Please step right this way, Silver Phoenix. Yes, that's right, third chamber on the left, number 42. What's that? You left the oven on? Not to worry Silver Phoenix, I'll send a servitor to deal with it. Please just take a seat and make yourself... comfortable. The chair looks like a porta-rack? Funny you should say that... Now, tell me about these Templars... ;)

Well I have always made my home over in the Liber but with circumstances changing in my life (first born child on the way) as well as deciding its time I re-invent myself in the hobby I think this is a good way to go.  Combining my new ideas with my old so to speak and to get such a awesome reward at the end (Tasty looking PDF) I think its time to start this thing...

I, Silver Phoenix, vow to re-awaken the great Scriptorium servitors and chant the Litany of Purification upon the ancient cogitators that have lain silent for so long to provide a detailed telling of a Chapter of the Unforgiven (Chapter name pending). A Chapter whom stand apart from their brethren and Primogenitors. A Chapter whose own dark secret rivals that of the Fallen.  I shall tell of their history and bring glory to these honoured brothers...

Happy, Capt Semper.  You told me last year I should abandon the Liber and come over to the Dark (Angel) Side...

Excellent...number ten!! That is a fantastic set of oath makers. Looking forward to seeing your entries!:)

... just remember SIlver Phoenix.... you just exposed yourself to the Unforgiven...and once in...never out..... not even in death!!:whistling:

SG

A good start with all these new chapters being created. Hopefully people are drawing up some parts of their submission already.

Okay okay. I'll stop playing so much with the marine painter. I'm working on my submission now. :whistling:

Great stuff guys!!! This is gaining momentum! :tu:

@ Brule: How did you make this? It's coolness incarnate!

@ Archangel: I really want to see what the name of this Chapter is! I see color coded shoulder pad rims and a white helmet... Are these guys Codex adherent? :o

@ Brule: How did you make this? It's coolness incarnate!

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. :smile.:

I found an image of a battle barge online (I'm pretty sure it's from the BFG rulebook). I then used Microsoft Paint to rough out the basic areas (the main hull, the spars and antennae, the lights, the colored panels, and the embellishments) as different images. Then, setting Paint so that white is transparent, I simply colored each of the area images in the colors I wanted, using the color scheme of my chapter. I then copied and pasted all of the images together (the white transparency allowing them to merge without covering the various images). Then I used Adobe Photoshop to have multiple layers of the original schematic image and the fully colored version, applying varying opacity/transparency and filters. I also copied the chapter badge onto one of the colored panels. It didn't come out as good as I would have liked, but my skills in Photoshop are pretty limited.

Still working on my submission. Just saving it here while I'm at work. Take a peek if you'd like.

ORIGIN

In the early years of the 32nd Millennium, a steady rise in xenos activity and several unexpected chaos incursions led to the creation of the Avenging Angels during the Fourth Founding. In addition to their need for more space marines, members of the High Lords of Terra saw this as an unexpected opportunity. Some space marine chapters had been known to deviate from the Codex Astartes as written by Roboute Guilliman. As these new chapters were being formed, the High Lords would be able to examine them more closely.

The revered Dark Angels Chapter, although known for being secretive and diverging slightly in some of its chapter formations, did not hesitate to accept the "challenge" from the High Lords. The Avenging Angels would be seen as being totally compliant to the Codex Astartes. After all, the Primarchs Lion El'Johnson and Roboute Guilliman were both loyal sons of the Emperor with a great deal of respect and understanding for each other's sense of order and tactical accumen.

Under the watchful eyes of the Imperial Administrators, the Avenging Angels trained diligently in accordance with the precepts of the Codex Astartes. There were no real difficulties in accomplishing this as the Codex Astartes is the undisputed doctrine governing all aspects of chapter organization and battlefield tactics. What were their parent Dark Angels' own Deathwing and Ravenwing companies than further examples of tactical complexity? Although not being represented as prominently, the Avenging Angels were still instructed in their formative and tactical applications.

As battlefield reports of the Avenging Angels began to show victory after victory, the Imperial scrutiny of the High Lords began to lessen. All official reports showed the Avenging Angels performed as relentlessly as any other codex adherent chapter. Their performance ratios rivaled those of the legendary Ultramarines themselves. Some isolated reports concerning the Avenging Angels' 1st company taking to the battlefield in a hundred suits of terminator armour and the sixth and seventh reserve companies operating in mass with bikes and land speeders were quickly explained as actions of necessity due to available chapter forces at the time. The Avenging Angels had become the perfect shield against further attempts to discern the methodology of the Dark Angels in this manner.

