Really nice tutorial series and a great red on the finished model. Be prepared to be stolen from :pirate:

Especially the airbrushed "ink" you use for blacklining will be investigated properly. Should be a real timesaver if I get it to work as well as you do.

Luther your miniatures are nothing short of sublime!!!!!  If I had the time and more importantly the talent that you do I would love to paint like that.  I don't really know what is better your paint scheme or the customization they show.  GREAT WORK!!!

Thanks for the comments guys!

I also re-photographed my Stormraven when taking pictures of the tactical marine, as I now have a lightbox it actually fits in!

Do you feel that the red-brown primer you use contributes that much to the final effect?  I use the same primer for my Flesh Tearers and am questioning its use.

It seems that your pre-shading covers most of the primer anyway, so I'm wondering what it'd be like with a dark gray primer?  I find that I don't get the kind of pop I want with my FTs because their base color is very, very close to the primer itself.  You have some really nice transitions, but I wonder how much you think the primer color contributes to that vs. your pre-shading or using a yellow base.

I do find the primer affects the colour, although a grey primer should work well for red. The main thing affecting the colour here is the dark blue pre-shading (noticeably different to black which I used to use) and the yellow (makes a huge difference vs white).

You're right the pre-shading / highlighting covers most of the model on infantry, but on larger areas such as the Stormraven wings it will make a difference.

Vallejo also do a 'pure red' primer now which you might want to try.

Ok not Blood Angels but I painted these as a commission for fellow frater and good friend of mine, Indefragable. First time airbrushing white power armour but I'm pretty pleased with them – hope you like them too!

Thanks Bannon!

If I'm making bases myself I use cork dust and sometimes bits from the GW 40k basing kit or watch parts, but I often use resin bases because a) I'm lazy and b) they just look better. Jubal is on one such, from Dragon Forge - highly recommended!

I'm the frater that Luther made the above White Scars for. I just picked them up from the post office this morning, and I have to say, they look even better in person. Top-notch quality I can attest to enough. Luther is a true artist.

Bit of a bromance story actually, since he and I met on here and got into a bit of a pen-pal friendship that has now led to the above models. Again, I can't attest to how good they look in person.

If anything looks off:

Hidden Content

For any critiques, I have to step up and say that the actual modelling (other than the bases) were done by me, so the robes, the spear, etc... are my fault for looking off. My skills with conversion are limited to creative kitbashing. So the robes, for example, come from a DA Ravenwing squad. If I knew how to use green stuff (beyond getting it all over myself), then perhaps that would look better. The spear is from the BA Librarian Dreadnought kit. It was originally meant to be The Glaive of Vengeance (S+3/2 AP2/3), so it's deliberately over-sized to represent a possible S8 AP2-at Initiative 5 weapon.....that gets to re-roll To Hit and To Wound against HQ's. It was part of my inspiration for picking up White Scars (Scarblade Decurion) in the first place, the idea of finding the biggest, baddest, meanest enemy HQ out there and hunting him down (Hunting Force) and making sure s/he does not get back up.

The shield is supposed to be The Shield Eternal and thus, again, is deliberately over-sized. Since you can't take two Relics on a single character "anymore," the hugh-jazz spear now serves as a "counts-as" Thunder Hammer since crunch-wise The Shield Eternal makes more sense (T5 4W, 5+ FNP from Apoth, 2+/3++ Eternal Warrior, Adamantium Will).

Again, I can not thank Luther enough for his awesome work. There were so many elements that could have been off, but he pulled it together amazingly, including the tiny details like the writing on the scroll work and the custom symbol on the banner.

Amazing work!

And also led to my receiving a goldmine of sage tactical advice!

Thanks Indy, glad they arrived safe and that you like them :smile.:

@ Midnight Runner, thanks man! The spear head is the end of the Force Halbard from the Blood Angels Dreadnought kit. The scale of it is quite divisive, but the way I see it if you can't go over the top in 40k then where can you?!
