Thanks, everyone. After two days of sleeping in, and not thinking about work, I feel like a normal human being again. Yesterday, I build two things± the Leviathan Contemptor, and another five/man tactical squad for my 1250 list.

As I said before, I have all four different arms, with another Storm Cannon on the way from FW / as I like to be able to mix and match weapons. Unfortunately I ran out of proper magnets (I´ll have to wait until they arrive from Germany - hopefully before Christmas, but unlikely) so I magnetized the arms with some cheap 3x1mm temporary magnets from a Chinese seller.

I have to say, the kit comes together perfectly and is without a doubt the most intricate forgeworld kit I've ever handled. The way the joints go together is just unbelievable, especially how the elbows and knees slide into the joints. Just unbelievable perfection. the body now consists of three different main pieces: the upper body, the abdomen, and the pelvis-and-legs. Of course, there's several other different unglued pieces: the top of the body, the head, the missile rack on top, the feet, and the heavy flamers - the latter of which are also magnetized so I can add some CHOOM. ;)

Here are some pictures. I again went for a bit more dynamism than the kit actually allows - I achieve this by putting some 1:1 milliput-greenstuff balls between the foot-to-leg and between the leg-to-pelvis joints. I also had to raise the left foot slightly, using some plasticard, to make the pose I had in mind possible. This will be covered up with basing material, of course.

Let me know what you think of the pose I went for, as I'm not quite sure yet if I want it like this.

Work has also started on II Tactical Squad. :)

Thanks for looking. C&C as always, much appreciated and very welcome. It keeps me going. :) :tu:

@Atia: Ha! Go figure how old the mini is. I think it's still the same one which they designed in the late '90s.

@SkimaskMohawk: Glad you spotted the kill markings! And yeah the pictures are a little grainy, tbh. rest assured all lenses are highlighted properly. ;)

@codyrstuart: YES! Doing it. :0

@Black_out: Yays all around!

@Teetengee: Liar! ;)

@Venomlust: Of course! Faramund Brandt will stand in black, riding a yellow bike.

The Leviathan Dread and II Squad look great. Is that the base the dreadnought came with? Especially compared to the 32mm bases of the infantry models it looks too small for the walker.

The Leviathan equipped as a Rifleman on steroids might also be a cool option.

The Leviathan looks really intimidating! Not hard considering how massive he is but the pose helps aswell, it's like he's just spotted the next dead traitor and turns towards him. :wink:

Tac squad looking great aswell (apart from the mold lines) and I like 'my' Mk.III helmet, not that I doesn't like the rest (as I really do) but Mk.III is always worth an extra thumbs up. :biggrin.:

In person, auggie, not over the internet ;).

Also, Bonding studs\, squeee!

First off, that Leviathan. Wow. I was waiting for Russ for my first legitimate FW purchase, but you may have just changed my mind.

Second, love how II squad turned out. Especially Ernust. What do you have planned for that shield? Will it be squad designation, personal heraldry, or something else entirely?

Is...is this Leviathan Volt Gerbrandt, by any chance...?

Anyway, regarding the pose, it's fantastic! I just have one small suggestion: Maybe you should slightly tweak the angle of the head, as it looks as though the Leviathan wouldn't be able to see past his massive right pauldron if you leave the head at that precise angle. Although this is probably a bit of a non-issue, as I suspect the "eyes" aren't the only sensory input a Dreadnought has. Still thought I should point it out.

On a somewhat related note, this might interest you. A fellow German hobbyist has actually converted a Leviathan from the plastic Contempor, and that kind of craziness seems right up your alley ;)

Fantastic work, mate, as per! :)

Wow, thanks guys. This will be not so much of an update, but more an idea I had....

As I've said, I couldn't continue with the Leviathan, as I'm still waiting for the base (I used the Leviathan's origial for the attack bike) and magnets. The magnets just arrived (seriously, I ordered them three days ago. They're coming from Germany. Unbelievable shipping speed) and the 80mm base will arrive tomorrow. I haven't been idle, though, and painted the BaC-based chaplain and another razorback. I couldn't make any pics yet due to Christmas shenanigans, so I'm going to have to owe you those.

In the meantime, I've had an idea. Thudnerfire Cannons are crazy good, and there's a great formation for three with some extra rules-goodness. So I want three, and have wanted three since I decided to do Imperial Fists. There's three problems, though:

  • The first is I think the Thunderfire Cannon's model is ugly as all hell and looks way too technologically advanced compared to the other Space Marine tech. I know it sound a bit crazy to say that, but I really think it does. I can't explain why.
  • The second is I think GWs Techmarines are ugly, with those weird-ass servo harnesses. What's wrong with a simple servo arm?
  • The third is the thunderfire box is crazy expensive.