Although the chapter had deflected the threat from Imperial agents, one of the Dark Angels most deeply held secrets would strike at the heart of the Avenging Angels Chapter. During the early years of the chapter's tutelage, knowledge of the "Fallen Angels" [ref. Caliban, Heresy] had been deliberately withheld for the new chapter's own protection. As several millennia passed, this secret was unexpectedly revealed to the Avenging Angels by one of its most infamous representatives: Cypher. His presence created a schism within the chapter. The records of this confrontation have been sealed by the serving chapter master, but fragmented reports tell of a battle against a small renegade warband called the Nomads [ref. Cypher, Nomads].

After the engagement, the Avenging Angels reported the loss of one hundred and eighty battle brothers. Other Imperial reports concerning the warband Nomads indicate their membership reportedly increased, no doubt as a result of the reputation of striking such a blow to one of the most valiant of Astartes chapters. The remaining Avenging Angels swore an oath they would not be deserving of replacing their lost numbers until the one hundred ad eighty battle brothers had been avenged. At present, the Avenging Angels have managed to restore seventy-two battle brothers to their chapter.

HOMEWORLD

Zeta Cancri Messier 422, Ultima Segmentum, is a recovering hive world. Once a thriving industrial pillar of the Ultima Segmentum, it was nearly destroyed by Waaagh! Grimzghull. The orks infiltrated the star system and managed to overwhelm the existing Imperial Guard defense posts. The Warlord Grimzghkull broke the ring of orbiting dockyards and sent fiery debris down upon many of the hive cities and manufactoriums. The chain reaction of destruction laid waste to nearly half the planet. The Emperor's divine mercy allowed a single distress signal to reach the Avenging Angels' fortress battle barge, Justitia Aeternia. After several days of fierce fighting, the Avenging Angels finally turned the tide of battle against the orks. Routing the Waaagh! away from the system, the Avenging Angels were soon joined by a fleet of Ultramarine battle barges. Together they chased Grimzghull and his orks into the uncharted Eastern Fringe.

Impressed with the strength and valor demonstrated by the Avenging Angels, the Chapter Master of the Ultramarines rewarded the spacefaring Angels with a world they could protect and call their own. The Avenging Angels accepted their offer and swiftly took to the challenge of restoring the world to its former stature. Dividing their chapter's forces, they provided a garrison for the star system as well as continuing their patrols bear the Eastern Fringe. After two centuries, the hive world was back to its former productivity levels. The world's inhabitants also provided an excellent source of new recruits. Most of all, the Dark Angels Grand Masters appreciated having an loyal successor chapter well established within the Ultima Segmentum.

Although they had established a Fortress Monastery on the hive world, the Avenging Angels still operated as a spacefaring chapter. The newly built orbiting dockyards were protected by an entire space marine company rotated from the chapter on a periodic basis.

PRESENT ACTIVITIES

The Avenging Angels' main area of activity over the last few millennia has been in the Eastern Fringe of the Ultima Segmentum. Periodically, they have sent forces to the Tempestus Segmentum to assist in several xenos incursions. Coincidentally, they have been in proximity to assist their parent chapter, whose own chapter fortress, the Rock, has been reported in the area. Reports of renegade warbands raiding nearby systems fit the description of the infamous Nomads.

Unfortunately, splitting their forces has proved costly to the Avenging Angels. A tyranid swarm assaulted several of their patrol ships and strike cruisers. Three of their battle companies were reduced to less than half strength in their purge of the ravenous xenos. The tyranids were eventually forced to withdraw. Some commanders felt they did so too easily, causing concern that the tyranids are rallying for a new surge.

CHAPTER ORGANIZATION

The Avenging Angels are, to all appearances, a strictly codex-adherent chapter. They do not have an equivalent to the Dark Angels' Deathwing or Ravenwing... at least not by name. Their Veteran 1st Company does not always operate in Terminator armour. When they have done so, other Imperial forces have given them the nickname of "Eaglewing". They do not acknowledge the designation, but they have not dissuaded others from using it. On rare occasions, the sixth and seventh Tactical Reserve Companies have lent large squads of bikers and speeders to their various battle companies. On even rarer occasions, they were reported to have used an entire reserve company of bikers when it was "tactically" necessary.

med_gallery_8429_9515_9501.jpg

As a codex-adherent chapter, the Avenging Angels have access to the same standard equipment seen in typical space marine armies. Centurions, Storm Ravens, Storm Talons and even a few non-Dark Angel styled relics have been documented. As a successor of the Unforgiven, the Dark Angels have provided assistance to the Avenging Angels armoury. Dark Shrouds, Dark Talons, and even the Corvex-pattern jet bike are rumoured to be in their possession.

