Are you making those swords from scratch? Any chance of a quick how-to? Or at least the parts?

 

Apart from the hand and pommel yes, I'm making them from scratch. If I'm free this weekend then I'll try and post up a tutorial for you, geektom.

Thank you very much everybody, I'll definitely be putting together a tutorial this weekend. Please excuse the poor quality of the photos; I'm limited to my phones camera at the moment. In other news I've only made a little progress as I went climbing tonight.

I've tried to make the forearm look a little more like the MK IV ones and I've had a go at the Legion symbol; I'm not sure if I'm happy though so I may keep playing with it. What do you think?

I sculpted a few icons myself, and that stupid lighting bolt is a lot harder to get right than I ever thought it would be.

Don't even get me started on Icons.......STILL trying to get the DG right so I can make some press molds (gotta trim $$ somewhere)

Brother Arcturus, I'll be trying that with smaller skulls and heads for future mini's.

 

Ha! I'll have you know, Furioso, that the V legion is going to be equipped with the latest in off-roading tricycle technology!

 

BCK and Furioso, what are you using tool and putt- wise for your mini's?

 

At the moment all I have is GS and the GW tool, I'm looking for better alternatives. I've heard good things about silicon tools.

I pretty much swear by clayshapers. Occasionally I'll use a metal tool, but easily 95% of all my sculpting is done with the regular sized clayshapers, not the miniature size. I usually use greenstuff, but tried some brownstuff for one of them.

I'd recommend soft-headed silicon clay-shapers, brother. Compared to the bog-standard GW tool, they are fabulous. You'll get much smoother finishes almost immediately.

It was a late night but keep an eye out for updates brothers, things I have to do today include: 

 

Make and share a tutorial for Power-Scimitars.

Progress my possible V Legion Praetor.

Begin paint tests.

Once the GS has cured a bit more, I'll post up the Praetor's progress; I really think that he's starting to come along now. While I've not been able to get a hold of Silicon tipped sculpting tools yet, I stripped the work that I'd done on his legs and started again this morning. I think he looks much better.yes.gif

Also, sculpting tiny moustaches and PA details onto Marauder heads is hard! ermm.gif

The underside of the fur on the shoulder needs some smoothing and I may re-do the fur on top of the shoulder pad; I'm not exactly happy with it. ermm.gif

I'm undecided on whether or not the chest circle will have either a 'V' on it or a lightning bolt, thoughts, Brothers?

A better angle that shows the pointed Mongol style boot detailing and scalp at his waist.

Loving the work so far, the Fifth are my favourite legion.  The dynamic pose is great, and the little touches you're adding are tippy-top.  

 

Where did you get the blade for the sabre, by the by?
