OK you've officially lost me. The Hyperios has a normal GW Rhino chassis and a slightly different Whirlwind launcher. The major difference is the targeting optics thingy on the top front of the vehicle. What's so special about it?

The Helios launcher that is only available on the FW Land Raider Helios has the same launcher and optics thingy as the Hyperios. Put those on a Rhino Chassis and you have the Hyperios Whirlwind...

What is it about these that makes you so stoked about vis-a-vis the normal Whirlwind? Honest question :biggrin.:

Uh. Look at that. Forge World put up the wrong unpainted pictures. Oh, that's  hilarious.

The actual Hyperios turret is slightly different (though it's hard to see on this picture).

I just don't like's the normal GW turret, though I honestly can't explain why, just likeI can't explain why I prefer the FW razorback turrets. I just like variety (and wasting money too, I guess :P).

Well this was an unexpected surprise, welcome back to the warm embrace of the Imperium. Nicely weathered yellow. The silver looks a bit bright on a couple of them given how battered they look in almost all other aspects.

Cheers, SwaT, you're right and I'll make sure to weather the silver, particularly on the pack exhausts. Some sponging with Rhinox Hide and perhaps even some rust here and there will do it, don't you think?

The last three members of the second squad will be done this week, and I will have finished two of the three tactical squads of the drop pod list, above. To reward myself, I shall paint the Deredeo Dreadnought I bought on a whim a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, being me, I tried to get the maximum movement out of the model. I'm quite happy with it, to be honest, here's some pics:

He's supposed to look like he's shooting some flyer that has appeared from behind, with his launcher. I hope you like it. I do, but unfortunately the pose required quite a stretch from the ammo hoppers. So much stretching, actually, that one broke - despite having soaked in boiling water for about five minutes.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Night%20Lords%20WIP/temporary_zpsxbljdupi.jpg

I tried to repair it with pins and some green stuff, but it cannot be saved. FW couldn't help, unfortunately (which kinda surprised me), as I broke it myself... So now I plan on putting in just bare bullet chains. I thought I still had some good pewter ones, but I cannot find them.

So here's my question: does anyone know of any good online pewter bullet chain sellers, and if so, could you post me a linky? Thanks!

A black and/or thin brown wash might help, the main issue is the brightness, but some sponging is probably worthwhile, too. I don't know that rust would be right, they look beaten up, but not like they've been out in the field long enough for rust to set in and I can't see Imperial Fists not seeing to their armour between battles, thus not letting rust develop.

The Deredo pose definitely works, gives a real sense of shifting focus.

I don't know how well any of these will scale (extra large is probably the most likely), but they're the only ammo belts I know of:

Thanks, SwaT and Dantay for the tips!

I''ll keep those two options in mind for sure. Another option would be the pewter ammo belts by DragonForge:

Or, and I should have probably led with this, as I really like these:

They're 7,65 mm long, perfect for the feed entries of the deredeo's autocannons. I know in that auto-weapon technololgy works with caseless shells, if you follow the fluff, but these just look too good not to at least try, don't you think?

Lemme know!

@Grizzly_bear: Thanks buddy! you know your Scythes have been a huge inspiration for me, right? I mentioned you a few posts back, because I think credit is due to you. :) :tu:

OK I went ahead and ordered the chain linked NATO 7,62mm ammo links. What I didn't realize was that these are even more life-like than I thought: each bullet and each link is a seperate item!!! Check out how awesome this kit is:

I'm really looking forward to building the Deredeo now! I'm also going to drill out some of the missiles in the missile pack, to enhance the feel that the dread's been in the field for a long time. Fluff wise, I can even rationalize the chain links on a futuristic weapon platform. In my mind, the modern looking original ammo feeds are basically belt feeds with an armoured layer over them - and I can imagine that the armour got shot up at one point, leaving the IFs to decide to forego with the armour entirely to prevent further jams. Or whatever. Rool of cool.

@Psychkic_scribe: Cheers buddy! I got the links!

