jah-joshua
hey B&C... here are the two conversions i did on the second Legion of the Damned squad... since there is no combi-melta armed Sergeant, or melta armed Marine, i had to do a little chop-shop action... cutting up a bolter was easy enough, but you can see where i went a little too far, and had to use a bit of Greenstuff to fill in the gap that was left near the back of the gun when i fit the melta bit on... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/combi_zpsigskv5vg.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/combi1_zpsu01mh8tp.jpg the melta gun Marine was also easy to convert... cutting the left hand off of the original bolter was the fiddliest bit, but Finecast cuts like butter, so it wasn't difficult... my client now has a unique squad, with badass tank killing weapons... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/melta_zpsgnidvopm.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/melta1_zpspamvth6y.jpg thanks for looking... cheers jah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292194-jahminis-and-now-im-making-your-silver-pants-blue/page/15/#findComment-4216540 Share on other sites

jah-joshua
thanks, dude... here is the first progress on the Sorcerer of Nurgle for the Black Crusade commission... the beat-up armor is so well sculpted... the most fun i have had painting in a long time:)... it is painted with the same mix as the jump pack, a 1-1 mix of P3 Ordic Olive and P3 Traitor Green, shaded with the old GW Leviathan Purple wash... i forgot what my highlight color was, so i just dove in with some P3 Thrall Flesh... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/NurgleSorcerer5_zps6pp6ja0o.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/NurgleSorcerer6_zps5tgagp3p.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/NurgleSorcerer7_zpspfwcunjn.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/NurgleSorcerer8_zpsqzowu19u.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/NurgleSorcerer9_zpst8wwgyte.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/NurgleSorcerer10_zpscdqidb2h.jpg now i need a cool green-black mummified flesh color, and some purple in the gribbly bits... then, some purple OSL for the hand and eyes, a bit of verdigrised bronze, and some fun bright greens for the Nurglings... thanks for looking... i hope you like him... cheers jah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292194-jahminis-and-now-im-making-your-silver-pants-blue/page/15/#findComment-4218332 Share on other sites

jah-joshua
hey B&C... well, after the death of my laptop last week, i am back in action with a new one:)... now i just need to learn how to edit pics on it... i got close today, but i'm just winging it right now... catching up with more of October's work, here is the LotD multi-melta Marine... i love this weapon... it looks like it means business!!! hopefully, this guy is blasting Eldar tanks off of the table right now;)... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/MultiMelta_zpskjwvf0g6.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/MultiMelta1_zpsu75uknfa.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/MultiMelta2_zpsl5mnh4ds.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/MultiMelta3_zpskxpxdilp.jpg two more bolter Marines to show, and then the squad shot... thanks for looking... i hope you like him... cheers jah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292194-jahminis-and-now-im-making-your-silver-pants-blue/page/15/#findComment-4230944 Share on other sites

jah-joshua
@Magic Man: cheers, mate... it started as a way of fitting in with Cassius' Tyranid Hunters, but it does seem to fit the vibe of the LotD in a great way... i still want to do my Sgt. Centurius model in a pristine style, and try a more ghostly version, too, but it is always fun to paint something in a different that hasn't been done to death already:)... here is the first bolter Marine of the second Legion of the Damned squad... nothing special here, just another body to fill out the squad... i have been having adding some age and texture to the leather bits on these guys... a bit of wear and tear seems a lot more visually interesting that brand new pouches, straps, and holsters... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/BolterC_zpsyhadondb.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/BolterC1_zpsyuu1nbxa.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/BolterC2_zpsfnd5oag1.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/BolterC3_zpslk4dulf9.jpg thanks for looking... i hope you like him... cheers jah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292194-jahminis-and-now-im-making-your-silver-pants-blue/page/15/#findComment-4232498 Share on other sites
jah-joshua
