Well, its been a while... I opted out of the September vow for the Tale of 18 hobbyists and went instead with this little lot for my October vow.

Anyways, what I am working on for a tale of 18 hobbyists....

Okay doke then,

I dantay_xv, have risen from the red snow to pledge to The Allfather and Russ an army of 2000 points or more..

For my first pledge it will be a 10 man assault unit. 1 power weapon, 9 marines with melta bombs.. Sergeant with artificer armour, power weapon and melta bomb for 320 points.

Centurion with Chaplain upgrade, Terminator upgrade, 120 points, will upgrade to thunder hammer, but not sure if allowed, otherwise, the TH will just be a stylized crozius. :smile.:

Glory to the 6th

I am a bit annoyed that I have lost one of my mark 3 assault marines, so a mark 5 has stepped in for now, however he will go back to his parent squad when I can either find the missing guy or come up with another mark 3 replacement :smile.:

And this is where I am up to just now

A quick PIP and I warn you now, the gold is horrifically messy, but do not fear, masking and covering up with the  grey and black will fix it right up.

Also let me know what you think of the reds!!

Tomorrow is steel and clean up, should be getting to the home stretch

Should I do red face plate and black helmet top like the terminators or red face plate but grey helmet top??

Thanks Bladewolf. The red faceplates will stay. The red faceplates came about from IA11 where many of the Wolves would paint the snouts of their helms red to show they had been "blooded" in battle.

I think it helps get their feral nature across without disrupting the model too much :)

That could be arranged when I get home.

I have all my models out on a table just now, so I could see what needs painted and what needs fixed. I could do a photo of the table and then do some more detailed shots.

You want the 30K contingent, the 40K Sons of Russ or the while shebang??

Looking at it, I need to get some Storm Grr flyers and a bunch of drop pods

Well for 40K we are talking.

6x 10 man Grey Hunter packs

3x 14 man Blood Claw packs

3x 5 man Long Fang packs

3x 6 man Swift Claw packs

1x 10 man Sky Claw packs

6x 5 man terminator packs

2x Dreanoughts

2x 5 man scout packs

5x 3man Thunder Wolf Cavalry packs

18 character models

10(ish) PA Wlf Guard

For 30K

5x 5 man terminator packs

1x 19 man Assault marine packs

1x 5 man Recon pack

1x 10 man Breacher pack

Vehicle pool:

6x Land Raiders, various types

1x Fellblade

1x Fire Raptor

2x Knights, Acheron & Castigator

2x Drop Pods

1x Rhino

2x Vindicator

2x Predator Annhilator

1x Whirlwind

Oh and I have a batch more stuff on the way (I hope)

Should be quite a few pictures :biggrin.:

I hasten to add it is about 80% unpainted :sad.:

Sounds like my predicament, Dantay!! I too would still love to see the whole army!!

I've been thinking of doing to same with mine, as a form of motivation (hopefully) to get on with all of the painting I need to achieve. You're not along, brother!!

I love the grey top / red face plate look as well. It's such a great contrast and adds a nice focal point to the model.

Keep up the good work, I always like stopping into your thread and seeing what you're working on!!

End of Line

Thanks RPR. Glad to know I am not the only one afflicted.. I keep threatening to stop buying models and get an airbrush, so I can speed through them, but it never happens... :biggrin.:

I am making slow headway with my Assault marines, I'll explain why in a bit.

Anyway a group shot.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151012_224517.jpg

As you can see I have included the recon marines who still sit unfinished. It was actually a bit embarassing. I had to stop painting last time out because I had run out of Black paint, dim-wit eh?

Now for squad shots

Recon Squad, unknown designation...

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151012_224809.jpg

Squad leader is far right, Muscles is in the middle and the tracker is just to his left. I am envisioning doing the base of Tracker with a wee bit of rubble and blood spater trailing away. If I get fluff done for them anytime soon, you will learn why

Centre Recon Marine (Muscles) has been named Hjold Halfborn, by Brother SP

First 5 Assault Marines

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151012_224609.jpg

Centre Marine has been named Kiaran Coldheart after the Aett's favourite Wolf Lord

Second 5 Assault Marines

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151012_224720.jpg

Second from the right has been chosen by The Psycho, name to follow :)

If you are curious about the blue on the axes, it is to help me work out where the light and shadow are for when I paint them tomorrow.

Now for some bits I am quite happy with.

