Perfection and Glory - Full Army Shot!

Finished the Support squad, then realized I had mixed the last of my Abaddon Black to make my dark grey...so the base edges will have to wait.

Also got cracking on to the next project, the remaining two Contemptors for the Talon! The CCW & Chainfist dread still needs pinning to his base and both need some minor dremel work to give them a more battered look. Oh and some Eye of Horus gem things!

Finally at the stage that I am ready to paint, I got a dud Volkite arm where the barrel is not perfectly rectangular and my meager skills could not fix it without snapping. I might just paint that up to look like it has been struck by something at some point. I also threw a Master of Signals together which I will be using for my next escalation game, he is barebones and will basically use his Orbital Bombardment and then give my Caliver squad the +1 BS for the game.

I went into my local GW to get some more black and washes...I must've been living under a rock because these just appeared in the store out of nowhere! This has to be the greatest thing GW has done in a while biggrin.png

XVIth Legion, 32nd Company
Aetar Squad, Volkite Support

By the time of the late Crusade era Volkite weaponry had been almost completely superseded due to the high cost in material and knowledge to maintain them and the ease of which the Bolter could be manufactured for the ever growing Legions, Aetar squad was fortunate enough to be armed with the remaining Calivers of the 32nd Company. Tasked with the capture and securing of objectives behind the main advancing force of the 32nd, they were employed as an long range anti-infantry unit.

With the reconquest of Choral City, Aetar Squad seemed perfectly suited to countering the massed infantry of the Istvaan military. Deployed by drop pod alongside Dakkon-Alpha Squad, they were hard pressed to hold against the armoured assets withheld in the Barracks and Armoury...

Pretty happy with the quality and quantity of finished models since the start of the year so will be definitely be pushing this momentum for the rest of the year biggrin.png I still have a whole bunch of Sons of Horus armour to complete, a full Sub-orbital Strike Wing, six more Cerastus to start and my Emperors Children to touch up and then build on further down the line...

Fantastic looking SoH!  Those Contemptors have fantastic poses too, very well done! I find working with those legs an absolute nightmare and you've done it so effortlessly - looking forward to seeing them completed.

Thanks man! Contemptor legs can be a bit fiddly but patience really pays off in the end, the kit has such mobility and potential it would be a shame to leave them in a static BaC pose.

Thanks man, keen to see more of your Reavers and Justaerin

All that glorious, glorious choom. I want to say 'me gusta', but I'm not sure if anyone would get that meme anymore... :P

Haha somehow I ended up with more volkite then bolter, not a bad effort!

Has anyone heard anything about Forgeworld doing House Aerthegn transfers in the future?

Sent an email to Forgeworld so will see what they say. In the mean time I have started blocking in the colours on my Dreads and MoS and worked some more on my Lancer.

Spent some time working on the Dreads today, all basecoating and tidying up is done. Next is transfers! I got an email back from Forgeworld about the House Ærthegn transfers....very unenlightening sadly. I will have to either hold off on doing my Knights in hopes of a transfer sheet in the far, far future or freehand...

Transfers and weathering complete, oils next then sealing them and effects to add!

Also pulled my next project out, I was back and forward between doing the Sicaran, Deredeo or dual Executioner Preds but ended up deciding to round out the Dreads first before tackling the tanks.

Just small details (lenses, Eye of Horus gems, Volkite coils etc) and bases and they are done...I got a bit excited after I sealed the Dreads after oils....here is a preemptive shot of the Talon!

  • 2 weeks later...

@Thousand Eyes: Definitely not, I played a couple of 1000point ZM games using the whole talon plus my Box dread...lets just say they were unstoppable and won me the game hands down!

I finished up the remaining Contemptors a week or so back but the picture taking situation is really bugging me. Using just my iphone, even with dedicated photo apps, was literally ripping my soul from me. So, I bought a camera online. Until then I won't take the proper individual shots of the Contemptors and their fluff as I feel the photos are not really doing the models justice. As you can see the quality of my iphone camera has significantly deteriorated since I started using it:

I also completed my Master of Signals who will be used as my HQ in the next Escalation League game (Support Officer is removed until our 1500pt game)

gallery_81212_9961_543489.jpg

And my next addition to the SoH will be a Deredeo, while I was building this guy I thought to myself "how fun are Dreads to put together"...I ALMOST went ahead and ordered another Deredeo and a Leviathan, but the Financial Advisor got to me first!

I might pledge this guy for ETL...

Small update!

gallery_81212_9961_721756.jpg

Got started on the dark metals on the Sicaran...

gallery_81212_9961_1151798.jpg

And a shot of what the Deimos looks like with Blood and Skulls Liberator tracks, figured it might be helpful for someone since I had a hard time actually finding any Rhinos on the interwebz with these particular tracks.

The Sicaran's looking pretty dang good. I've been a fan of your color scheme for a while, it's very distinctive for a Sons of Horus force.

Side note: how are the Blood and Skulls tracks? I've heard mixed reports about the Rhino size ones, and was curious as to know your opinion.