hey B&C... here is the final Marine from the Legion of the Damned squad... these guys are such good sculpts, each with enough individuality, that i am sad to finish this commission, even after ten of these minis... that's always nice:)... i'm a big fan of the box mag on this guy's bolter... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/BolterD_zpsmmmidg4h.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/BolterD1_zpskq9ocvms.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/BolterD2_zpspmssvfqt.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/BolterD3_zpsyaffnzql.jpg next up, the squad photo!!! thanks for looking... i hope you like him... cheers jah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292194-jahminis-and-now-im-making-your-silver-pants-blue/page/15/#findComment-4238137 Share on other sites
Quixus
Looking great. The flames though look kinda weird. I think they should get lighter/more yellow towards the top, not the other way around. The "verdigris" on the bolter and base looks really nice. Is that one of the technical paints? jah-joshua
@Quixus: the verdigris is a mix of P3 Meredius Blue and P3 Iosan Green at a 2-1 ratio... i just used Nihilakh Oxide on the Nurgle Sorcerer... it is a much brighter aqua tone, which dries a lot chalkier... i like it, though, so i may use it rather than my custom mix from now on... as to the flames, i hear you... GW's studio style flames are cool, but i wanted to go for more realistic flames, where the color is brighter close to the source of the flame... here is the group shot for the Legion of the Damned melta squad... i had a lot of fun doing the weapon swaps on these guys... it's always nice to get a chance to make a mini unique from the stock model... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/LoTDMeltaSquad_zpscwoizceg.jpg it isn't often that i am sorry to see the end of a commission, after all the hard work that goes into it, but these guys were a rare treat to paint... i look forward to painting a couple of these guys without the restraints of time, budget, and style... here is the previous squad, just so you can see them both together;)... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/FlamerSquad_zpskcjdmpah.jpg thanks for looking... i hope you like them... cheers jah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292194-jahminis-and-now-im-making-your-silver-pants-blue/page/15/#findComment-4242028 Share on other sites
jah-joshua
hey B&C... i got my hands on a pot of the Citadel Technical Paint; Nihilakh Oxide... it is quite a nice verdifris effect paint for bronze... it does the job even better than my custom mix :(... i'll definitely be using it on my bronze from here on out, except for the Ultras, which need to match the work that has already been done... i tried it out on the Black Crusade RPG commission Sorcerer of Nurgle... i really like the bright tone this paint has, which counteracts the chalkiness that it dries with... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/NurgleSorcerer14_zpsyywcahay.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/NurgleSorcerer15_zpsnfmbuclz.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/NurgleSorcerer16_zpsvtdduozr.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/NurgleSorcerer17_zpsefblvkwx.jpg please excuse the rubbish, out of focus, pics... i can already tell that this guy is going to be tough to photograph when he's done... thanks for looking... cheers jah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292194-jahminis-and-now-im-making-your-silver-pants-blue/page/15/#findComment-4248292 Share on other sites
Kobrakei
Oxide is a great little technical paint isn't it? It can be really unforgiving though, especially due to the chalkiness you've mentioned. Blood Angels command squad by Gareth Nicholas... here is a first look at the helmets of the next Chaos Space Marines in the Black Crusade RPG commission... this is the Tzeentch Sorcerer, and his Rubric bodyguard... i still need to do some work on the eyes, and the gold needs a highlight, but i wanted to show off the feathers:)... the blue on purple works better than i thought it would... i had planned to throw some grey highlights on last, but i like the look too much to tone it down... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/BirdHelm1_zpswqo4vqyx.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/BirdHelm2_zpsqrynbhz6.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/DogHelm2_zpskxiii6sn.jpg thanks for looking... i hope you like them... cheers jah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292194-jahminis-and-now-im-making-your-silver-pants-blue/page/15/#findComment-4264016 Share on other sites
jah-joshua
