Purge the Alien! - Ordo Xenos Task Force "Interdiction"

The Acid Dog

Recommended Posts

Welcome, all!

The FLGW I go to is running a Hobby Challenge: A legal 2000pt list fully painted in 4 months.

Since I'm more of a friendly gamer/thematic player I got a little silly with my list, and it will consist of a primary detachment of Imperial Guard, an Inquisition detachment, and allied Space Marines in the form of the Deathwatch!  Some of you may have noticed my recruitment thread in the Angels of Death forum, and some of you even volunteered your favorite chapters. I set that thread up because I'll be painting the Deathwatch detachment in the first month.

The Deathwatch will consist of a Sternguard Squad and a Tactical Squad, both in drop pods, with a cheap librarian for the HQ.

Check them out, let me know what you think, and, if you volunteered, check out the result!

Day 1 (First Post 12/18/2013)

Brother-Librarian Arndt, of the Death Strike

Brother Adolphus, of the Exorcists (and next to him, you can see Librarian Arndt's freehand chapter symbol)

Brother Ardias, of the Death Eagles

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/Brother-SergeantCastorCombo_zps0437d53b.jpg

Brother-Sergeant Castor, of the Imperial Fists 3rd Company (With a sweet freehand chapter symbol!)  Note grenade on his base, and the utter disdain he has for what could be a live explosive at his feet.

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/BrotherVassagoCombo_zpse68ffd02.jpg

And my first completed volunteer: Brother Vassago of the Consecrators!  Special thanks to Infornography for the name and the chapter! Pay no heed to the not-so-well-painted chapter symbol.

Please excuse the terrible lighting and the ugliness of the models.  I promise they look much better in person!

Thanks for the compliments, everyone! Quick update.

Just so there's no confusion about this being a work in progress, here's what they all look like as of today:

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/TheCrowdresize_zps254e2961.jpg

You may note that there is one missing (there are supposed to be twenty). That's because Brother Aum's shoulder broke off, and I lost the stupid thing! He's down for repairs until I can get another.

I rolled dice on who to paint next, and the Dice Gods decree:

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/12-19ScheduledWork_zpsb3cff7a6.jpg

The Brothers of the Sons of Orar and and Iron Knights are up next! I'll post up pictures just as soon as they're finished (probably within the next 24 hours)

EDIT: Update time!

Introducing...

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/BrotherParminiasCombo_zps9a18c13a.jpg

Brother Parminias, of the Sons of Orar. Special thanks to Olisredan for volunteering! I think I did pretty well on the Orar symbol, all things considered.

And next...

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/BrotherSinonAzixCombo_zpsf0728e74.jpg

Brother Sinon Azix, of the Iron Knights. Thanks go to malorn24 for this one! At first I thought his "gardbrace" was a bit big for him, but then I got attached to the idea of it providing extra protection as he advanced toward the enemy. Sounds like something a Son of Dorn would do. tongue.png I left his chapter shoulder as a Tactical squad symbol, because Iron Knights do that.

Now thats what I'm talking about. Great work! I add the "gardbrace" to my veterans for right now. Don't have enough for my entire company yet. I also like that you added the sword. Because we all know a Son of Dorn never leaves home with out one!. I am also a fan of the name on the bolter. Great work!!!!

Sorry for the "slow" pace of updates. I went on a bit of a hobby bender, and then had a hobby party today, where I hobbied some more! I apologize for the low quality of the pics. I am not a photographer, and the camera isn't very good either. Brace yourself, I have lots to show off.

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/FireHawkCombo_zps51710208.jpg

First up is Brother Borusa of the Fire Hawks. He likes burnin stuff.

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/BrotherZashenCombo_zps5f78f392.jpg

Next up is Brother Za'shen of the Salamanders. He also likes settin stuff on fire.

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/BrotherSandalioCombo_zps91252e76.jpg

Next is Brother Sandalio, of the Blood Swords. I didn't do particularly well on the chapter symbol (blah), but the corroded, twisted armor plate on his base sure is great!

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/BrotherAlsanTakarCombo_zps6219312b.jpg

This is Brother Al'san Takar, of the Celestial Lions. If it would have been at all possible to pose an empty magazine halfway fallen to the ground while his hand is halfway to the reload, I'd have done it in a second.

