BrotherJim
I'm so happy you can put marines together ABD I wouldn't stress too much about the paint, just get it done. You can always fix it later! Goodluck! Alright when I get home I will edit it to say ADB, not ABD Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290860-the-angels-numinous/page/5/#findComment-3714210 Share on other sites
Valkyrion
Wait, what? This thread has pictures! Who are you and what have you done with ADB? Dig the mini, though. I've always struggled translating wash and drybrush heavy minis to work with vehicles. Are there tanks en route? Be good to see how they come outt. Urauloth
What's going to distinguish the Numinous, colour-wise, from their parent legion? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290860-the-angels-numinous/page/5/#findComment-3714558 Share on other sites
Dosjetka
What's going to distinguish the Numinous, colour-wise, from their parent legion? The ADB trademark brushstrokes ;) ADB: Thanks for the paint recipes. Aqui
ADB: Thanks for the paint recipes. Looking forward to seeing more of your work! Indeed - seeing his shade of red and yellow made me decide to start this topic - Succumbing to the red, yellow and...blue?! Thanks ADB! Iron Hands Fanatic
Really nice contrast on the colour-scheme, using yellow as a secondary colour will be really effective at drawing the eye to different parts of the model. I don't suppose you've considered painting a single arm in the yellow (maybe leaving the shoulder-pad red)? Maybe Its just something about the asymmetry, but I think having an arm in the secondary colour really adds something to many schemes, and with the specific shades you've used, it'd pop really well. Plus being able to reference it to a specific event / feature of your Chapter's history is a nice way to tie the background into each model. Hexagon Sun
All looking great so far, there are some great kitbashes and poses going on. You've got a really nice solid red and I know you put down your painting, but being neat is half of the battle. Currently it's one you're winning based on the WIP shot. I think from the photos you've used the sanguinary guard pad with the angel holding a chalice for most of the squad so far. Is that going to be the chapter badge? Looking forward to seeing more and especially reading your background. Reason for edit: typos Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290860-the-angels-numinous/page/5/#findComment-3714919 Share on other sites
Doghouse
Sounds like you take the same approach to painting as me, start off with one colour and then change your mind halfway through. I'm in a similar boat at the moment, just started painting some mustard yellow marines for a diy chapter and I'm already considering turning them into Imperial Fists. I think that is the pitfall of DIY chapters, sometimes you have too much creative license as opposed to a box standard established chapter which for the most part has the hard work done for you.. I know it doesn't help much but in all honesty it might be worth knocking up a yellow marine to get it out of your system if you have time and see if you actually prefer it or whether it is just a whim. Nothing worse than struggling with the thought of what might have been when painting when the reality of the situation may well be that this current scheme is the better of the two. The current scheme is very bold, I think you've done a nice job of it. I'd play around a bit more before settling though. Knight of the Raven
You actually make me want to buy GW stuff, A D-B. Yes, even the overpriced paints. I hope you're proud of yourself. A D-B
I come bearing pics. Admittedly, dusk in my backyard isn't a great time for photos, but I wanted to get some evidence online as proof of - at last - a milestone hit. Better photos soon. As you're about to see, rather than going with an old school Blood Angels Orange, I went with a darker, bloody red, which looks fairly neutral in the waning daylight, but it's pretty dark in artificial light. You're all painters - you know what I mean. He's not dullcoted yet, so he's still a little shiny from the 'ardcoat. I'm fine with that for now. The purple gem-drops Chapter symbol came out quite nice, and I dig the stone scroll on one shoulder guard. Those two things are specific to the Chapter, tied into their background, which I'll get into soon. The slightly blurry backpack probably shows the best example of the highlights, in dusk's weird light. Anyway...: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290860-the-angels-numinous/page/5/#findComment-3732781 Share on other sites
Captain Semper
 ADB I never thought you had it in you! This is beautiful work man, beautiful! Love the base too! Balthamal
Given your own self-confessed "issues" when it comes to painting, I salute you. Redwunzgofasta
Hi AD-B, Great first Angel Numinous! I like the colour you've gone for on the aquilla against the red armour and I really like the yellow and shading you've done on the helmet. As someone who's flaked on many projects in the past I know this must be a great moment! Also, I can't send you my first post without saying that the Night Lords novels are the best books I've ever read. The absolute best. Son of Carnelian
He looks incredible. Personally though, I've never liked making the exhausts on the backpacks a metallic color save for the very edges. But it ties the miniature together very nicely! Post that background soon! I cannot wait to read it! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290860-the-angels-numinous/page/5/#findComment-3732818 Share on other sites
