BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!
SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!

The Bloodthirster is finished! What an awesome model to paint - I didn't use an airbrush, except for the first basecoat of Khorne Red. It was doubly cool because I actually painted this same miniature when I was about 19 years old - and back then I remember looking up to the task, seeing it as something daunting. Today, with improved techniques, online tutorials, and this supportive community, it was a breeze. I also love to have done some drybrushing again - somehow, with an airbrush, I don't use that technique quite so often anymore. Anyway, here goes. Meet my Bloodthirster, named after my favourite Khornate frater:

Ka'Ru-át'Syaan'Tiss-tür

Bloodthirster of the Eightfold Path, Servant of Khorne

known on countless worlds as

The Slayer of Colgarus IV, The Mauling Doom, The Equiry of Blood

EDIT: almost forgot: a big thanks to KrautScientist for pointing me to the painting recipe of Khorne Daemon skin. Thanks buddy -I hope you get his name

Hope you like! BFTBG!

I'm off to race my bike in the sun. :smile.:

@ BCK: I was as well. Sarcasm doesn't translate well in the written word, does it? You totally should - but also play games, because you can only know what you want if you participate in your meta, no?

@ sockwithaticket: Cheers! I'm glad that came across :smile.:

@ Race Bannon: Don't you think it's a little on the nose giving that attitude to a Khornate post with your Slaaneshi-numbered comment? :p ;)

@ Biohazard: Thanks buddy! Have a great day at work :)

@ Race Bannon: whoah, looks like I caused a rollercoaster of emotions, there - I forgive your previous transgression, as you are a confused man. Seriously now - to answer your original question - the carry case actually can be far smaller than the one for the new plastic BT - he's almost half his size. :D :tu:

That being said, I noticed that the metal Bloodthirster head is almost the exact same size as the head for the new plastic Bloodthirster:
http://oi35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/temporary_zps1zxazwkw.jpg

So I started rummaging through my Khornate bitsbox, and found the giant axe for the Insensate Rage Thirster that was left over from my copy of the plastic kit:
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/temporary_zpscfxh4e3k.jpg

And I think I could pull it off to create another Bloodthrister using the metal OOP guy:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/World%20Eaters/temporary_zpsczlrkf7s.jpg

So I ordered another metal Bloodthrister off eBay for GBP26 including shipping. I'll see what I can come up with. I'm thinking the main problem with this will be the smallish legs - which in combination with the massive Insensate Rage arms will probably make the resulting miniature look like a daemon that has skipped leg day a million times. I could perhaps remedy this with a set of carnifex legs - but all in good time. For now, I think I have a cool idea running, which I'll be happy to elaborate on once I have the metal miniature in my possession. Which will be June 8th the soonest, according to eBay... :biggrin.:

Thats a great job on the old BT. I've always been in two minds about it as a figure thanks largely to the shonky angle of the Axe combined with the nostalgic awe >f it's original release. Seeing it alongside the plastic parts though has very intresting possibilities and I'm seriously considering using mine as a base for a DP since the size makes more sense to me.

@ Mechanist: Yeah I ca fully relate to that thought. I'm more and more sure that this will work. Plus, I have bought Guilliman from a bits site, and am thinking of using the metal BT arms for him, swapping out the metal axe for the remaining plastic Axe from the Plastyic BT, and giving him an etra pair of BT wings that I have also purchased...

@ guardian31: Haha have you ever looked at a gorilla's hind legs? Those are at least as big and strong as his front paws!

LoL

My buddy Maarten, who is also a frater on B&C, asked me if I would make him a space marine for his loyalist Sons of Horus command squad, in exchange for an unpainted rhino. Of course I obliged, because that's a win-win for me :) The only restrictions were that the dude needed to have a Power Axe. So after a good hour of rummaging through my bits boxes, I came up with this guy:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Hobby/WP_20170527_015%202_zps4md4jpdg.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Hobby/WP_20170527_016%200%202_zpsm3e0fm4b.jpg

I am sure I have a full set of Reaver helmets stashed somewhere, but for the life of me I couldn't find them tonight. So I stuck on a cool bald head. His power axe is frmo the Vanguard kit. I also gace him a single Purity Seal as an Oath of Moment and an Eagle Backpack, to emphasize where his loyalties lie.

A little birdy also told me that I would be getting my hands on Maarten's custom made Mk15 Land Raider track conversion set. Time for me to order a MkIIB Land Raider!!!

W00p W00p!

