My black has been very simple to be honest.... Undercoat the model halfords grey plastic car primer (UK) I'm sure any other grey undercoat would be perfect, water down vallejo model black and apply the black to the areas you want black, then I line highlight the armour with a personal mixed pot of shadow grey and chaos black, then wash with army painter dark tone. Then add the battle damage/mud/rust as you see fit. I'm doing work for the chaplain though.