hey B&C... i hope you are all enjoying a good start to the new year:)... i took step-by-step pics of the Terminator Librarian, to document my Grey Knights scheme, and shine a bit more light on how i paint steel... gold has been pretty well documented so far, but steel hasn't... this one will show my blue-steel recipe... first up, the base coats... all paints, as usual, are P3 paints from Privateer Press... the steel gets a coat of Pig Iron... the bits that will be gold, skin, parchment, or yellow get a coat of Battlefield Brown... anything that will be red gets a coat of Sanguine Base... the bookmark, loincloth, and cape get a coat of Exile Blue... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/LibbyBasecoat_zpsu9sbaqf0.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/LibbyBasecoat1_zpsht71cipf.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/LibbyBasecoat2_zps5z5vwszi.jpg to add some shadow to the mini, i mixed a 1-1 wash of Coal Black and Armor wash, cut with a little water, and slathered it all over... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/LibbyWash_zps27tirpha.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/LibbyWash1_zpsrjdb8p9i.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/LibbyWash2_zpsdg4hacrg.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/LibbyWash3_zpsr0gch32q.jpg at this point, it seems i forgot to take pictures of the original base coat colors being reclaimed and neatened up... just imagine the first set of pics with the shadows of the second set, and you get the idea ;)... once the base coats were cleaned up, i got onto the first layers, where i started to work on establishing the contrast... the armor gets a layer of Cold Steel... the blues are a 1-1 mix of Exile Blue and Cygnar Blue Base... the skin gets a layer of Khardic Flesh... the golds are a mix of 1-1 Battlefield Brown and Rhulic Gold, followed by a coat of pure Rhulic Gold... the pouches, parchments, and pages get a coat of Gun Corps Brown... the trim, even though it will be yellow gets a layer of Gun Corps Brown at this point, for ease of coverage... the book covers and ropes get a layer of Sanguine Base and Khador Red Base at 1-1... the black soft armor bits (which had been base coated Thamar Black) get a layer of Greatcoat Grey... finally, the wax seals get a layer of Sanguine Highlight... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/LibbyLayers2_zpsj9ryraak.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/LibbyLayers3_zps8urclwgp.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/LibbyLayers_zpsds4dx3or.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/LibbyLayers1_zps0itkdlol.jpg at this point, i have finished all of the hard to reach spots, so i can glue the body together... luckily, this guy goes together without any gaps, so i don't have to do any putty work after i glue the two halves... next up, i start on the lighter, brighter colors... thanks for looking... i hope you find it interesting:)... cheers jah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292194-jahminis-and-now-im-making-your-silver-pants-blue/page/15/#findComment-4279908 Share on other sites

Aluminium... the parchments get detailed with thinned Thamar Black for the lettering... the yellow is finished with a touch of Cygnus Yellow and Morrow White at 1-1... the red lenses and gems get a fine line of pure Heartfire, and then a small dot of black up top, with n even finer white dot on top of that... the blue glow is a simple progression through the P3 blues, all the way up to Arcane Blue and Morrow White at 1-5 for the lightest glowing spots... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/forum%20pics/GKLibby_zpse0nt6j7z.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/forum%20pics/GKLibby4_zpsbnsk6zzk.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/forum%20pics/GKLibby3_zpsqdzlbwpc.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/forum%20pics/GKLibby2_zpsousty9it.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/forum%20pics/GKLibby1_zpscjxcjyjm.jpg i had a lot of fun working with the new plastic Termie Librarian model... he is a worthy replacement of the classic metal one... as a multi-part plastic kit, it was easy enough to clip the storm bolter off of the spare hand that comes in the kit, and turn it into a wrist-mounted GK version... the blank shoulder pad is a seperate piece, so replacing it with a GK spare was easy-peazy... two little changes to the kit, and he looks like he was made to be a GK Libby... i took him to a local convention on Valentine's Day, and entered him in a painting contest... i was lucky enough to take home 1st place in Sci-Fi Single, and the Best of Show!!! now the new owner has an award winner on his shelf:)... http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/forum%20pics/BoS2016_zpsbhyc9u8c.jpg thanks for looking... i hope you like him, and found the step-by-step interesting... cheers jah Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292194-jahminis-and-now-im-making-your-silver-pants-blue/page/15/#findComment-4347274 Share on other sites