The Avenging Angels also enjoys a closer relationship to the Adeptus Mechanicus than their parent chapter. The Adeptus Mechanicus believe they have a better understanding of codex-adherent chapters and are secure that the secrets and equipment they provide will be used as reverently as any other strictly loyal chapter.

FLEET ASSETS

Having restored the dockyards of their home world, the Avenging Angels have managed to oversee construction of a moderately large number of ships. At present, they have five battle barges in service and two others under construction. Ten strike cruisers and a large number of smaller escort and patrol vessels are also in service.

CHAPTER COLORS

The Avenging Angels wear predominantly blue armour with red greaves, forearms, and gauntlets. The Chapter Badge of a white sword with red wings is prominently displayed on the left shoulder pauldron. Company colours are displayed on the pauldron's trim. Veteran helmets are white and Sergeants' helmets are red. [ref. Codex Astartes]

Sergeants' robes are in white. Command Officers' robes are also white and trimmed in silver for Captains, in black for Chaplains, in blue for Librarians, and in red for Techmarines.

RELICS

The Avenging Angels have several revered relics accumulated over the eight millennia they have been in service to the Emperor. They are used rarely and are divided between their fortress monastery and command battle barge.

For Grand Master Belial:

You can find the image at http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/125287-img-8375-zps5fbcd5b2jpg320x480/ .

I took yours and traced over it, then increased it in size by a factor of 5 (I always make my images larger than I need so that I can shrink them down to varying sizes, allowing a single image to be used in a variety of applications).

So far some excellent promise coming through.

To all participants: I am happy to provide an image of your home world. I had a plug in for Photoshop which creates worlds and planets.... can't remember the name now and not sure if it's still on my computer but I do have about 50 ready made worlds from verdant green ones to sand dunes or oceans.... So when you complete your submission I am happy to plop one of those images that resembles your description of the world/worlds... in the meantime I shall go looking for my plug-in!! :)

Brule: That battlebarge is just superb. I would love to see that incorporated in to the SM Painter.....  Not sure what the technical limitations are but if you are okay with it. I am happy to ask the admins to ave a look?

SG

Hmmm not sure that was what it was called.... There were two or three..one to make planets, one made starfields and one made stars.... I had two of three... but given the state of my brain.... well... you are likely to be right...

BTW.... I am looking forward to your submission to the BHoA .... long time memory has some flash backs of the Angels of Vigilance..... and being linked to Brother Tyler.... I remember a character submission to the Fortress site Master Lesage.... What say you???  :)

SG

Oh, is the gauntlet being thrown?

I'm fairly busy in RL, but I reckon I can do something. I actually considered fleshing the Angels of Veneration out, but I much prefer the Angels of Vigilance for this year.

Why don't we make it a challenge? I'll write about the Angels of Vigilance if you do something for the Shadow Guards.

Is that a deal?:pirate:

Damn it BT..... I am not busy in real life! I am drowning in it! That isn't a gauntlet you've thrown down...it's the entire bloody suit of armour!!!  Well, as they say, a challenge is a challenge is indeed a challenge....  so here goes...

I, Shadow Guard, make this oath of moment to delve in to the cogitators of the librarium and re-write the history of the brave warriors of the chapters of the emperor's warriors know now as the Knights Revenant..... formerly known to all as the Shadow Guards Chapter in the hope of seeing Grand Master Tyler do the same for his much beloved brothers from the world of Pervigilium, the Angels of Vigilance!

.... how was that? tied your oath in to mine....

Just as a note the Shadow Guards Chapter was always going to be renamed based on the back story I created but the chapter name I chose was Angels Revenant...unfortunately in the last FW Book.... GW decided to flesh out Angels of Revenant ...just a page of info but scuttle my plans for using the name... SO here come the Knights Revenant Chapter...:)

SG

I, Brother Tyler, Inquisitor Lord of the Ordo Tyrannus, in the name of the Lion, make this oath of moment to submit a complete history of the Angels of Vigilance Chapter and its honoured brothers; in hopes that The Shadow Guard will enlighten us with the history of the Knights Revenant without weaseling out due to so-called "drowning" in real life or some other lame excuse.

Touche' :blush.:

SG

Ah... and so it does...... but it hasn't ended yet!!! Soon... very soon......

I am sure you'll do the Angels of Vigilance justice BT, I was very disappointed that they were not included in our most recent codex.... Look forward to it....
