I really love how your Librarius Conclave is coming along, buddy! The models are full of individual charm and character, which I think was a great thing about those old metal Librarians, and you are definitely capturing that look with your collection of psykers there.

That being said, I don't get the choice of a pointy hand on the latest WIP model. Like, at all. It seems incredibly distracting and, erm... pointless, if you'll excuse the pun, but I suppose you must have had a reason for choosing it. Care to enlighten me?

Still nothing but praise for your librarians!

The are the most striking and brutal bookworms I have seen in a long time!

As for the pointy finger, did he do a finger gun pose at a heretic, shot lightning from his finger tips, and now it is cooling off as smoke rises from the tip? Silly idea but I would do it if I had warp powers.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. The pointy finger arose from an apparent lack of left-handed clenched fists in my bits box. I thought I could pass as a magical gesture of some sort, but your comments convinced me it wasn't working. So I rummaged around in other bits stashes - and lo and behold I found what I initially thought I didn't have anymore.

So here's the improved version with a clenched fist, and something to decorate is backpack. Take a look:

Much better, don't you think? Let me know!

Thanks again for the feedback, uveron and KrautScientist. :tu: :)

I'm loving these old school librarians from you Auggie, the paint work and kitbashing is on point (as usual)

They keep sending me off to eBay to track one down for myself! But I've quit metal miniatures, they are too difficult to manage. Really happy to see them from you though :)

My name is Augustus and I am an addict. Seriously, I have no idea what is happening to me. But I cannot stop building librarians. Eight edition is around the corner, so I pretty much have stopped painting units that I actually intent to use - as the meta will definitely shift and I want to equip units competitively. But about 18 months ago, I suddenly had an urge to collect librarians. So I set out to collect all power armoured librarians that have been released. With my recent purchase of the last metal force stave wielding libby, I have largely succeeded in this endeavor, albeit through the help of several recasters.

So after finishing the build of the metal one, above, yesterday I started to bring all the different miniatures I had together.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/60010199006_DVLibrarian360_zpswqwv09mx.jpg

And started chopping them up. I used the parts of these three libbies, with the added caveat that I have an original plastic and a recast version of the current plastic librarian, and only had the arms of the red scorpions Servin Loth libby.

So after several hours of work, including some work today, here's four new librarians, in various states of WIP:

This one uses the (recast) body, head and right shoulder pad of the current plastic libby, the left and right arms of the Dark Vengeance librarian, with a MkIII right shoulder pad and a recast MkIII jump pack.

This one uses the plastic body of the current libby, as well as the recast backpack of that same miniature, the right arm and shoulder of the OOP stave libby, with the (recast) stave top of the current plastic librarian, the left (casting) arm of Sevrin Loth, a MkVII left shoulder pad, and a Grey Knights head.

For this one, I used the recast body of the OOP stave librarian, the plastic stave of the current plastic librarian, and some MkIII shoulder pads.

And finally, this is the DV librarian body with the Dark Angel iconography sanded away, the (recast) stave arms and lower part of the stave of the current plastic librarian miniature, the halberd head of a Grey Knight, and some MkIII shoulder parts.

What do you think? I'm very excited by these, so I'd love to hear your thoughts. :smile.:

THanks!

Replies;
@ Brother Jim: Thanks, mate. Ebay as tons of the metal libbies. You shouldn't really have a problem getting one for yourself. :smile.: Metal miniatures are not a problem if you use only the core parts and add modern plastics and pin the arms.

@ Viarocanum: I'll start work on him asap!

Plenty of witchkin for Khorne to claim. Saying that I do love that jump pack guy. :tu:

They all look awesome though and once you've worked your magic with the paint they'll definitely be a brilliant looking unit. Are they all going to be for your Fists?

Thanks for the comments, guys :)

@ deathspectersgt7: :D

@ Pearson73: Thanks! I'm going for variety. :)

@ Vairocanum: Really? It's my least fave. I'm thinking of giving him a very grimdark background. If you want to name him, you're welcome to it!

