Hello all! First up, this is my first post here in a good few years. Secondly I apologise for the immediate lack of pictures. Over the past couple of months I've been slowly getting back into the hobby, having started a small Marines Exemplar army. However that's been derailed after seeing some of the brilliant 30K and Horus Heresy era armies that people like Brother Heinrich and Brother Chaplain Kage have been building.

The plan at the moment is to build a Heresy era White Scars army that could be fighting in the battle for Terra; so urban basing, lots of Mk IV and Mk V power armour and White Scars detailing like trophies, furs and horse-tails.

I'll be using the FW models as a base and am waiting for them to arrive this week which'll be when I start posting pictures.

Me either, BCK. Depending upon the scale and posing of the FW models I might have a play with their legs; the thighs on Marines definitely seem to be a bit on the skinny and short side.

Me either, BCK. Depending upon the scale and posing of the FW models I might have a play with their legs; the thighs on Marines definitely seem to be a bit on the skinny and short side. 

 

The FW marines are a bit smaller than the GW ones, and the MK II and IV legs are very spindly, so be prepared for that.

 

Honored to inspire and excited to see this begin! White Scars are one of those special few armies that you see only rarely, especially in 30k, so I can't wait to see your spin on them.

Ooh! I'll be keeping an eye on this; the V Legion were my first choice for a Heresy army, but learning that they won't be done until late 2016 at the earliest somewhat put a dampener on that. Hopefully this will be able to inspire me back to it.

Oh my Gawd, Sweet! I cannot wait to see this man. I love the White Scars but.......I have no desire to build a "biker" army. but I absolutely love a well painted white army. Maybe I should restart my Star Phantoms.......naw, heathons would kick me in the nuts, or make me do push ups or something for over stretching myself, yet again.

 

anyhoo, we need some WS goodness, very soon.

 

any chance of a test mini, please, I'll give you the internet!

I've yet to pick up the Black Library Novels or the FW rules, but the images below are what I'm drawing on.

That was a bit of a downer for me too Phoros (initially I was planning on a battle of Calth Word Bearers force), but as FW won't be doing V Legion mini's any time soon I decided I'd have a crack at doing some that were in keeping with the aesthetic that they've created for Heresy-Era Astartes. :-)

I plan on painting and posting a few test mini's in the coming weeks, Furioso-Prime. I want the white to have a warmer feel to it than the GW 40k White Scars so I'll be having a play while I try and get my hand back in with painting. :-P

EDIT:

I'm also trying to decide on what I want to do bikes-wise; at the moment I'm thinking of Bullock pattern jetbikes using the Grand Master Sammael Corvex one as a base. However at £30 a pop I'd probably make up a master that I could use to convert regular SM attack bikes. huh.png

My Forge World order and other bitz have arrived today so I've begun playing with GS and thinking about what I want to do.

Especially the sabre is fantastic. Maybe you spotted those already, but I would use some of  the plastic heads from the Chaos Marauder Rider kit: http://www.bitzbox.co.uk/index.php/warriors-chaos-marauder-horsemen-c-22_38_248

Are you making those swords from scratch? Any chance of a quick how-to? Or at least the parts?

 

Apart from the hand and pommel yes, I'm making them from scratch. If I'm free this weekend then I'll try and post up a tutorial for you, geektom.

Halifax, I don't think the trophy rack is over the top or too much at all- the white scars, thematically, had a habit of taking trophies of decapitated heads. I think it works.

 

I must ask though, where are the body/legs from?

Sorry Chaplain, I should've been clearer in my post; I was wondering if it was too much in terms of it's size as it's quite tall in comparison to the body.

 

The body and legs are from the FW Destroyer squad.

Sculpting with GS is a lot harder than I remember. :-P I'm trying to thicken up the weedy thighs a little and will be filling the space where the left-hand pouch was with some trophies. I think I'll have to shell out for some Brown Stuff for the larger flat surfaces like armour.

Impressive work brother - that scimitar is absolutely lovely. And that trophy pole, though a tad tall, is pretty neat, too.
