The Eternal Host - Khorne Daemons and squishy human allies

"The Daemon is hard to kill but easy to bend. Humanity must seek to enslave the Daemon - not destroy it. This is the truth." -Unknown Author

Welcome to this madness! My mission statement for this blog is simple: I want to catalogue the progress I make on my Khorne Daemon army, the Eternal Host. I will be setting weekly goals - and will hopefully even reach them!

To kick it off, let's start with what I have completed over the past few months.

First, the Arch Heretic himself - the daemonancer Victor Heckt (counts as Chaos Sorcerer with a particular penchant for Biomancy).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v23/cheex/khorne/daemons/CYMERA_20131014_213829_zps40481b24.jpg

Heckt has been spotted dozens of times in the past two centuries across the Imperium, and is thought to be the architect of hundreds of daemonic invasions during that time. His longevity and almost-daemonic appearance suggests the extent of his corruption, however nothing further is known about him.

Two warbands of cultists - The Brothers (top) and The Abominates (bottom).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v23/cheex/khorne/daemons/CYMERA_20131014_213933_zps08ab2713.jpg

The Brothers consist of all kinds of outcasts and are led by a handful of former Imperial Guardsmen. At the head is a former Imperial Guard sergeant, whose path to damnation was sealed after he killed the commissar attached to his platoon.

The Abominates are a group of mutants whose social hierarchy is determined by the number and nature of their 'blessings'. The big guy at the front is their leader - not much of a thinker, but few choose to disobey him!

Khul-Skar - Herald of Khorne:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v23/cheex/khorne/daemons/CYMERA_20131014_221842_zpsedfe92ce.jpg

Bloodletters - Ghyra ('Green'), Shyi ('Purple') and Chamo ('Yellow'). Only half of the yellow squad is painted.

Each of my Bloodletter squads will be painted with a different accent colour - this will make each unit immediately distinguishable on the battlefield, which helps when each unit has models from so many different editions!

That's all that I have painted so far, though the basing still needs to be done. All comments are welcome.

Goal for week starting October 14:

Complete four more members of squad Chamo (yellow).

Thanks Biohazard. I have no idea where the head is from - I found it in my bitz box for my IG and can't remember where I got it! The sculpt isn't that good, though. The eyes were huge and flat, which makes him look a little odd, but it works well enough.

Anyway, time to look at the tasks ahead! If you've been listening to the Independent Characters podcast over the past couple of months, you would have heard about the idea of using a Kanban board to organise your WIP collection. For those who haven't, a Kanban board is basically a series of lists on one physical or digital board that show you at a glance what stage a protect is in.

Here's my current Kanban board, as of October 15.

Plenty of pics to come for these WIP projects, so stay tuned!

Thanks everyone smile.png

I love that herald. That's a chaos lord tabard, right? Is the belt made of chain?

That's right! It's a plastic Bloodletter with the Chaos Lord tabard connected by chain, horns from a CSM Champion, a Bloodcrusher's sword arm, and a bony crest on his head from another Bloodletter's spinal crest.

Anyway, I haven't been able to paint much over the past week, so I thought I might snap some pictures of my (mostly) completed Heldrake - all that's left to do is finish up the base, which I should be able to complete tonight. Apologies for the poor pics!

The pose was inspired by the hundreds of hours I've spent playing Skyrim msn-wink.gif

Ka-KAW!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v23/cheex/khorne/daemons/CYMERA_20131020_193758_zps8b6c2751.jpg

The converted pose left him with a huge, gaping hole in his chest. While this was mostly fixed with some putty, the result wasn't as smooth as I had wanted, so I covered it up with a WHFB Chaos Champion's shield!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v23/cheex/khorne/daemons/CYMERA_20131020_193908_zps22b7ea54.jpg

I also lost his left leg during construction and had to improvise, using some tentacles from a Chaos Spawn. The leg was found shortly afterwards, but I liked the end result smile.png

I have a thing for putting eyeballs on my possessed vehicles. They're just creepy!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v23/cheex/khorne/daemons/CYMERA_20131020_194107_zps3af39e71.jpg

Added a tail, to make him look more like a dragon and less like a pterodactyl. It is made of a FW Blood Slaughterer weapon and connected by guitar wire.

