JAHminis: "...and now I'm making your silver pants blue."

Recommended Posts

hey B&C...

it is Throwback Thursday in Facebooklandia again...

this week i'm throwing it back to 2009, to a mini painted for an online contest...

Pedro Kanter, Chapter Master of the Crimson Fists Space Marine Chapter...

this was the first mini where my line highliting got really tight, and i got the GW 'Eavy Metal studio style down pat...

after a couple of days of really close voting, against a very well painted Ork Warboss, this mini won...

thanks, deathspectersgt7...

i really enjoyed painting this guy...

i remember feeling like i had made a bit of a breakthrough with this model...

i'll have to do a CF Marine with more subtle transitions, more contrast, and go to town with the battle damage to see how it would look in my current style...

Happy Valentine's Day, B&C...

i hope everybody had a good one...

i finally got around to editing the Ultramarines Vindicator Linebreaker Squadron pics...

here is the middle one of the trio...

i had fun doing the hazard stripes on this one, and the black siege shield...

black looks menacing, and frames the winged swords nicely...

this is also the only one where i put the spare shell on the back...

the red warhead fits in with the client's scheme of blue, black, bronze, and red, and is also used on one of the real-world artillery rounds...

how the hell have I not looked at this thread before..........yet another "I am so dumb" momentstongue.png

seriously dude, you are made of pure champion stuff. the ultras are great, but those blood angels..........wow.

thank you, I have now found my palette for the Sons of Orar project I'm gonna do in the future.

it's also nice to see someone else who uses P3 over GW paints. props for that. wonderful work man, simply amazing.

thanks, guys...

@Bloodbath: Alaska, represent!!!

i love when my brothers in Fairbanks post about -40 , while i am sitting on the beach in Mexico;)...

Sons of Orar are one of my favorites, and one or two will be coming along one of these days...

for me, P3 are, hands down, the best paints for my painting style...

the only GW paints i am a fan of are the original ones from the 90's in P3 style pots, which are still perfectly usable today...

although, i do get some use out of the first wash set, specifically Leviathan Purple and Ogryn Flesh, for my bases...

time to put the WIP's back in the WIP thread...

here are the next two tanks on deck...

the client said that all of the tanks, so far, were starting to look to similar, so here is a bit of a change from the previous pieces...

the Rhino will be Cassius' personal ride, and the Predator is being painted as if it is drawn from the 3rd Company armory, since they fight alongside the Tyranid Hunters...

the trick will be making this tank not look like a Crimson Fists vehicle...

@Bloodbath: i think you will be stoked to see the SoO Marine i've been playing with...

it is the rare metal veteran sgt. with the power maul :)...

the tanks are coming along...

here, all of the basecoats have been cleaned up after the lining stage...

now it is time to start working on the details...

these are the last two vehicles in the queue, and then it is on to a few of the character models...

I love that model!!! is it a commission, or is it something that would be available to buy.....sad.png

on my front, I may Just bite the bullet and buy a bunch of P3 pots. and a wet pallette. and some minis, etc. etc.

loving the tanks. on a serious paint question, what P3 blues do you think would work for the old school ultramarines color scheme.

@Bloodbath: the Vet. Sgt. will be available to purchase, if i ever get around to finishing him...

the commissions never really stop rolling in...

on deck, i have to finish Dante, then do Gabriel Seth for the NOVA Open charity auction, and then 6 characters for a Black Crusade gaming group...

a custom made Angel (Chaos Daemons) army is in negotiation, and a Heresy Miniatures dragon, are in negotiation...

loads of really cool models to come:)...

as to paints, this is my first time painting Ultramarines, and the client asked for a darker blue...

on the Predator, he has asked for something that doesn't just look like the rest of the tanks i've painted so far, so i am trying a 1-1 mix of P3 Exile Blue and Cygnar Blue Highlight...

we'll see how it works out...

here are the latest WIP pics of the last two vehicles in the Ultramarines commission...

