Marqol
I think the last one is a bit too square, is a bit Lizardman style. The flame canister looks amazing, I am very envious of your green stuff work ^^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294275-salamanders/page/2/#findComment-3855307 Share on other sites

Ashmantle
@Marqol Thank you. @Noctem Cultor Thanks. The inspiration for that detail actually comes from artwork in the Codex. @ppotts Thank you. @daemonclaw Thanks. Progress is really slow as of late, in part because I couldn't decide what to do for the squad markings on the right shoulder pad. At the moment I think I'll go with a flame in the centre with either a variation of the crossed arrows, or crossed hammers. Not sure yet how to integrate the squad's number into that, if at all. If you have a suggestion for that, i would love to hear it! On to the interesting part, the pictures: I'm really happy with that little hammer, it was surprisingly easy to make. The disc with the flame on it needs some more details, at the moment it is way to plain. Maybe some really small rivets. As with the disc, the anvil might benefit from some details, though I'm not sure what exactly. The flame on the shoulder pad is the current state of the squad marking I mentioned above. The hammers need some more work. I was thinking about something similar to these for the squad marking, either a small version in one of the corners, or a bigger version with the flame at the point were they cross. I also started to modify some helmets, the first is inspired by the Iron Priest of the Space Wolves, the second is my attempt to create a MK IV variant, the rest are inspired by one of the helmets from Forgeworlds MK IV Assault Squad and the Son of Horus in the Conquest preview. I may have to either reposition or redo the emblem on the bolt pistol. Or try to modify the casing... probably the latter, if that fails I can still do one of the former. I couldn't get a good angle for a photo of the flame on the tanks. The company number on the kneepad is a glued on copy of the one I did for Mir'san. I'll have to add a thin layer of green stuff around it, so it doesn't look quite as tacked on as it does now. C&C is, as always, welcome. Flint13
First off, everyone on here is running out of ways to tell you that your green stuff skills are unfairly, inhumanly good. Just so you know :P Secondly, does this guy: On to the interesting part, the pictures: I'm really happy with that little hammer, it was surprisingly easy to make. The disc with the flame on it needs some more details, at the moment it is way to plain. Maybe some really small rivets. ... have a tiny, thunder hammer charm bracelet? B/c if so he might just be my favorite Salamander ever :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294275-salamanders/page/2/#findComment-3871690 Share on other sites

Twisty
Absolutely beautiful work. I thought I couldn't get get more hyped about rebooting my Salamanders (30k this time around ) but I´m glad you proved me wrong. Super inspirational stuff Ashmantel, craftsmanship definitely worthy of a Salamander Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294275-salamanders/page/2/#findComment-3872022 Share on other sites
Ashmantle
@KBAThanks.@Dark RageThank you.@BLOODSAINTThanks.@Flint13Thanks. Well it is a small hammer hanging from a chain from his shoulderpad (inspired by one of these). It lacks the generator to be a thunder hammer, although now I'm really tempted to add that...@ApologistThank you.@TwistyThank you. Small update: I raised the main body of the anvil a bit and sanded some of the other areas a bit down. The hammers need a bit more work, but overall I'm pretty happy with it. I may have to reposition the heads a bit. Added some detail to the flame on his chest and integrated the company number on his knee a bit better. The hammers on his backpack got some additional detail and he got his company number. I had to redo some of the salamander hide, so that it lies over the numeral. Company number and some detail on the disc. I think the helmet just needs a bit cleaning, then it's done. C&C welcome. Flint13
@Flint13 Thanks. Well it is a small hammer hanging from a chain from his shoulderpad (inspired by one of these). It lacks the generator to be a thunder hammer, although now I'm really tempted to add that... Do it! It would be the world's tiniest thunder hammer. Just like cops carry small caliber back-up pistols ^_^ As for the rest of your work (especially that awesome sculpty helm at the bottom) I'm out of synonyms for amazing. Please accept my condolences. Firepower
Who the bloody hell gave you permission to be this awesome? It's just rude! How am I supposed to look at my models now that I know what could've been if I only had your skills?! Seriously, the sculpting is superb to the point of ludicrosity. But there is room for improvement in your painting. The green in particular could use a bit more definition. I wouldn't recommend highlighting past what you have, as it's already very bright, but a shading it a bit with a wash (light or dark brown, I would think) could work quite well. It looks better on the Dread, because you'redealing with large, flat panels, but the Power Armor has a lot of nooks and crannies. BrotherCaptainArkhan
Your greenstuff skills are out of this world, man. I would love to see you do a DIY of your own inspiration, you could do some really killer stuff. Not that these guys aren't great, by the way. Can't wait to see them painted, Salamanders are rarely done this well. Ovidius Incertus
The greenstuffing is absurd! Such detail! But I really like the simple little touch you've added to the flamers by adding that nozzle. What size plastic tubing did you stick in there? Ashmantle
@Pearson73Thanks.@ChaeronThank you.@00branchowThanks.@Flint13Thank you.@Firepower Thanks, I'll try to keep that in mind when I paint my next Salamander. @BrotherCaptainArkhanThank you. Should I ever come up with my own chapter, I'll be sure to show them here.@Ovidius IncertusThanks. It is 2mm in diameter. I haven't gotten much done since the last update, but here is what progress I made: The little hammer now has a generator, once it is cured I'll have to see if I can get the edges a little more defined. The marking on the leg is, again inspired by Forgeworld, this time by artwork from Imperial Armour 10. It's still missing most of its head. I repositioned the hammerhead on the right a bit. Another little disc, still wip. I'm not sure yet if I'll put it on the left shoulder of the marine shown above, or if I'll keep it for another one. C&C welcome. Ashmantle
Progress continues to be slow. At this rate the Assault Marines are going to end up part of my first vow for this years ETL... The head got a bit bigger than originally planned, so I started to bulk up the body, and then decided to try myself at some limbs for the little monster. The rest of the body needs some more work, especially since the legs messed with the original design quite a bit. After comparing the Chapter symbols from the Assault Marines with those I managed on the captain I decided to try again and get a bit closer to those on Mir'san. Two mostly done, two yet to (re)do... I have to admit, I'm rather proud of the flames. Though I will probably leave the other side bare. Next I will try to do a lower jaw, teeth, some scales and something as of yet undecided on the top of the dragonhead. The horns on the back need some more work too... Since I won't start to paint the Assault Marines anytime soon, I decided to start the second Apothecary from Forgeworld: And for a bit of variety I did some Legion of the Damned: The Legionaries are almost done, some more WIP pictures are in my gallery. TerraZero20
I am loving your work on the Salamanders. I can't wait to see how they look once completed. Only little criticism I have, and I don't know if it's the camera or my screen but the green paint job on the first page looked a little too bright. But apart from that, I love everything.