Hope you like the conversion. Let me know if you think he needs something else, or have any other ideas regading this guy :)

Cheers!

Looking really nice but he just doesn't seem to say Sons of Horus to me. Perhaps it's because you've been giving us all these fantastic Fists so I'm wanting to see a bit of yellow on this guy...

Buddy, that vintage Bloodthirster turned out amazing! Your paintjob really proves that there's some life left in that ancient sculpt! Fantastic work! I also had to laugh out loud when the penny dropped regarding the name -- this means I've been immortalised no less than four times across three of your armies, right? Seems like I owe you two named characters, then ;) Although, in all fairness, you should probably have named the Bloodthirster after Duncan Rhodes, seeing how it was his recipe to begin with :)

I am also looking forward to the conversion using a metal Bloodthirster body and plastic Bloodthirster bits. While challenging, the project should give you the chance to get rid of the vintage Bloodthirster's most problematic part -- the giant hands ;)

Oh, and that SoH is looking sweet as well! :)

Thanks, everyone! Replies to your comments below.

I know you guys want me to paint that chaplain - and you can be sure that I will soon. But it is warm and not the best temperature to paint right now. So I did some frolicking with left-over bits I had - among which was the body of the Reclusiam Chaplain (the head of which I used in the coveted chaplain, above). His Crozius unfortunately was lost during the trade in which I acquired him. I realized I had made several Jump Pack toting characters lately, but not a Captain kind of dude. So the reclusiam chaplain body is going to be the basis of a jump pack captain. I decided to give him an axe - because it seems like that's going to be among the best power weapons in 8th.

Mind you, this is still very much Work In Progress: the head is just a stand in. I think I'm going for the bearded sternguard bare head, which will arrive in the next couple of weeks. For his right arm, I'll probably be going for an outstretched arm, aiming a bolt pistol in the distance. What do you think?

Cheers!

Replies:

@ Pearson73: Haha sadly I will not be painting the SoH dude...

@ Checkmate: It might be indeed, and I agree to a certain extent. His paint scheme will make up for it, I suspect, like you said. :)

@ dantay_xv: I think the pouch is from the SM Scouts kit, but I might be mistaken. I have a bag labled "pouches etc", chock-full of those kinds of gubbins, so the origin is sometimes lost in time.

@ malcharion: You should visit more often! ;) The chaplain will be done soon! I promise!

@ KrautScinetist: Haha, the name should be read out loud to fully get the gist, methinks. :) I trust your word for the number of times I've named a dude in my army after you. What can I say? You're just a bi inspiration. Speaking of which, I still haven't build the Night Lords apothecary, which if I recall correctly is the first guy I named after you. Also, Duncan is way too nice to have a Bloodthrister namd after him. Not that you're not nice, but at least you have a Khornate army. :tu: The BT conversion will be challenging for sure, ut I cannot wait to start it. THough at this rate, I'm falling behind quite a bit in terms of built-but-unpainted models.

@ guardian31: Yeah gorilla's do not skip leg day. Like, at all! I guess his proportions will be ore along the lines of the maulerfiend - which is actually a source kit I might use to replace the legs.... :D

Please tell me he is holding severed heads by locks of hair in his other hand and not a pistol.

@ Knight of the Raven: Cheers! It's a bit of a weird sculpt, indeed. The main thin is the way he is holding his Crozius - very, very upright. The axe in my interpretation remedies that somewhat, hopefully. The difference betwee MkII and MKV jump packs is twofold: MkII has 2 and MkV has 1 power coil on the back (not visible here) and MkV has an additional armour plate on the side of the rotors, whereas MkII does not. :)

@ hushrong: He won't! Actually he is now holding a - wait for it - plasma pistol!!

The jump pack Captain is coming along nicely, mate! Quite an improvement over the somewhat awkward base model!

If I can make one suggestion, how about replacing the somewhat bland standard plasma pistol with its counterpart from the plastic CSM sprue: I personally really love the latter's clunky design, and it looks so massive and heavy that you could imagine it being used as an impromptu CC weapon to hit somebody on the head. I think it would really match the model's bulk and its role as an assault specialist.

Haha, KrautScientist beat me to the punch about the plastic aspiring champion's amazing plasma pistol. The loyalist counterpart just looks so... banal in comparison to me.

Thanks for the info on the jump packs. It was the uparmored rotor that made me notice there was a difference to begin with, but I'd still need to check Forge World's assault marines to remember which is which.