So I went looking for an alternative. And found it in the form of the Forge World Thudd Gun Quad Launcher. Like the Thunderfire cannon, it's a quad barreled mortar launcher. Check it out here:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/thudd%20gun_zps4jc6k51h.jpg

It just looks WAY cooler than a real Thunderfire Cannon - far more in line with the gritty siege/defense force that I imagine the Imperial Fists to be.  I can kitbash the techmarines from the techmarine torso and helmet that you get with every Space Marine Vehicle accessory sprue, and servo arms, well, we'll take care of that with sprue and/or bits sites. Also, instead of £36, it´s only £23.

The only real problem I have with the Thudd Gun is that it has wheels, not tracks. And in my mind, Space Marine vehicles (except for flyers, duh) have tracks. Thinking about this, I remembered I had ordered three track sets of the Kataphron Battle Servitors when I still wanted to make my own rapier batteries (which I've since decided against and just ordered the real things). So I went ahead and used my magical powerz of windows paint and snipping tool, and I came up with this:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/Naamloos_zps6wa1q4jc.jpg

Imagine the wheel not to be there. I think I can make it work so that the axis of the thudd guns carriage matches the uppermost axis in the tracks, the one with the Mechanicum symbol on it. Obviously this will slightly increase the angle of the carriage to the ground, but if you look at the left part of the carriage (which is actually meant to touch the ground) you'll notice that it will actually level with the ground because of the conversion. I think this could work and can't tell you how excited I am about this idea. What do you think?

:biggrin.: :laugh.: :cool.: :laugh.: :biggrin.:

@Dosjetka: Thanks for pointing those mold lines out to me, buddy! you're a life saver. :)

@tarvick: Leviathan rules here. I thank you for mentioning that you appreicate the mixing of armour marks. I get some flack for it at my local store, but as you say I think it adds to their character.

@Venomlust: Thanks buddy! Yeah the first loadout is the coolest. Perhaps with the siege drill though...

@Quixus: No, the Leviathan comes with an 80mm base, but I used that on my attack bike. So I temporarily used a 60mm base. Not to worry, he'll get a proper sized one.

@Grizzly_bear: Cheers bro!

@MrBear: Perhaps he did! I like that imagery. I might even have a spare dread front somewhere, and use it on his base.... Also: I gave 'your' sergeant Bernad Jakin a MkIII head to pay homage to your awesome VIII Captain, which has a helmet that might have been corrupted out of a MkIII helmet. :tu:

@Teetengee: Bonding studs FTW!

@The Hydra: Get one!

@Knight of the Raven: Thanks buddy!

@Flint13: CHOOM is sooooo ten millennia ago. ;)

@deathspectersgt7: Indeed, it is. Also: Whoosh from the double (not twin linked) flamerz YAY.

@Slipstreams: Hey buddy! In this case you get rip and tear AND whoosh. Oh, and a helluva lot of dakka.

@Dosjetka: I totally agree. 'Walkers can shoot only two weapons (right?), so I'd rather shoot the cannon and the melta, and then have the 2D3 Heavy Flamer shots in case he gets charged.

@codyrstuart: Get one. It's seriously such a joy to build it. Goes together like a dream, and the design of it (especially the knee and elbow joints) is simply amazing. I dunno about the shield, yet. Any ideas (quickly, because I'll start painting this squad tomorrow?

@CaptainStabby: First off, I love your name. Second: stompy AND dakka. Oh wait, wrong forum.

@KrautScientist: Yes, this is Volt Gerbrandt. It´s you! You make an interesting point regarding the LoS of the head versus the massive shoulder pad. He is in mid-strike, though, so perhaps the LoS/blockage is only for a moment, and doesn´t really matter. I'm glad you like the overall pose! I was going to PM you about some ideas for fluff and/or detailing ideas (like a crotch/torso banner etc.) but I might as well ask you here. That scratch build leviathan is a very involved and original idea, but I really prefer the original model...

@Thousand Eyes: Will do buddy. Before work start in January.

@Black_out: LoL. WIll do, no worries.

@Alpharaz: Thanks, friend. Glad you like them, and indeed I owe tons of credit to Grizzly_bear, who revealed all his recipes.

Easy:

  1. It's a small version of the awesome large thudd gun.
  2. It's a SMALL version of the AWESOME large thudd gun
  3. It looks weird and small and stupid
  4. My version is more easily identifiable as a thunderfire cannon counts-as.
  5. I already have six other rapiers to paint ;)
