Right! Time for the contemptor in the Call of Chaos vow.

Seeing as the CoC is dedicated to Nurgle this year, I've decided to make this contemptor a part of the Plague Marine detachment in my Night Lords company.

Hence, he can be a little more 'chaosified' -as I like to call it. Here's a list of things I did/plan: He has a crest from the new helbrute kit above his helmet. I'm still working on some burst entrails below his belly, the idea is to make a ring of 'burst' armour around the entrails and to use PVA glue to tie the gore together. Furthermore, I'll use some of the same techniques of nurglification I've used on my two plague rhino's. There's also plasticard trim on his chin armour and around his fist's vambrace. I liked the look of the normal dreadnought's power plant instead of the contemptor one so much that I've decided to use the idea again - this time with one of a relic dreadnought. He's decorated with some Night Lords iconography from the Vampire Counts and Dark Elves range, a trophy from the official FW Night Lords contemptor. and he has added rivets from Zinge Industries - which are insanely awesome to use.

Hope you like so far. Thanks for looking - I appreciate your feedback :D :tu:

Did this Night Lord share pleasantries with the World Eaters before being interned or does he simply often lose his weapons? :tongue.:

He looks good.

Haha perhaps? The intent was to balance the weapons out a little. The normal contemptor weapons have an arm joint which is at a location of the weapon which looks more 'balanced', if you know what I mean. The decimator weapons' joints are located more in the rear part of the weapon, so the chains where meant to aid in balancing the weapon visibly and mechanically.

Absolutely excellent work, mate!

Hmm, actually, it's fun to imagine him having been a bit of a crowd favourite in the fighting pits aboard the Conqueror in his pre-Contemptor life. Maybe this guy is even the reason those planned World Eaters are following your Night Lords around?!

Cool idea! But I'll use it with a future contemptor (which will use the new space wolf frost axe bit). :tu:

Nah, he took the chains from some dead Black Templars
BTW where did you get the chains?

The chains are from a british company called antenotics workshop if I recall correctly. I've bought them years ago, and I've now ran out, so I hope they still exist.

I clicked on the thread because I saw 'Plague Contemptor' I was not disappointed. This is all types of awesome, I really like the larger exhausts you've added on the back. And the wire/intestine blob, that will look so good once painted.

Thanks guys, glad you like him so much.

I just had an awesome idea: to add to the decayed, worn look, I decided that several of the havoc launcher's rockets should have already been launched. In other words, cut the poking-out warheads off and drill holes in their place. And then I had a Eureka moment: I could make a discrete Nurgle symbol using the holes!! :biggrin.:

I'll probably use some PVA to have ooze dripping out of them or something suitable gory. :yucky:

I really like the 'infernal crown' thing going on with the crest. So many extra bits and pieces to notice on this guy, looks very venerable indeed. The plasma-cannon conversion works wonderfully, too. Looks a lot heftier than the regular one.

It's also cool that you keep incorporating marked units into the army that are notably different in appearance, but still obviously Night Lords.

And now for something completely different: a SUPER MACRO PHONE CAMERA LENS LIFE HACK

I've been experimenting with improving my camerawork over the last couple of months, getting a light box (thanks dad) and improving the settings on my phone camera. I can't afford a fancy 'real'  camera, not do I care to invest in one. My camera work is fine for what I want to do here, but something I've always lacked was the ability to create pics that are SUPER up close - in other words, super macro shots. Phone camera's are actually fairly good at taking macro shots, but it's absolutely impossible to get really close to your subject matter.

So I found this turorial on how to paste a LED lens to your phone camera with nothing but putty. I ordered some extremely cheap-o ($2.52) lenses here. They arrived today and within five minutes I created these nice shots with nothing but the lenses, some poster buddy putty, and a basic desk lamp for light. Here's the first shots (It's actually scary for me to show the pics in this post, as my secret of being a lazy-'n-sloppy-as-hell painter will be revealed.... please only pay attention to the quality of the macro shot and not to the sloppy painting :laugh.: )...

Pretty good for a first try no?

Because I can't take pictures of my own camera, I've made a drawing of it and show how it works:

Step one: a regular smart phone with camera lens.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/temporary_zpsb5e47d44.jpg

Step two: blu-tac / poster buddy the cheap-o lens to the phone camera.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/temporary_zpsd724801c.jpg

Step three: take pictures. Make sure your camera is set to automatic focus and NOT to close-up.

