Cool, yes the red has had a wash of drakehof to shade it and will be brightened up, plus green lenses all the way. I always imagine that with gold pinned eyes, green lenses (like night vision being a greenish hue) always made sense.

I do have a small problem though. Russ just arrived, so do I halt everything and work on the Lord of Winter and war or do I keep him in stasis until I get my other bits and pieces done?

Riku, maybe I should just knuckle down and get my other stuff done, Russ can be the reward :)

Want to have a Russ-off?

In the meantime:

A bit of hacking, a bit of chopping, some greenstuffing and borrowing my wife's hairdryer

And the pig is almost complete. Dubbed the Pig, because it has been an absolute pig to build.

It has sat unloved and half built for the best part of a year on my dsk as I hav picked at it and then put it down deeming it too much hassle to work on.

She was one step away from getting diced up and turned to scenery, but as I cut into it, something half-way miraculous happened.

The Pig finally took shape.

Here she is:

The Aquila on the front is going to go, as it was not n common use during the Heresy, engine bits still to be added

The body is slightly twisted and not symmetrical, but overall it is okay, need to fill some gaps and straighten up the missile pods

Talking of missile pods, I lost the bits for them, so fortunately I had some FW sprue bits to hand which will hopefully do the job, What do you think? Too tall?

So yeah, tons still to do, but a lot of progress form the wreck on my desk. Te Fenryka irfoce is slowly gathering strength

I think there should be a health warning on the Forge World website about both the Storm Eagle and the Fire Raptor...

I've never built a Storm Eagle but my Fire Raptor was seriously tough to build. Once built though they do look seriously cool!

Darned right Carrick, however I am now tempted to get a second one, just t see if I can do it better the second time around.I dunno, once I got some tracton going it was quite cahartic ... Sometimes I wonder if there is something wrong with me hahaha..... :s

Cody, while I want to get to Russ, now!! I do have a huge backload of bits.... Of which are these guys amongst others.

How about these bad boys?

Haha I know what you mean I caught myself considering a Storm Eagle the other day....

Sorry for taking so long to reply..... I think I might go to ebay and buy a pre-built one, save all the heartache,

Been a bit quiet lately.

Decided that to heck with it I am going to have a crack at the big man himself. I only have 3 models which I cannot paint as 40K Wolves, so everything else is set aside in preparation for ETL, I decided to bump them to the front of the queue.

Also apologies for the tiny pictures.. Photobucket issues again.

This is the third attempt and now quite happy with he metallic, still not 100% on the sword. I haven't done the glazes yet though... It might help pull the sword together. Not even sure I want to glaze the axe (blue like the swords and siege breaker hammer) Trying Stormcast silver for the first time and man does the light really bounce off of it.

Still a lot of tidy up to do.

Plus what colours should I do the centre of the axe??

Thanks for looking :)

I have to say Russ is very concentration intensive as there are so many little bits and pieces. Almost at fatigue point with him and it is starting to sow in a few areas where I am saying "screw it". Might take a night off from painting to recharge the old batteries

So where were we??

Well, just doing some odds and sods

Gave the sword a glaze, not sure if I was a bit heavy-handed with it. Noticed FW gave the sword a purple tint, so tried the same.

What do you think?

Also, decided to not spend too much more time on areas which will be hidden away, so this happened.

Not sure about the shield, might swap the gold and bronze around.

Let me know what you think.  Thanks for looking :)

Thanks Graymane!!

This model is te closest I have come to a kitbash.

The main model is the chaplain from Betrayal at Calth.

For the left arm i cut it at the elbow and rotated it 90 degrees I also removed the plasma pistol and replaced it with a sword.

The right ar, I cut off at the elbow and sculpted the soft armour joint. Then I used a dwarf forearm and again added a sword.

I used putty to put for on the cloak and cut off the head which I replaced with the FW tank crew head.

Lastly I cut off the scrolls on his right leg, but I still need to add a pistol there to cover the damage.

Go for it.

If I was better at kit bashing, I would have poitioned the right arm in a relaxed pose holding an axe and swapped the plasma pistol in the left hand for a pointing hand, as if challenging as enemy.

Or a downward pointing hand "You.  Here.  Now!!" kind athing

Thank you Maverik.

As many folks know I work offshore. I often joke that I go offshore to get peace and quiet from my family life :D

The truth is quite different. I miss my family. I can't see them or be with them, all I can really do is talkwith them via wechat or the phone. Offshore you are in a cocoon, Still a part of teh world but very much apart frm it

So I focus on my models and put all my thought of family into them. There is generally a vast difference in quality between those I paint at  home and those I do when I am away.

I missed Christmas with my family and I missed my sons birthday and he asked why I focus so much on my models, so I told him that I put all my thoughts and energy thinking about my family into them..... And now Russ is done, I have given it to him, ..

Anyway enough rambling, time fr pictures.

The shield was okay, but I was concerned that the bronze outer section would blend too much with the bronze olf heads, so by using a  gold outer section it would break all the bronze colour up.

Anyway, with Russ done it is time to go back and finish up the half-done projects.

So time to get the wrecking crew done

Btw, any unique markings that the templars would have on their armour??

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170216_203850.jpg

Also, struggling with base ideas... I had considered cutting the BoP boards up and then scoring the designs, however I do not think it will work

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170216_204323.jpg

I am not keen on  the 40K bases as they are not Prosperine enough and I am not sure of the AoS bases.

Any ideas ?

  • 2 weeks later...

As Russ is now done and Inferno is out.. And the postie delivered my book 2 hours after I left to come out here for 3 blimmin' weeks grrrr... I decided to dive back into painting again

Made a start on Geigor. One thing I learned from Russ is that with ornate armouir, the least stressful way to paint is to do the base armour colour first and then do the details. That way you do not have to get paranoid about ruining the armour you have lovingly painted and can come back in and tidy it all up towards the end.

So behold my messy Geigor!!!

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20170301_221316.jpg

So should I do Geigor with greying hair as he is in BoP, or should I go Ginger, like the artwork in the visions of heresy art books??

Thanks for looking :smile.:
