Help me choose next army (traitor)

Recommended Posts

So as I'm rounding out my 1st Legion now (although an army is technically never done, I will do more) I've been looking to return to the traitor side ;)

Now I have a dilemma, I'm debating between returning to my World Eaters or do a Word Bearers army.

I thought of doing a combined force for a shadow crusade kinda deal but decided that would be ineffective as I'd have essentially 3 HQs minimum and 3 troops minimum. I don't have any problem with troops...but they get to be a pain to paint and I like all the flashy things the legions have.

Here's what I'm looking at for the theme of both sides:

Word Bearers:

-Very fast assaulty army

- Diabolist for sure, maybe Erebus?

-Gal Vorbak (man these are sexy

-Assault squads as troops

-I really like that red wine colored scheme with markings

World Eaters:

-Khârn, no ifs ands or buts

-he's going to lead a squad of veterans armed with furious charge and some power weapons, chainaxes, and meltas

- their paint scheme is sexy when done right

-more armored warfare, land raiders, Sicarans, and vindicators

- I *love* those new bunny helmets

So help me decide brothers..it's really tough deciding

*Can Word Bearers even be taken as a detachment? They need 2 HQs minimum for their legion rules, but the FOC only permits one

I'm not a big fan of the tap-dancing Ashen Circle, but that's just me. The same goes for the skipping Red Butchers.

I'd say go with the Word Bearers. Perhaps a full army of them with Khârn and his retinue attached as allies? That would fit the fluff nicely.

Seventeenth Legion, not Word Bearers.

Imagine, an army of ash grey Iconoclasts falling from the sky, tearing down everything counter to the Imperial Truth.

Fire is bright, and fire is clean.

See I thought of that, but I like when they're in deep with chaos and have the Gal Vorbak and that rich wine color.

I was thinking that but I'd then have 3 HQ choices haha and it might be an unwieldy list at 2000 points

Bah. Everybody and their grandmother will be running the Gal Vorbak, whether for 30k or 40k, when they come out.

Nobody's got the guts to do an Army of Iconoclasts. *throws down gauntlet*

Doest I smell a challenge?

...or is that the wafting smell of yon library in flames?

Can anyone find that sexy grey paint job someone did a while back?

It has to be good enough to challenge this: http://battlebunnies.blogspot.mx/2014/07/legions-on-parade-tom-leu-word-bearers.html

I've definitely narrowed it down to Word Bearers now (at least as a primary force).

Must be sad getting a World Eater Chain axe cleaving you while knowing you'll never be remembered as all your history is being burned to dust...

Personally, (and I can't believe I'm saying this), but I'd actually lean away from the granite grey of the old Word Bearers, and aim for the ash-grey of the Ashen Circle...

If you asked Forgeworld, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to share their recipe. They've done so in the past. :)

Dang. You made me write a fluff piece now. Here's a monument to your sins :P :

Ana' Sin' Emid released the catches on his burdensome helmet to breath in the pyre of a thousand cities. He had done so on each world the XVIIth legion graced with its fiery presence. The smell was a nostalgic one, it reminded Emid of crackling wood fires he had sat near in the distant past of his childhood.

"Damn english...they could have just accepted the Word and kept all they hold dear still. Now they will be erased from history and all they love will be ash."

Emid turned to the voice of his battle brother, Set, and saw him cleaning off his axe rake.

"English?" Emid queried with a raised eyebrow.

Sounds of rolling thunder bubbled out of Set's chest as he chuckled. "Sorry brother, old habits die hard. Despite our training I still can't change who I am," he replied in his slow Mennon drawl.

Though Set was pulled from what seemed to be a backwards people back on Terra, Emid couldn't help but admire his axe work. Flocks of unbelievers were cut down by his axe-rake like wheat before a scythe, and whole fonts of knowledge were burned by his hand like chaff in a furnace.

Trudging through the ashes of a local repository, Emid's foot struck the charred remains of a book, sending puffs of black onto his armor. Bending down he peered at the book, paused for a second, then laughed. He then took the book and lashed it to his greave as was custom among the Immolators of the 41st company.

Before activating his jump pack, Set caught a glance of the book's name, what was left of the charred remains, and couldn't help but smile at the irony.

In low Gothic it read:

Fah-enhe-it 451

I like blowing :cuss up, and tearing down everything you hold dear with finely crafted mathematical equations weighted in death and ammunition usage ratios. Unshakable discipline, wrapped around a core of desperate violence and traumatic mental disorders.

Taa daa, Iron Warriors.

The question you gotta ask yourself is, who are you? What is your absolute core of your being? What Legion's lore and customs speak directly to your heart?

Answer that, and you have your answer.

The Heresy is vast. The Legions are vast. The lines of loyalty are shades of grey.

Choose the Legion that fits your ideology. But craft your Battalion after you.

If that makes you a Loyalist Word Bearer, then it does. A pyromaniac, anarchist Raven Guard with no sense of loyalty, then that's who you are. A traitor Moriat Blood Angel wrapped in wings of fire and blackened granite, then you have made the right choice.

Why should it be worrying? Consider that the Warhammer universe has no "Good" guys per say. I mean look at the Blue Space Commie Weeabos, they got reworked to being less "We love everyone and everything is for the better!" to what I just called them, all with a decent helping of Grimdark.

Just because they're "Traitors" doesn't mean they're bad...Unless your Demons. Then it gets harder to define...

And to go along with Heathens: I like Charging into the Fray, while also being able to or having the option to Stay back and hold the line. I'm a rather Stubborn person. I'm likely to tell the honest truth more than not, I also value both teamwork and the ability to get -sh- done yourself when needed. I also prefer to hit hard and heavy rather than the opposite. Self Control is key.

While you can find parts of the above in a lot of Legions, it mostly came together under the Banner of Dorn and the VIIth legion for me.

So really, if you want to absolutely cement yourself into one Legion and only that legion (for a while, lets be honest its really hard to stick to only ONE of them), then you need to get self-analytical and then examine your options to the fullest but to not be afraid of realizing that you might  be more in-tune with a legion you dislike than some of those you fancy.