Edit: fixed pictures, they look a little more like the real thing now. I really need a better lighting setup. If you viewed the thread before you saw this message, you may need to refresh to see the better images.

All thoughts, ideas and criticisms welcome!

  • 1 month later...

A busy and stressful work schedule has kept me from keeping this thread updated, but rest assured that I have not been (completely) idle!

First up, yellow squad, Chamo, is now complete:

I finally finished up one of my Bloodthirsters, an old school model affectionately known as "Little Red":

And lastly, my task for this past week has been to finish my first batch of 8 Flesh Hounds:

Thanks for looking!

Great looking army but...would the sorcerer not get shredded as the first sacrifice to the god of blood and slaughter who has a known hatred of cowardly sorcery?

But I mean it. The army looks great (I just can't help being a git sometimes).

Looking great. Too much chaos around the forums nowadays though. I am inclined to turn on the Emperor ;)

But the Heretics and Renegades already turned on the Emperor ;)

The way I see it, Khorne and his followers/daemons hate sorcery, but in reality they are almost necessary for a daemon to reliably manifest a physical body. Heckt is a Daemonancer, so he is devoted to doing exactly this (for his own gain, of course), so his Biomancy powers represent him simply enhancing the daemons' presence in reality, and various pacts with daemons of different gods secures his safety. Once a Daemonic invasion is well on its way, he just disappears back into the shadows to prey on another Imperial world.

In all, I'm trying to avoid an overly two-dimensional Khorne force :)

You see, the only daemons attracted to a sorcery style summoning are Tzeentch really. Nurgle though extreme sickness and disease being spread. Slaanesh through excessive hedonism and over indulgent acts. And lastly Khorne...summoned through butchery and violence enough to run a planet with blood. Sacrificing a sorcerer is a sure fire way to get Khornes attention though.

I disagree. Daemons are able to enter real space through a Warp rift; it doesn't matter how that rift is made. Khorne daemons are attracted to bloodshed, but that doesn't mean that a sorcerer can only summon Tzeentch daemons.

This isn't a new idea, either; even Slaves to Darkness makes it clear that psykers attract daemons in general, not just of a specific type. The 2nd edition codex gives bonuses to summoning Tzeentch daemons when psychic powers are used, but nothing (as far as I can remember - it's been a long time since I've read it) limits it to this. Likewise, Khorne daemons are attracted to slaughter, but nothing stops them from entering a warp rift created by magic.

All daemons are born of psychic energy. Khorne may dislike the use of psychic powers as a weapon, but the truth is that even his own warriors are made of psychic energy. The Daemonancer is there to weaken the boundaries of real space and to funnel more warp energy into the daemons' physical forms, which is represented by his use of the Biomancy powers. He himself avoids being slaughtered after the summoning by way of his own guile.

I've put a lot of thought into this :)

I'm with Cheexsta on this one. Deamons of any kind can be summoned by magic. Usually, warp rifts are created with rituals and stuff like that, but a powerful psyker should at least in theory have no trouble making a warp rift on his own, as well as summoning whatever deamons that are drawn to the rift.

Also, update on the new big gribbly:

In case you hadn't guessed, I'm making another Bloodthirster! The pose is vaguely inspired by the Bloodthirster in the pic below:

Still a ways to go!

Cheers Excessus!

Some more updates on the Bloodthirster. I have done some major repositioning of his right arm and have fashioned an axe out of two Daemon Prince axes. His wings have been repositioned and the lower membrane (that normally connects to the Balrog's back) has been trimmed a bit to be more in keeping with the GW Bloodthirster's wings. So much more work to do!

And a scale shot with a regular CSM:

Enjoy :)
