the bandanna) just a little more so it doesn't get lost under the brim of the hat? The way you have it here is much more realistic, but if it was a little lighter it would be easier to read the model. greggles
Thanks! I will do just that Goff. It will be a while before I repaint him. I'm quite bitter at the paint flaking off, so will probably not attempt it for quite a few months. I do agree on the face and the plasma coils. The face is so difficult to even see due to the rim of the hat (single cast), so it's pretty hard to get a brush up in there. Need better brushes! And ya I lost heart when I was doing the coils...as I put the purple on, a huge chunk of paint came off his hat...:( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280857-greggles-crusade-vow-complete-our-high-marshall-73014/page/9/#findComment-3759996 Share on other sites
Golf33
That would be horribly depressing. I gather it's the primer flaking off the metal? Maybe try an industrial etch primer for the next version. I don't usually get primer flaking, but I do struggle with paint rubbing off sharp edges as I handle models during painting, and that's annoying enough! greggles
It's definitely the primer flaking off. I'm guessing it's because the model was handled (and not washed), prior to priming. I'm guessing I must of played him back in the day without a coat of primer, getting grease over the edges and limbs, then primed him later not thinking about it. End result, primer didn't stick to greasy sections, layers of paint and primer flake off exposing metal. No way to fix really without striping down to bare metal, washing the heck outta him, repriming, sealing, then repainting. So my thought is, I just wait until I'm more confident with my skills (always a benefit of practice over time), then repaint him to a higher standard :). In the meantime, coming up to the end of my final character, and the end of my vow! Brother Christopher
Great job! I had some catching-up to do after my "absence" and I see that you progressed. And what progress that is! Don't worry about the paint coming off. These kind of issues, depressing as they are, are implied in the hobby.
