Why isn't there a "love" button instead of a like button. Seriously, he's perfect. Even for this thread, he's something special. I just love how tooled up he looks. And that power pack... just beautiful. From one of the new(er) heavy weapon sets, right?

Cruelty.

It is the sad truth of the Legiones Astartes, a fundamental pillar of our nature. As tools of war, we are meant for battle, weapons meant to maim and murder. Yet we are not the cold algorithm of steel, born into this world with not but fire in our souls. We are born of man, children turned into killers. No matter how far our ascendancy from humanity rises, that core of our nature remains, twisted and honed into the foundation of our minds made for the ferocity of combat.

In Ritual, there is sacrifice, an offering of blood and of spirit. To some, it is seen as freedom when we deliver ourselves body and soul to the Gods and allow the winds of Dhar to flow through us. In melancholy we see our shackles as the slip of bondage, to know ourselves at the most basic and crude level. But it is a sacrifice nonetheless, for what humanity we have is stripped away, torn asunder when there is no use for it, and a man is less than he once was, an animal and a slave to the whims of cruel masters. For those of the Astartes, such truth is no different, that last vestige of morality and conscience slowly peeled from our minds to give way to such habits most pleasing to the Pantheon. To savor the kill, the murder and carnage, to dominate over others for but the simple thrill of that deifying moment.. Such things are come amongst those slaves to the Dark Gods, and duty gives way to cruelty. It is a curse of the Legiones Astartes sworn to the Dark Gods.

No Exceptions.

XVII Legion, Siege of Terra - Day 54

“So that in the nature of man,
we find three principal causes of quarrel:

First, Competition;
Secondly, Dissidence;
Thirdly, Glory.

The first, maketh men invade for Gain;
the second, for Safety;
and the third, for Reputation.

The first use Violence, to make themselves Masters of other men's persons, wives, children and cattle;
the second, to defend them;
the third, for trifles, as a word, a smile, a different opinion, and any other sign of undervalue, either direct in their Persons, or by reflexion in their Kindred, their Friends, their Nation, their Profession, or their Name.”

-Leviathan

"The fundamental question of 'Why?' is what brings us here. Why did Horus turn, and how can we prevent another cataclysm of such proportions? Was it the dark powers that chose him, corrupting his soul from birth? No man who knew him could believe that. Was it hatred? Impossible. For all his arrogance, Horus loved our father and his brothers.

No.

The simplest answer is usually the core of the truth, and I believe that to be the case here. Horus turned on the Imperium because he believed it was the right thing to do, and he had the power to do it."

[Pict Capture DX/7/187-1B-4] 3rd Line Echelon Tactical Legionary. Reference: Up-Armored Mark III (Iron) Helm, non-standard issue hand-axe, Umbra Pattern Bolt Rifle. Extensive carbon scoring, blood spatter, and paint wear indicate pict-capture occurred during Late Siege urban combat (primary cobelligerents IV, IX, and XVI Legiones Astartes)

[Pict Capture DX/7/187-1B-5] 3rd Line Echelon Tactical Squad. The Line Echelons combined Dreadnaught Engines, Assault Infantry, Tactical Infantry, and Specialist Weapon Operators with company level Auxiliary and Skitarii support. Each modular force could hold ground without support from 7th Regiment chapter-level assets, with company Lieutenants (Centurion rank equiv.) in command of independent planning and operational command.

[Pict Capture DX/7/187-1B-6] Late Siege counter-assault traitor held tenaille. IVth Legion Heavy Infantry Defendingb(14th Dragoon, see appended data files). Pictured: VIIth Legion, Reichsguard Imperial Auxilia Shock Regiments, Gryphonne Tech-Guard. The 7th Regiment integrated allied Mechanicum and Auxilia units directly into Marshal Rohr's Chain of Command. These mortal and Mechanicum forces were vitally important to maintaining the operational capacity of the 7th Regiment. [Detailed analysis to follow]

[Pict Capture DX/7/187-1B-7] Late Siege defensive action against XVI Legion Reaver Assault Company. The 7th Regiment found itself opposed by a Sons of Horus Breaching Battalion under the command of Ariminius Mindaugon and the Iron Warriors Grand Company of Warsmith Phelan Mahdra in the Late Siege. Low ammunition meant these engagements were often reduced to brutal hand to hand combat. Pictured: Two of the rapidly indoctrinated Terran born recruits equipped with newer Mark IV (Maximus) armor. Note: The 7th Regiment's assigned armorium assets produced up-armored versions of the Mark IV (Maximus) armor in the years prior to the siege.

Damn it, of all the days I could have run out of likes...

Noctis, lovely work on your Terminator. Very inspiring. I'll be filing that away for later reference.

Lovely work too, Marshal.I particularly like the vexillary: everyone should have more Aquilifers in their armies. ;)

Beautiful stuff, Marshal. I like the true-scaling you've done, and the shot with the human (and transhuman) forces surging forward is wonderfully evocative. I particularly like the two Marines who have the fists and lightning bolts on their chests. Lots of inspiration.

Thanks, Mol! The goal is to use the bitz available to separate the veterans of the Regiment from the time before Rohr's exile. There are only 5 (one of which is reserved for Unification Vets, so thats out), so I'm exploring options how to make them unique from one another. Eventually I'll be doing a series of 'glamour shots' like the one you mentioned and compiling the fluff/photos into a PDF, but right now my hobby money goes to finishing the models (should have BoP soon). After the echelon's are filled out I'll move onto Regimental Command and Terrain.

It's from the Custodes sprite, though I'm trying to look around through my bits to see if I can find a similar one from my Grey Knight terminators. I kinda want to keep the Custodes hand if I can.... I'm going to need it for my next big project... *cough*

Thanks for the info, I just opened my Prospero box to check it out. Looks like I'll be making a mold of open hands this weekend.
