Hey everyone! It's been super long. almost three weeks without an update. Sorry about that, I guess Betrayal at Calth happened. I jumped right on the hype train and didn't get off until the boxes hit the stores. I bought 1,8 sets (I shared one box with a buddy, who got a tac squad and the termie captain). Ermagerd these boxes are awesome. At first I was a little bummed out by the Contemptor, but after seeing KrautScientist's awesome and surprisingly subtle reposing of his Contemptor, I'm sold on that model too. Anyway, I will be posting lots of updates in the coming days, as I actually took a week of from work to hobby one full week. Oh yissss.

So. Lots of plans.

I´ll be using the first box to finish my 1250 list of Imperial Fists; for which I'll be mixing two of the MkIV tactical squads with my recently purchased 40K tactical squad, another set of five 40K devastators, and a lot of bits and gubbins I've collected since starting my Imperial Fists.

The WB chaplain will be the Chaplain in the second Demi Company - bare bones so I'll have te replace his plasma pistol with a bolt pistol. I'll also give him a skull helmet of some sort. I'll be using the second Chaplain's crozius on the Chaplain on bike I recently posted

I've ordered a FW Imperial Fists contemptor, which will be rocking the two assault cannons. I'll probably save one plastic one to convert into something chaotic along the way, and the other might be used for a future 30K heresy army (seeing as I still have over 30 MkIV marines left over after the above) or perhaps as an Imperial Fists one. But seeing as I already have the Deredeo lined up, as well as the IF contemptor, that might be overdoing it on the dreadnought front. Who knows?

In the meantime I have not been idle. I finished the devasator squad with the two lascannons and a fourth (4th!) razorback.

Here's the devastators. As you'll notice the banner isn't fielded by the champion, as his backpack is kinda full with the signum. All my squads need a banner though, so I thought it'd be cool if that honour would fall to a 'regular' marine in the squad. Cool, no?

Also, I've built and finished a fourth razorback. Notice I've used a couple of the Crimson Fists tank pack symbols on it.

And here's a picture of all four boys together. Imagine what eight of them will look like in a couple of months!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpsreub6a6u.jpg

I also repainted the multimelta on the attack bike, and used some autumn leaves and water effects on its base.

Anyway, that's it for now. I'll be posting some WIP marines in a couple of hours. :D In the meantime, thanks for looking.

Replies!

@Brother Heinrich: Thanks buddy! He'll be rocking the new HH chaplain's crozius!

@Aasfresser: HAha steal right away, my friend. :tu:

@Viridia: cheer mate! I'll have him done by the end of the month. Pinky swear.

@kizzdougs: it is isn't it. Perhaps he is a Night Lord. By heart, I mean. ;)

@Mrbear: Nuh uh! I swear it's not so. Not a demon, anyway.

@The Prophet: I take a combination of quaruple espresso stimms with a cold shower, using my airbrush. Seriously.

@Psykic_scribe: Not to worry about the crozius, buddy (although I agreed with your suggestion) the crozius has been replaced by the one of the HH chaplain.

Double post! I've been doing a lot of building today, and decided to finish my second devastator squad.

I painted these two Missile Launcher toting dudes a couple weeks back, and they need squad mates.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpslt7uztor.jpg

So they need some buddies!

Here's the sergeant. Again, no banner, because of the Signum. I got the idea to put some MkII and MkIII elements on one of the devastator legs from someone on this forum (cannot remember where). I love the plumes on the helmets too - probably going to be using a lot of those on the sergeants of future squads too.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/2_zps5xbnicl0.jpg

Then, the banner bearer of the squad. I only took one picture of him, so that's it. :) The fluff behind the banner is that it used to be carried by one of the sword brethren in ages past ie the Great Crusade.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20151115_008_zpsvoxwaukt.jpg

And lastly, a type of marine that is blatantly stolen from the HH: a comms specialist. I'm trying to get all my squads to feature one of these from now on.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/1_zpsynr0pj5u.jpg

I'll try and get these guys done before tomorrow evening - as I want to do at least one more squad before Wednesday and I promised myself never to paint more than three marines at a time.

Oh, and I got the FW Imperial Fists transfer sheet. Damn. that´s some serious bling.

Cheers, MrBear! The second Devastator squad (WIP posted ^^) is now finished. Pics:

Complete squad:

Veteran Sergeant Sander Lev. A veteran of over a hundred of battles, Sergeant Lev has been honoured with a relic MkII helmet and officer´s plume. His staunt resolve has saved his brothers on countless occasions.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpsstwebilz.jpg

Brother Kurt, Vexilarius of Squad Lev. Kurt wears a modified suit MkIV armour with a MkV  helmet, which signifies him as a veteran. The honour marking on the right knee pad of the armour marks it as very old. The squad´s Vexila too is a truly ancient relic in the chapter, and features marks of honuor from thousands of years ago.

I hope you like it. Thanks for watching and feedback, as always, more than welcome. It keeps me going!

Cheers

How did you do the beautifully icky mud?

By mixing Vallejo Dark Earth paste with GW sand. I have a pot that will ast forever. After drilling two holes in a base where the two pins of the feet go, I cut some grooves in the base with a hobby knife (so the paste has something to hold on to), then apply the sand with a spatula. I then ´sculpt´ it with a fairly big, damp, old brush; wet the model´s feet; stick the two pins of the model through the holes, so that the soles of the feet make a slight impression in the paste; remove the model and let the whole thing dry. When it´s dry, I basecoat it with a 1:1 mix of GW Rhinox Hide and Vallejo black primer, drybrush it with GW Rhinox Hide and then with GW Mournfang Brown. :tu:

Cheers everyone, for the feedback. Next up is a squad of tactical marines with a Missile Launcher. The one from the HH:BaC box.