@ Sagentus: I am, aren't I? It's developing to be a bit of an obsession, to be honest. But I just love librarians suddenly. Khorne must want my head right now.

@ Biohazard: Indeed! Luckily the 4000 points of KDK I painted last year cut me some slack with Khorne ;) I'm afraid they will be all for my fists - as I don't have a non-Chaotic space marine army...

So, about the Dark Angel dude's chest: if you had to teach someone about how to carve it up to not be so Dark Angel-y, what would you say?

It'd tell them to buy a cheap dremel tool with a roundy bit, plus a Stanley knife, and to start carefully dremeling and scraping. That's how I did it. :smile.:

No dude, you don't. You can totally pull it off. It's just plastic plus some basic tools and skills. Learn to handle a dremel tool and scraping with a stanley knife. Practice a couple times on some piece of sprue or an old miniature. With a bit of practice, you'll find that you get an intrinsic understanding of how much pressure you need and how plastic responds to the tools. Soon you'll have the confidence to pull it off. It's not difficult if you apply yourself and have patience. :)

Fair enough.  I'll have one chance to pull it off

Yet again, your dedication, creativity and work has inspired other people :tu:

Hmm.  I could butcher the chest then glue on a brass piece with the Chapter sigil!  Sorry, enough threadjack, I should post on my own plog ...

I just like librarians that focus on wielding their weapons instead of actively shooting out psychic powers. I think I prefer librarians that are augmenting their original abilities through being lightning or flame clad (so sort of like a passive skill). I'd like to name him Ingolf Geirr, looking forward to reading the background for all the librarians!

So after making those four librarians, I had a very interesting and appealing bit left: the left hand that's holding the book. Also, I realized I didn't have any force axe wielders on foot. Yet. Because then I realized: "wait a minute, I'm currently working on a force axe wielder - which also doesn't have a set left hand! So this guy was born:

Even better than the clenched hand, don't you think? :D

Replies!

@ Race Bannon: dude, you couldn't give me a better compliment. Thanks you! And good luck with the scraping and dremeling. :) Also: would you like to name any of the librarians?

@ Vairocanum: Ingolf Geirr will be the next one on the painting list, then! He's been added to the record!

Wow love all the Librarians your churning out. The conversions on the other page are all great, and good to see those old metal models getting some attention.

I've never been a fan of magic/psychic users holding an open book outwards, never really made sense to me, but that's just me being picky.

Cheers, Hydra! I guess he's showing the book to let you know "I'm right, see? It's written right here!" ;)

Anyway, I finished the fifth librarian :)

Codicier - Conam Kron ~ 'the Cleric'

A devout student of the Imperial Faith, Codicier Kron has been known to pray to the Emperor, to ask Him to forgive the souls of fallen heretics he has just assisted in delivering His justice. For this purpose, he always brings a large, leatherbound copy of the Lectitio Divinatus. His strict code has gotten him at odds with the Chapter's Chief Librarian, who frowns upon his dual studies, and often forces him to make up for lost time in the CHapter's Librarius. It is this devotion and strict adherence to scripture that has earned Codicier Kron the moniker of 'Cleric'. Although he does not respond to the moniker when addressed as such, secretly Codicier Kron takes pride in it, for he sees it as a confirmation of his true path.

And here he is with his four brothers from the Chapter's Librarius.

Work has begun on Codicier Ingolf Geirr, named by Vairocanum. At first, this was my least favourite of the four libbies I converted. But Vairocanum giving him a name, and this cascaded into my thinking about his character - which I always base on how he looks. in other words, inspiration struck, and today will be the day Geirr will get painted.

But first, a bike ride in the beautiful Amsterdam weather, to get a cup of coffee with a friend :biggrin.:

Hope you like!

@ angel robertson: Thanks, buddy. I posted a guide on how to increase your hobby speed here, since you asked. :)

@ Vairocanum: They do survive the test of time, don't they? Still looking cool, despite their smaller size.

@  Mechanist: A whole chapter? Don't exaggerate! In the end it will only be ten librarians. ;)
