Man that chaplain is awesome! really like how although its painted different you know its still an imperial fist.

how did you go about painting it? (got some ideas for my 'tales of a hobbyist' khorne meets BL lol)

With regards the the other chaplain, i think the bold head makes him look more crazy/zealous. Just an idea but maybe try to paint a tattoo on his head maybe?

Thanks guys! The pictures weren't really to my satisfaction, though. I realized it was way too sunny and the quality gave a blueish teint to them. So I took new pictures of the same chaplain and am much more satisfied now:

Chaplain - Johac Valezin - The Psycho

The youngest of fifth company's three Chaplains, Chaplain Valezin is known for his rigorous, stoic and logical mind. He always keeps his word: he always does what he says he will do, even if doing so is to his personal detriment. His demeanor has led to acts of bravery some would call insane or foolhardy, and he has led charges against incredible odds and survived. Among his feats are single-handedly retrieving a unit of downed and captured Stormtalon pilots from an Ork Waagh encampment, and killing the Waagh's enormous leader, Warboss Muzgob, in the process. These feats have earned him much respect among the brothers of fifth company, who regard him with awe and fear. His leadership through example have inspired many battle brothers in harsh campaigns, and for his age, Chaplain Valezin has earmed a surprising amount of accolades.

I hope you, like me, like these more than the previous pics.

Cheers!

@ Vairocanum: Thanks buddy! I felt like I was a bit out of touch, as this was seriously the first miniature I had painted in over two weeks.

@ Eldrick Shadowblade: Thanks, mate! That is sweet of you to say ;)

@ Sagentus: Cheers, but I am curious: How is it painted differently than any other Imperial Fists chaplain? Isn't black with a left pauldron in the Chapter's colours the standard? Also, the other miniature yuo're referring to isn't a chaplain, it's going to be a captain :) But a tattoo is a possibility!

@ Sister Alessia: Thank you! The fluff is inspired by the namer ;)

@ The Observer: Hahaha thanks! You should definitely try to convert him - it's an amazing plastic miniature.

@ malcharion: Thank you! Your charcharodons are inspired!

@ Psyckic_scribe: Cheers, buddy! Glad you like him! :)

Running the picture through Photoshop's auto-color then through auto-tone* gave a result pretty similar to the final product, for what it's worth.

Lovely chaplain, and I like his fluff (especially his original description as having a 'can-do attitude'). I especially like the dark red of his bolt pistol and again, I love the jump pack.

Chaplain looks great, I do really like that Cassius model as a base.

I've recently taken a bit of inspiration from your classic Librarians as well and been scouring eBay for some of the classic OOP WE Champions. Planning to paint a squad of them soon. I also scored the classic Jugger Champ. :)

The chaplin Looks ace and a great addition. As for the studs if you use the fine point of a sewing needle and superglue it should give you some fine control on the size, I'm on holiday at the moment so don't have anything to hand to test but worth a practice on some spare sprue.

I meant it as in sometimes you see chaplains painted and they could be for any old chapter or you have to look closely to be able to tell. Where as yours you know which legion he is with and the iconography is not overpowering :)

Ah didnt realise it was a captain. I still think the bald head will be best and a tattoo would look awesome!

OH MAN I HELD THE NEW DEATH GUARD PLAGUE MARINES TODAY and they are awesome - less frolicky than I expected, so much more usable as conversion material. Also, the Maxmini biohazard heads would work perfectly among them.

Anyway. Today also saw the arrival of the second metal bloodthirster I ordered two weeks ago. I started the conversion idea I had earlier, but quickly realized that his arms would seriously be way, way too big to look realistic or even good. The axe head of the former D-axe is also too big. So I decided I needed to sculpt his arms from scratch, and cover most of them with DP shoulder pads and chain. Here's what I have so far:

His arms right now are just brass rods, but I'm confident I have the proportions right.

So I'm going to see if I can improve my lackluster muscle sculpting skills this weekend...

Wish me luck! :biggrin.:

@ Knight of the Raven: Ah right! Well I don't have Photoshop and have never worked with it, so what do I know.

@ Biohazard: Aw dude, great idea! I think you bought them all, because after your comment I went to look and found none!

@ Mechanist: I'm going for the bearded old SM head from the sternguard sprue: it has two studs already sculpted on! Also: Chaplin? :tongue.:

@ Bjorn Firewalker: Cheers, buddy! Glad you like him!

@ Thousand Eyes: Ha - they were easily achieved using the surprisingly simple Khorne Skin tutorial Also: Chaplin?

@ Sagentus: Aw, with the beard there will not be any room for tats, unfortunately, but I will save the idea for a later model.

@ kizzdougs: Thanks, mate! Great praise from you.

Ehhh... I'm not sure about this one, brother. Those hands and that axe are simply far too large in comparison to the rest of the figure. The legs in the side shot look like toothpicks against the hands.

@ Brother Chaplain Kage: Ha! I can totally understand your hesitation in this instance. I agree the hands are far too big. But, those hands are the exact same size as those of the original metal Bloodthirster - which I hope will help to retain its retro feel. I do agree the toothpick legs make it look like this guy has skipped leg day a gajillion times, so I might beef out his legs with Green Stuff a bit (outward and to the back, so as not to interfere with the axe or his loin cloth) and replace his hooves with those of the Forgefiend.

@ Race Bannon: Yesss, yeeesssss! Feel your desire, embrace it!

I missed that previous Bloodthirster post with the comparison. Damn. It's kinda funny that you're doing these old Bloodthirsters now because I found an unopened one recently while digging around for my old 40k stuff. Maybe I'll see if I can refurbish mine.

Oooh sounds cool, BCK! I can probably learn a lot from your take on it.

The muscle work on the Bloodthirster has started. It's pretty difficult to get those one. Any advice from viewers is greatly appreciated!

Turns out the hooves from the Maulerfiend kit are the perfect size for the bloodthrister's future thicker legs. :tu:

Also, I think I've found the perfect head for the jump pack captain:

What do you guys think?

Cheers!