@Otis: Thanks! And yes, rool of cool trumps everything.

@Kurama: Haha glad you're on my side

@Bob Hunk: Cheers! Yes, weathering is such a rewarding thing to do. It's truly awesome. :smile.:

@Chaeron: Haha yes, interim - you mean the dread or the fists entirely? I assume you´re thinking of CoC

@Grizzly_bear: Sure, buddy. Entirely earned and justified to give credit where it is due. Your Scythes are awesome and deserve to be drooled over. :smile.:

That NATO 7.62 is a little expensive, but you're right, it looks awesome. The Rool of Cool is exactly the way you should go :biggrin.:

In fact, all your Fists look pretty awesome so far for a loyalist... suspiciously so...

You best watch it, buddy. Too many more of these guys done to this crazy good standard and I'll have to assume your current Bananamarine work is more than a passing flirtation...

You wouldn't want anyone thinking you're a real loyalist :tongue.:

Says another Night Lord (Lady?) with sons of Dorn. (I'm on a Black Templar spree right now, so I can't really comment.)

Those are some nice yellow marines, and that ammo belt is gonna look amazing on that Deredeo.

Eventually, I think everyone succumbs to the Fist.

Er...

Er...

Go on...

:P

But  yes, that Ammo Belt is going to Look awesome!

Also, any idea on how you'll paint him? More Traditional or a Variant Scheme?

@Teetengee: Yup, numeral will be redone. Red+Green is a trick with the colour wheel. Normally, when you're darkening or lightening a colour, you add black or white, respectively. With red, that doesn't work, as you'll get goop and pink, respectively. So you have to add opposite colours. The opposite of red is green, so when you add dark green to red, you get a deeper, almost aubergine colour. It's quite lovely. Conversely, you can add red to green to get a darker green. I encourage you to experiment with it, because you can learn quite a lot from that alone!

I really have to thank you for this tip. I've been painting for...<oops, can't reach my toes in this sarcophagus> let's just say a long time. I never thought to try this. Awesome!

Your Fists continue to impress me. I was concerned about the "whiteness" in the decals but you seem to have handled the saturation rather admirably. Bravo to you.

Deredo...I wasn't too crazy about this model when it first came out, but it's such a perfect fit for the Fists and I really like your pose and I think the chain linked ammo will not only add a level of detail that will enhance the model, but don't be surprised if the idea...catches on. :)

Play on good sir!

Hey everyone! Work is killing me, but I managed to get one IF finished. I also built another three, minus the heads.

Say hello to brother Brecht, who's in the process of changing a magazine.

Apologies for the bad lighting, I'm having the outside woodwork done, so the whole house is in stockades right now, which blocks all sunlight. So the yellow is kinda dulled out, but I assure you, the yellow hue is exactly the same as the others.

Hope you like! Feedback welcome.

Still waiting for the ammo feeds to arrive. I´m super excited for them, and have planned a whole day of hobby time coming weekend.

Replies!

@The Psycho: Cheers, yeah I found a linky to them on a 2008 post on a german forum somewhere. I searched for 'pewter ammo feeds' on google and it came up on the fourth page or something like that.

@Flint13: lol! Like Psycho said: you're one to talk! I'm just following in your lady-bootsteps with this, substracting I from VIII to get VII. So shut up and go back to your own fists, buddy!

@kizzdougs: I'll work on it as soon as it arrives!

@KBC: Haha probably. It's just that damn banana yellow... it's the best flavour and brown spots look good on it.

@Slipstreams: Variant scheme? Interesting. Any ideas? I mean, it is 40K, but Deredeo's must be relics by then. So I'm very open to suggestions to 30k-ify this baby.

@Honda: It's been that long huh?

Serisouly though: you're most welcome! It doesn't always work, btw, just with red and green hues. Both can be lightened with yellow, btw. I am thankful to you too for pointing out the brightness on the decals and made sure to apply decent layers of Matt Varnish over them before weathering them. Thanks!