Faces. Considering most of my 40K Wolves have bare heads as do the Recon Marines, I find them quite hard to do, so I am pretty proud of these 2. They look a darn sight better than in the pics, light seems to have washed them out a bit. They ar 95% done, and next will be the hair. If run in 40K they can be jump pack Wlf Guard, or Sky Claws, the bare head will be the Pack Leader :biggrin.: Old dog leading young pups

An unfortunate accident meant he quite literally lost his hand.... And I have no idea where it has gone to, so now he has one hand :biggrin.:

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151012_225055.jpg

Quite a few of my Mark 2 Marines are wearing these on their arms, I was wanting a bit of advice. Should I leave them gold, or should I leave the trim & runes gold, but do the inlay another colour? Grey to match the armour, or black or maybe red??

Last thing.

None of these guys have names.... Except 1, The Mark 3 with the big axe... I am thinking to name him, Kiaran Coldheart. Shout out to fellow Wolf Lord WLK :biggrin.:

Anyhoo, I would like to invite folks to pick a pack member and name him. I am going to open tis up to the tale of 18 hobbyist guys also, so if you do not get t name 1 there is plenty more. Next month is tank month though

Hopefully the painting has stayed true to the only piece of HH Wolf artwork we have.

Anyways let me know what you think

Edited by dantay_xv

Maybe they stole them from Prospero :P

Yes, I did think it looked slightly off, but wanted other opinions.... Should the inlay match the armour & go grey then?

They ended up gold due to my really messy paint style, I cant do fine bits without spatterin pain all over, so I figured to do gold then if it needed it, add the inlay. Much easier :)

Another brief update.... Had a crack at trying out coloured metals. To represent the blades being forged in the Ice of Fenris.

Was a third attempt and I am reasonably happy. The 3 big learning points for me were that:

1. it is much harder to do this effect on axes than swords.

2. It is much harder to pull off at small scale compared to large scale.

3. It is pretty time consuming doing it by hand.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151014_121440.jpg

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151014_121655.jpg

Also the facing of the axe dictated where the light and dark would fall which made things pretty tricky to gauge. Hopefully it looks alright... These are still messy and a work in progress.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151014_121505.jpg

I think it needs a touch oh mithril silver on the tips and also where the cutting edge meets the face for a bit more definition.

However a new conundrum has arisen:

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151014_121548.jpg

What to do with the centre sections of the axes? I was thinking a black metal look, but not sure. I do not want to do the centre sections in gold, I may reserve that for the swirlies... Any ideas??

The hands arent too bad.

I was getting annoyed because the dwarf armour overlaps the back of the hand a wee bit.

I just cut below the elbow & pinned it. You could fill in the chainmail section to make it fit the armour though.

Looks like partial up-armpuring to mark 3 :)

Your using the lower half of the dwarf arms? May have to give that a try. I've been shaving the hand off the handle and drilling out the Marine hands to hold the weapons. Was wondering where you got the bracers from.

Good looking Wolf Guard. With the red face shields they look like they're from Bran Redmaw's Great Company.

Have a good time dirt side.

Really great work Dantay, I love the work gone into each one. I have a couple of those Dwarf axes and this makes me more confident about using them, so thanks. I also have to support the vote to see a full army pic, as a fellow slow painter I sympathise, but would love to see what you have unpainted or not.

Your wish is my command.... Behold my man-cave!!!

I apologise for the blurry photos, shaky hands and using a mobile phone... There are plans for this space, oh yes.. My recliner is in here just now because it doesnt fit in the family room, but wifey wants me to get shot of my faithful corner sofa, so yes, it will make its way to the cave eventually. I als hope to get myself a proper gaming table at some point too, now I have a home for one.

For years I havent done anything with scenery because I have had nowhere to put it, so maybe now is a good time to learn??

Anyways army stuff.

Any ideas how to strip these bikes back to components, or atleast get rid of the bad paint job? Picked them up last year for abt £8 including a 10th biker on sprue.

Sorry for the ropey pictures!!

What to work on next eh?!?

I use Super Clean for stripping paint, also breaks down super glue without damage to the plastic. Have soaked some resin buts with out issue as well. Definitely use gloves with it. Look for a purple jug among other automotive degreasers.

Nice army, can see why it needs it's own room. Which pack is up for paint next? Have you figured what you want for your TDA harpoons?
