tjdudey
Hi All, I am brand new to Warhammer, and therefore Space Wolves. I have had a long distance love affair with Warhammer for at least 15 years, from when I was in school. Money always got in the way. A friend of a friend very kindly recently donated a builtbut thankfully unpainted Space Wolves Battle force plus a couple of extras, towhich I have added a couple of bits, and so here begins my Space Wolves Legacy… I love the wolves, I always appreciated the look of theSpace Marines, but the wolves are just that bit more unique, tough looking andfearsome sounding. I have played three matches in the last month against 2friends of mine, here are the results: Match One, Against my friends Necrons, (I can’t remember my List, itwas thrown together quite quickly, but it was 1250pts). This ended in a draw at turn 5. It was a shame the match didn’tcontinue, as I had him on the run. He had made no progress up the board, and Ihad quickly and easily achieved linebreaker on him. Match Two, Against my other friends Tyranids. This was going well, buthe had just too many Monstrous Creatures with 4,5 or 6 wounds. It was a lossfor me, on turn 5. Again, I can’t remember the list but it was 1750pts. Was funseeing skyclaws tear apart all his small, squishy troop units though. Last night was match three. As both friends mentioned above have a Tau army too, we did them against me,2000pts wolves, and they fielded 1000pts of Tau each. They each played a HQ aswarlord, so I played both my HQ’s as warlords to even it out. Here is my list for this match: HQ1 – Rune Priest, Master of Runes, Living Lightning,Tempests Wrath, Terminator Armour HQ2 – Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf – No upgrades Troops: 3 x 7 grey hunters with wolf guard pack leader (Melta gun, wolf standard, Mark of Wulfen in each) 5 Skyclaws – no upgrades 4 Long fangs – Missile Launchers 5 Long Fangs – Missile Launchers 5 Wolf Guard Terminators – Cyclone missile launcher, Mark ofWulfen 2 Lone wolfs each in a separate drop pod – TerminatorArmour, Melta bomb, mark of wulfen 3 Vindicators (I realise this gives me 5 heavy support, but it was just a friendly game, so we weren't being strict to the organization chart, this was cleared with my opponents before starting) This was a great match. Finished on Turn 5 with Wolveswinning 8 Victory Points to 6.Was 6-5 in favour of Tau on my last turn, when Iwiped out a retreating squad of Fire Warriors with Living Lightning, animmobilised Vindicator finished off a crisis suit which had failed to move intocover, and my lone remaining long fang glanced the last hull point off ahammerhead. Was a fabulous end to the match. Anyway, it has been an enjoyable start to a space wolvescareer, and I appreciate any feedback/advice. Cate
First of all I want to say, Welcome to the fang. Sounds like you had fun in those matches, hope you will have more as enjoyable matches. In the future you might want to tweak around your list, I am not a such a good list builder, so I will not advice you about that, I am sure others will do that. :) I hope we might see some pictures in the future of your band of jolly Wolves. /C Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286932-new-wolves-player-first-match-results/#findComment-3596201 Share on other sites

There are all currently unpainted, but I bought some paints and tools this weekend just gone, so I will begin painting them soon. I will be going a little off piste from normal space wolves colours, but hopefully not too controversial. BTW, should I post pics directly into the posts? or put links in? is there a preference on the forum? Rune Priest Jbickb
Welcome brother! No worries about the extra heavy as you can always play double force Org at 2000 points. As for list building advice, some simple and effective advice I received when I first started wolves was 1 full grey hunter squad per 500 points in a list. This has proven to be best for me and a good start to my list building endeavors. As for other advice I have come to love drop pods for a good alpha strike, but that is my play style so no need to do n it if that's not your fave, but if you do odd numbers are the way to go. Otherwise experiment with what you like, build and paint your favorite units and remember it a game and hobby for fun first and victory second. If you are ever in the Phoenix AZ area pm me and we will get a game of wolf on wolf. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286932-new-wolves-player-first-match-results/#findComment-3596229 Share on other sites

I spend the extra for the Deathwind Launcher, just because enemies get afraid and wast fire on them. Last night, I used them in turn one and two, both thurns they took marker light fire and heavy rail rifle fire away from my army. Plus they killed a few squishy troops as well... Wolves will emerge victorious!!!! Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
Welcome!! There's a lot of friendly folks here, so you've come to the right place!! Can Lone Wolves take Drop Pods now??!! Did you get your value out of the quite expensive Master of Runes upgrade?? I've always been tempted, but the 50 points scares me away... End of Line AAAAH, You are right, they shouldn't have gone in drop pods. Never mind, they did barely any damage, (one of them I forgot to move on my turn so he landed and stood there, and died, IDIOT!) I will remember this in future. As for the rune priest, I was using LL and Tempest Wrath, because my opponent was deep striking, as it turned out they didn't deep strike anywhere near me so it was a bit of a waste. Against nids I took a master of runes as well, with Jaws, but he failed his Psychic test and failed his armor save next turn, so he did nothing at all. Damn the dice!!! Thanks for welcoming me! Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
HAHA!! It's alright, you're learning!! If I was to run the MoR, I would most likely be running Living Lightning and JaWWs ( or Hurricane ) as well, but with LL/JaWWs you get a lot of bang for your buck!! My guess is that we will see more psychic levels for cheaper in the new dex, much like codex marines, and a power pellet increase for Jaws. But that's the future, right??!! ;) End of Line Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286932-new-wolves-player-first-match-results/#findComment-3596370 Share on other sites
DanPesci
Man i wish i could put lone wolves in drop pods :D welcome sir! The lists look fun, fire it up in more detail in the army list section, i usually pander about there on my lunch break, and would be more than happy to hand out some advice. Dont really play competitively myself but play a fair amount of friendly games with mates. Was very similar to yourself in that i could never really afford stuff when in school, but now nearing 30 and with the existance of ebay have managed to build up my wolves over the last couple of years :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286932-new-wolves-player-first-match-results/#findComment-3596487 Share on other sites