Done!

That's it really... Hope you find use for this tutorial.:biggrin.:

Whoa, that is some serious camera voodoo going on there, mate -- very impressive!

On a related note, I just couldn't resist:

son-of-nostramo-01.jpg

Hope you don't mind!

"Mind"????? Dude I love it!!!!! I'm going to make it my avatar!!

Edit: I also love how you named this picture 'son-of-nostramo'  :tu:

Yes, yes, and thrice yes!

Thy will be done.

That is like PUREST awesome!!

Thanks MN! Glad you like it.

Thanks SwaT, high praise from you. The NLs are tough coockies to crack when it comes to cultist marines, so Im glad you appreciate my efforts! :smile.:

Plague Contemptor is gorgeous, although without paint the head region is a little busy for me to figure out what is going on. Can't wait to see it painted so I can fully appreciate it.

Cheers mate - and no worries, there's a lot more work to be done.

Glad you like it! The picture of the Praetor's face just seemed ideal for a bit of messing around, and it was really quick work too. What's that head, by the way? My first guess was the bare head from the Khorne Berzerkers, but the teeth don't fit...

Anyway, he looks like one mean son of Nostramo, doesn't he? ;)

He does indeed - the chaotic, corrupted to the core kind. And he has a face only his mother would love.

The head is fro the 'classic' Chaos lord with Lightning Claws and Jump Pack. :tu:

OK, I finally got to do some painting. Turns out my compressor's taken quite a beating during my moving house - the tank's condensation catcher was leaking AND the pressure switch in the compressor is probably broken. I fixed the leak, but the pressure switch needs to be replaced for sure. Guess I'll have to use the on/off swtich to maintain pressure and prevent it from overheating. Sigh.

But I *did* get some painting done. Here's some pics of my progress on the butcher cannon contemptor.

All bits separately:

The body so far:

The base, feet and legs sans glue:

Up next is a leadbelchter drybrush, the fleshy parts and all the reds and it'll be as good as done! :D

Feedback and criticism always welcome. Thanks for looking!

Those. Contemptors. Are. Awesome.

Short post, but I can't find anything else to say.

Short or long, comments keep me going, so thanks!

Hope you like this too. I've decided I need more boots on the ground, so a couple of units of chosen in Rhino's are up next for the 47th. Here's the first start for a unit of chosen with plasma guns...

That's the intent :D

Finished building another two plasma chosen:

I've really missed building just foot slogging marines - it's been almost a year since I finished the last squad! This to me is the cool thing about space marines and in my mind the entire idea behind this forum, dedicated solely to our power armour wearing heroes :D You can get so caried away by just a normal guy in your army, making him characterful in his own way. Love it!

Great work as always Augustus!    and i couldn't agree more about "power amour wearing heroes" :P

Just finished the last two foot sloggers - the champion of the claw and another plasma gunner.

I like how the champion has turned out - ready to defend his plasma-wielding claw mates with a firm round from his bolt pistol. OK that sounds ridiculous, but I do like his pose. The intent is to do a freehand night lords symbol on his chest, with the skull at the centre.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Night%20Lords%20WIP/temporary_zpsa80763d2.jpg

The last plasmagunner is the most active of the bunch. I decided on a normal marine backpack for him, because of his Imperial Eagle chest plate. But I might change that to a Legion of the Damned pack instead.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Night%20Lords%20WIP/temporary_zpsa7cdc7ac.jpg

And here's the entire claw. Again: I'm so happy to be doing marines again!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Night%20Lords%20WIP/temporary_zps306fe594.jpg

Also, an update on the practical side of the hobby front: I've decided to invest in a totally completely new compressor, one that is compatible with my current air tank. I've eventually deduced that the pressure release valve of my current compressor is broken, and replacing that part would cost about 80% of a new compressor. My end-of-the-year bonus came in and I was like frag it. So FINALLY, soon I'll be able to start seriously painting all the models in my vow!! Yay!

Yeah man, they are a bliss to do. It's been so long and I feel like I'm returning to the base of my army - WAY too many specialist forces and vehicles lately. :biggrin.:

Great models. Those shots are just shockingly clean, too!

Cheers Lexington, I was lucky enough to have a kind enough dad to give me an awesome light box, plus I'm still improving my actual photography skills.

Thanks for looking!