Here's pics of all the marines in different shots.

First up is a standard bolter marine. I just love the combination of the acquila breastplate with the MkIV head. If I'd be playing HH Emperor's Children, all my marines would have this combo.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/5_zpspk8srlcx.jpg

Second, another bolter marine, who is wearing all kinds of armour. I really like to mix and match, taking full advantage of the compatibility of all the armour marks.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/1_zpsv4f3b2ve.jpg

Third, here's the Sergeant. I went full mental on this guy. He has the MkII breacher helmet with plume (gotta love the breacher helmets for their almost Predator-like appearance), laurels all over the place, some pteruges for his loins, and an awesome, awesome back banner. I love this guy.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/2_zpsao9uwqk6.jpg

Fourth, the missile launcher guy. I gave him the 40K devastator legs (all the heavy weapon toting dudes in my 1250 points list will have these legs) and the MkIV helmet with the extra scope/visor like thing on his helmet.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/4_zps0xhfjkcl.jpg

And finally, the second comms specialist. This idea really grew on me and I'm planning on putting one in every squad from now on. If anyone has more Imperial Guard vox casters or Defense Line Vox stations and wants to trade them, please PM me. I need two of these:

The conversion is super simple: just put two of the space marine backpack engine exhausts on the sides of the thing and stick it on the marine's back. :tu:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/3_zpstaoh7wgm.jpg

That's it! I also in a stroke of perfect timing got the FW Imperial Fists contemptor in the mail, so I'll be working on getting the two HH:BaC Kherese Assault Cannons on that thing, and painting it up. Or should I do the Deredeo first?

Thanks for looking and feedback most welcome!

@Flint13: Haha thanks! Creepy flying babies FTW, right?

@Teetengee: Creepy flying babies can be found in this post, on page 60. Trust me, the link is SFW.

@grizzly_bear: You do have a pretty big headstart. Also, since when is this a contest ;)

@Barabbas Sogalon: Haha thanks buddy. I think I'll break my own rule and try to paint five marines in one go, as I've developed a pretty fast method of painting Imperial Fists by now. Turns out, if you satin varnish before each GW Shade, your work time is cut in more than half, and it goes on smoother and easier!

@Black_out: Averland sunset and a white basecoat are your friend, buddy.

@Knight of the Raven: Thanks bro! Yes, four razorbacks do look awesome, no? Imagine what eight would look like!

@Plains of War: Cheers! Glad you spotted it. And yeah I did it pretty much exactly for the reason you said. I also have a Night Lord devastator with Missile Launcher standing like that (only he's not pointing, but holding a missile), for the exact same reason.

Links to creepy flying babies are safe for NOTHING! :D

Your mix n' match marines are looking pretty darn cool! I'm always a fan of that look. It really lends weight to the idea that chapters in the 41st have been treating every piece of war plate as individual mini-relics, down to the last little servo.

This. It's exactly my motivation and reasoning behind the mix and match look. I really see SPace MarineChapters as these loges of ultra-conservative warrior monks that revere every single item in their posession, especially since power armour is so difficult to manufacture and thus gets passed down from brother to brother. It's a little like those ancient, stitched together cocktail jackets worn by Univeristy Rowing teams.

Anyway, I finished the tactical squad. Here they are in all their glory! (apologies for the overexposed pictures. Deal with it)

And of course, some shots of the individual squad members.

Veteran Sergeant Donau. Donauinherited his helmet and most of his armour armour from his former mentor and friend, Vexilarius Calon. Notice the transfers on his kneedpads. They´re the teeniest, tiniest transfers I´ve ever used. But they´re beautiful.

Brother Kon Dantula

Brother Caleb Hos. Notice that because of the reinforced armour studs on his left shoulder pad, Hos wears his chapter badge on the right shoulder, where the squad designation and number have been moved to the side to make room.

I hope you like them!

I also repainted the shoulder pads of my scouts into a bit warmer yellow, and put transfers on them from the IF transfer sheet. I cannot stress how awesome these transfers are.

Again, thanks for looking. Feedback most welcome!

I think I'm in need for some vehicular distraction after painting two squads of marines. Or maybe a character...

Replies!

@Barabbas Sogalon: Cheers! How do you like him in colour?

@Teetengee: PM send. I have a devastator flying baby to spare. You can have it.

@hushrong: Thanks buddy! Glad you like it! Your feedback keeps me going, so I welcome your comments in the future.

@Noctem Cultor: Haha thanks! I like the plumes too. Most sergeant will feature them, from now on.

@kizzdougs: You're going to have SO MUCH fun with the HH:BaC kit. the marines especially are SO well made.

@Flint13: Links to flying babies are YOUR DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Your imperial fists may be becoming my favorite on this site. Dat black trim and dat kitbashing. And I still love those scouts so much.

Out of unending greed for crusade-pattern pauldrons curiosity, where did the sergeant's plastic mkII shoulder pad come from?

Haha thanks buddy. The MkII plastic shoulder pad come from the MkIV tactical squad sprue that is included in the HH:BaC box. :tu:
