I'm no photography expert, but there was nothing "wrong" with your photos, they just needed a bit of correcting to sharpen them up some and removing the red tint from the Domitar pic. I used the Auto Color, and then did manual adjustments with Curves, Levels, Hue/Saturation, and Contrast. I don't always like the results of Auto Contrast and Auto Tone and rarely use them.

True enough, but it's a good place to start if you have little previous knowledge of image editing.

@ Augs: Here's a post you might want to check out. It really goes into lots of useful detail and you don't even need Photoshop to make use of it.

Thanks guys!

Although I didn't even post a WiP picture here, I did vow another unit as a fifth vow in the ETL - a Herald of Khorne. Just the one from the Skullcannon kit - with the left hand converted to look like a clenched fist. Anyway, here are some pictures.

I can't believe how washed out the colours look in the pics though - I assure you, the highlighting on the face is very pronounced!

Feedback welcome.

@ KrautScientist: I don't own photoshop, and my phone's camera is weird with white balance. I need to practice more, methinks.

@ DuskRaider: Cheers, buddy, you're welcome! :)

@ FangBanger: thanks to you too, mate!

@ BCK: Ah, well I don't own photoshop, so I should start messing around in GIMP, I think. Thanks for the input!

@ KrautScientist: That's a helpful link, thanks! I'll take a looksee through that whole section, actually. :tu:

@ BrotherJim: Ha! It's my usual speed. Because of some personal issues, I haven't been as productive as I can, these past few months. Still, 6K points in high-value/points models is nothing to sneeze at, I think. :)

@ Mechanist: Cheers buddy! I'll definitely weather his feet and other areas. Thanks to you and Krauty for pointing it out. :)

Another ETL, another phalanx of warp-tainted evil pours forth from this thread. Of course it all looks stunning.

Must commend you specially on the hazard stripes on the IW stuff, they are super precise, which is as it should be.There's great depth to your silver, too.

Great to see another Helltalon, I think I've mentioned previously it's one of my favourite non-imperial models and it looks oh so right clad in midnight.

Hellooo. It´s been some time. Must say the ETL makes me more productive each year, but a bit less creative. I miss that side of the hobby, which is why I´ve decided to only slowly add to my Khorne Daemonkin, HH Iron Warriors, and to my Imperial Fists. Just a couple models at a time, perhaps a combat squad or a vehicle. I intend to revive this thread with kitbashes again, and focus on what I like most about creating armies: to make each and every miniature have the character it deserves. I have the whole weekend to hobby, so here goes:

I present to you my latest stock -ironically, given the previous statement- vehicle, the Mortis Patter Contemptor Dreadnought:

Venerable Hannrich Jäger, called 'Aestus'

(named by Brother Heinrich)

I decided to make him look like he's walking at a relatively slow pace, moving down whatever infantry he can see. I hope you like him!

In addition, I did some long overdue repairs and details to several miniatures I finished before and during the ETL.

First up is the veritable Franz Landa, Captain of the Fifth Company of the Imperial Fists. He is, of course, based on the Nathaniel Garro miniature, and had the original sword - which wasn't WYSIWYG as Landa carries a simple Chainsword, but you know, rool of cool.

However, the sword broke off during a recent game, and was beyond repair. So I gave him the DV Dark Angels Biker Sergeant's chainsword:

Next, the guy I've been getting flak over for a couple months by frater KrautScientist, and rightly so, might I add. The Bloodthirster. I highlighted his face, teeth, and horns, painted his eyes much crispier, and lastly bloodied his mouth. Much better.

In addition, I gave the eyes of the Soul Grinder some love, with VMA Light Sea Blue eyes followed by a GW Drakenhof Nightshade wash... Ironically the anle of this shot doesn't even show the light eyes, they're that sunk in their respective sockets...

And lastly, someone pointed out that the barrel of the iron Warriors Typhon looked far too new. So that is now fixed. Thanks!

So there. I'm now off to painting the second dreadnought in my second Imperial Fists Expansion IV vow: an Ironclad with a Chainfist and Heavy Flamer.

Thanks, helterskelter, that is very nice of you to say and motivating me to continue it for sure. :smile.:

Biohazard: it's not a character from the HH. It's my own converted Company Captain, based on Nathaniel Garro form FW:

That's a fantastic update, buddy! Excellent work all around! That Bloodthirster, though: That guy simply takes the cake for me! I now feel completely vindicated about pestering you RE: the face: It's looking absolutely fabulous now, which really transforms the entire model for me!

It also seems like the highlights on the red armour plates came out much better in these new photos, making it much easier to appreciate the depth you have managed to achieve on the armour.

Keep up the fantastic work! And here's to the upcoming 100th page of this amazing thread! :)

Alright, I'm finishing up the last touches on the Ironclad dreadnought right now.

In the meantime, I also went back to the Contemptor, above, and changed his pose. It just wasn't really really wasn´t working for me, as it had an ambling gait -where the left appendages move forward and backward at the same time, and vice versa for the right appendages). This isn´t normal for humans (and most animals, actually), so it feels awkward in a walker with a humanoid form. I made the same mistake with my Night Lords assault contemptor Cilice Macelarius, and I still regret it. That time it couldn´t be fixed because of the arms, but this Imperial Fists contemptor has the same weapon arms, which are also magnetized. So I just had to rework the abdominal armour a bit and twist his torso and his helmet. Hey presto!

I hope you like!

@ Skrundle87: Do you mean Captain Eight Legs? He's meant to represent a Lord of Skulls, but thanks anyway! :smile.:

@ Viridia: Cheers, buddy! Yeah, even without that black sword, he looks like a total boss!

@ Uveron: I think so, perhaps a Khornate character on a Juggernaut.

@Andvarr A: Thanks, Andy!

@ KrautScienist: Hurray, approval! But seriously, I'm glad you noticed and mentioned the armour details, as I was quite satisfied with the thrister overall. It's just that my light box and especially my phone camera just can't handle such a large and complex kit, so most detail is out of focus on the original pics.

@ fire golem: No :censored: , Sherlock! Herp derp. Would you mind putting the Landa pic in hidden brackets? I'd appreciate it!

Don't dodge the swear filter by replacing letters with symbols, it is a violation of the B&C rules. Use the :cuss emoticon, that's what it is for.

MY NAME IS BOXXY

 I'm kidding. I finished the Ironclad Dreadnought, and I think you'll agree with me when I state my love for its boxy brutality. Please allow me to present:

Kubis Gabcik

Ironclad Siege Dreadnought attached to the 5th Company Imperial Fists

His name is a portmonteau of the names of British-trained Czech paratroopers Jan Kubiš and Jozef Gabčík, which I found appropriate for three reasons. First, it came to my attention that the original name of the contemptor on the previous page was based on the name of a terrible WWII war criminal. Now, the Imperial Fists are loosely based on Prussian/WWI German military culture, but I found the original name's link to that particular individual to be a little too on the nose, so I though it´d e good to regain some Karma by naming this one after said war criminal´s assassins; Second, like the aforenamed paratroopers,  this Ironclad Dreadnought's role is to drop behind enemy lines and destroy high value targets; and Third, his first name sounds like the Dutch word for cube, the appropriateness of which, given his boxy appearance, I found self-evident.

Also: YAY 100 PAGES!!!!

@ Andvarr A: Thanks buddy! The yellow is surprisingly easy, provided you have an airbrush for step 3:

  1. Prime white.
  2. Basecoat GW Averland Sunset.
  3. Shade with a 1:1 mix of GW Averland Sunset and VMA Hull Red.
  4. Gloss Varnish all over.
  5. 'Blackline' with GW Agrax Earthshade Gloss.
  6. Edge highlight with 1:1 mix of GW Averland Sunset and GW Yriel Yellow.
  7. Satin Varnish all over.

@ kizzdougs: Cheers, buddy! It says DEI SANCTUS REX

Edit: sniped by kizzdougs, editted in a reply.

Kubis Gabcik looks fantastic! The pant job as usual is spot on, the bit of weathering looks excellent, and the icons add a lot to the over look of a veteran entombed in a murder-bot box.

The naming behind him also adds character. I must also say drop pod dreads are among my least favorite things recently. My buddy does that with this Space Wolves dread that loves to host surprise massacres in my gun lines.