i have lightened the blue a bit...

hopefully, the decals should make it look Ultramarines enough, because this is as light as i'm going with this blue...

the scroll on the front of the Rhino should give me a nice canvas to do some more detailed Gothic lettering, much more than a little mini does...

hey B&C...

here are the last WIP pics of these two tanks...

they just need a couple of finishing touches tonight, and then they will be ready to go in the mail...

the Rhino needs the lettering detailed a little more, and then i will distress the scroll...

the Predator needs to be glued together (which is why one sponson is sagging...doh!!!), and have a bit more weathering...

in the end, i think the blue and red has turned out alright...

@deathspectersgt7: thanks, bud:)...

it is Throwback Thursday!!!

this time i have Vulkan He'stan, the Forgefather of the Salamanders Space Marine Chapter...

this is another Gamer's Series model, from 2009, where i recreate the 'Eavy Metal studio's paintjobs using P3 paints...

green is my favorite color, so i had a lot of fun painting this guy...

the subtle green scales on the armor were the best bit to play with:)...

hey B&C...

here is the first look at the final version of the last two tanks in this phase of the Ultramarines commission...

my client wanted something a bit different from the previous vehicles i painted for this army, so the Predator has been painted in the 3rd Company scheme, since they fight alongside the Tyranid Hunters veterans...

the lighter blue, and strong red, will stand out from the rest of the vehicles...

instead of going with pure P3 Exile Blue, i went with a 1-1 mix of EB and P3 Cygnar Blue Highlight, and a final line-highlight of pure CBH...

going with the Rhino as Cassius' personal ride has given it a nice menacing look in that black...

adding the Tyranid shoulder plates was a fun touch, and getting to paint bigger lettering was a refreshing change...

the larger than normal surface to paint letters onto gave me a chance to go more Gothic with my font...

hey B&C...

here are the final pics of Cassius' Rhino...

this tank was a nice change from all of the blue i have been painting for the last few months...

black is usually pretty unforgiving, but the style i have chosen to paint this in makes for a quick, good looking tabletop paintjob...

now i just need to paint up Cassius himself to ride in it...

thanks, guys...

sorry for the brief absence...

after a week off to pack up, move to L.A., and unpack again (since my passport was expiring yesterday), i am back to work...

here are the final pics of the Predator that i painted for the Strike Force Cassius Ultramarines army commission...

the client wanted something a bit different from the Tyranid Hunter Veteran tanks that i had painted...

i went with the 3rd Company, since they are known to fight alongside the Veterans...

the color placement is different, but it sticks to the client's brief of dark blue, black, red, and bronze...

hey B&C...

i totally forgot Throwback Thursday the last couple of weeks, since my schedule has been all out-of-whack with the packing, and the move...

i'll get back to that next week...

until then, here is my next piece in the Ultramarines commission...

Chief Librarian Tigurius, the ugliest Librarian sculpt ever...

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/Tigi_zps6qrzxehu.jpg

i have to say, now that i have started working with it, i hate Finecast...

now i know that i was right to steer well clear of this material before...

it is full of holes, warped, and rubbery...

i'll stick with plastic, metal, and proper resin for my own collection...

cheers

hey B&C...

here are the first two stages of Tigurius...

i started with lighter basecoats than usual, trying to figure out what i wanted to do with this guy...

afterwards, i gave it all a heavy wash of Vallejo Smoke, which pretty much made the light basecoats pointless...

this just goes to show that i should stop trying to switch up my painting style, and just go from light to dark, as i like to do...

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/jah-minis/wips/Tigi1_zpskpuhpt1z.jpg

here i have cleaned up the blue armor, laid down the red, retouched the scrolls, and given the tabard a nice solid base for the yellow...

i finished the armor, and am on to painting my least favorite color, yellow...

i got a bit tired of looking at this guy, and started on Sgt. Chronus...

pics of him coming in a day or two...