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/AuroraCombo_zps5fe088f8.jpg

Here is Brother Gracchus of the Aurora Chapter. He likes checking his auspex. I'm particularly proud of his freehand symbol. I did it in one go.

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/BrotherOptioGnaeusCombo_zps8a5108e5.jpg

And last, but certainly not least, Optio Gnaeus of Cormac Airt's War Consuls! Look as he guides the fire of his brothers. Surely he is destined for a leadership position.

Just 7 more brothers and two drop pods to finish and I'm all set for my 500 point goal for this month! I think I'm gonna make it. thumbsup.gif

Nice, I love what you did with the pose. A great hint towards his future. ;)

Since you asked me in the message to comment on the symbol, I like it! The X kinda looks like a star, but I think that is just the sheen adding extra white. Nonetheless, it is exactly what I pictured it to be.

Looks awesome, Brazentooth, and thanks again for accepting the War Consuls' oaths. Can't wait for the counts-as Tigurius!

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

Veteran Sergeant, I might just want to use one of your Invectors, once I expand the army. Let me know if that's alright.

Update time! Took a break for a couple days for Xmas (pronounced and celebrated Futurama style), and now I'm back at it. I got some better lighting down here, finally, so no more of my phone cam's flash drowning out the colors and making everything look crappy!

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/BrotherAgricolaCombo_zps80a77b29.jpg

First up is Brother Agricola, of the Omega Marines. The shoulder pad of an Omega Marine is usually black, but I decided to make it representative of the overall color scheme rather than just leaving it (solid black would look kind of boring). Looks like some pretty good freehand, eh? Well, it's not! I pulled some transfer shenanigans and pretty much just "painted inside the lines."

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/BrotherLukaCombo_zps50c7a8ce.jpg

Next up is Brother Luka, of the Flesh Tearers. I haven't gotten his symbol on yet. I'm waiting for a transfer, since I love it so much I don't want to risk making a sub-par freehand of it. Like I said in the "Today in the hobby..." thread, I might have gotten a little carried away with the blood. Or maybe he got carried away with his chainsword. His face is cut up from an opponent that managed to claw his eye out, but it's very much a "You should see the other guy" kind of situation. laugh.png

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/BrotherFafnrFirebeardCombo_zps7b959a5b.jpg

This is Brother Fafnr Firebeard, of the Space Wolves. I'm also waiting on a transfer for him, as he'll be from Erik Morkai's Great Company. He's currently a very, very close second in the "personal favorite" competition, and will serve as my Wolf Lord in my eventual Space Wolf army.

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/BrotherAlrechCombo_zps210044cd.jpg

And my favoritest brother of the Deathwatch: Brother Alrech, of the Sons of Medusa. I had a ton of fun converting him and even more fun painting him. I wanted to get a very pasty flesh tone, as I've always pictured the Sons of Ferrus as having very pale skin. The eye went very well too, and I think it captures the determination and cold fury of the Iron Hands and their successors (might be difficult to see at this angle).

That's all for now. Just three Marines left to go! It had been a long time since I'd painted when I first started this army. I think I can see the old skills coming back. msn-wink.gif

You're more than welcome to. I think it's awesome. 40K, to me, is a community property. I wouldn't share any of my work here if I was worried about it being "mine".

If you want to be most "accurate" to the fluff I created, he'll be all Mk VII parts and I use Romanized conventions for names since they're of traditionalist Ultramarines stock (and I like Roman history), but like I've told others who have asked, it's your model, and your Marine, so do what you want with him.

Update time!  Going to do some painting later, but as I was about my business today I got bit by a different kind of hobby bug.  Here's today's work thusfar:

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p764/Bobcat_Bill/EpistolaryPubliusKadriasWIP_zpscac45d91.jpg

Introducing Epistolary Publius Kadrias of the War Consuls, seconded to service in the Deathwatch and acting Master of the Librarius in Watch Fortress Adab.  He'll be my counts-as Tigurius.  Still some gaps and lines to clean up and some bitz to put on him to make him more librarian-y, but I'm very pleased with the pose as he raises his badge of office and shouts his defiance.  Hope you like it!

With it raised at an angle rather than pointed in the direction if his gaze, it looks like a defensive posture. His gun held back like he knows only the power of his will can see him through the day. Like a man yelling his defiance into the storm as he leans into it, determined to pass through.

Pretty. Freaking. Cool. But I might be biased. :p
