Thanks cody.

I work up from a dark metal to runefang steel.

I then use a guillemann blue and ardcoat mix to give the blade some colour and then catch the edges with runefang

Not made too much more progress, but almost at the point of deciding whether to do some knotwork on the armour, or chipping.

or both or neither? The model is already fairly detailed, I do not want it looking cluttered

Hi guys,

So I got off the rig a week ago, and thank goodness for my models or I would have gotten divorced.

Had a really stressful week helping my wife study for her Masters degree and we are not yet through the first semester!!

What have I been working on??

Corax, maybe my favourite loyalist primarch sculpt so far.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20161122_214914.jpg

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20161122_214926.jpg

Took a day to do, mainly due to the pesky feathers snapping off the backpack wings and me trying to glue them back on. It was a ham-fisted ffair and I do not mind telling you a few few expletive deleteds were uttered during construction...

I also got my breachers filled out from 10 to 20 men...

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20161122_215039.jpg

The Templars are a tribute to Bladewolf

Since the picture was taken I have finished off the vexilla and repaired the vox.

There was also this motley crew

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20161122_214953.jpg

There is a good reason why they have lost their heads!!

I want to sculpt some norse style helms from these

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20161122_231303.jpg

My sills are below novice so any tips or help would be most gratefully appreciated.

BCKs wolf from a good while bac is my main inspiration!!

Lastly

Which head looks best for an Iron Priest??

Thanks for looking

I got some metallic black, from Vallejo, so thinking of giving that a go... But what colours for the traitor should I go for?? Was thinking emperors Children or Word Bearer for something different!

As for your hate, no wonder you are going all Iron Warrior-y.

Sounds like we need to call the Wolf Priests over and drain you of all this ill-blood via our Fenrisian leeches ;)

Spent the morning trying to sculpt the hems then ave up, gs will not stick to anything but me!!

Chopped the nose off the IF helms which looks okay and used some IW helms... Gonna have to use paint to hide the hems origins (especially the AL ones)

The afternoons were taking my son to get his hearing tested. His hearing was perfect so n more damned excuses fr not ding as he is told.

This evening I have been reviewing my wifes report on case law, for her degree. Trying to get it down from 2900 to 2500 words. Who would have though that legal-ese would be so complex?? Got it down to just under 2600 words

Hopefully have something worth showing tomorrow!!

I have been a busy boy.

Got my banner bearer for Colours of War done completely done!!

Debating whether to put this on the backpack to finish it off, or if it is done.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20161129_194813.jpg

I have also been working on helms for my assault team...

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20161125_195611.jpg

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20161125_195703.jpg

It is a mix of Imperial Fist, Iron Warrior & Alpha Legion helms.

I am having loads of trouble trying to get the helms looking norse, so I may end up using paint to achieve what I cannot do with green stuff.

Case in point is this:

I am pro shield!

And the allies and your shield wall look great. In a few weeks I'll show you a modern representation of a Space Wolves Shieldwall - armed with the best equipment the Imperium has to offer.

The shields on the Leviathan chests look great! Maybe you could start your knotwork at the shields, "growing" out of them symmetrically? Would be a big eye catcher...

(How "easy" are Leviathans to work with and assemble? Asking because of reasons ;) )

...and a Mastodon. Wow. It'll probably be worthy for Russ to ride in, the way you paint it.

Love? Hate? Different sides of the same coin.

I purchase maybe twice per year and I am notoriously fickle and slow with what I work on, so yes a lot of resin, but mainly because Iam backed up with stuff which I should really get done BEFORE buying more. The mastodon is for a few months down the track though, need to get some backlog cleared first.

Had a nightmare with the airbrush just before coming away to the rig.

Do all airbrushes have issues with paint clogging to lower pressures, or do I need to thin the air paints down further to avoid the issue?

For each 1ml of gw air paint I add around 3-4 drops of thinner.

Or is it just that I am using an el cheapo airbrush... I have given it a full strip-down clan and rebuild, ut got no idea if I have set the needle correctly, Only seems to start spraying with the lever at around 70% pulled back :/

Think I need to take a course on airbrush maintenance.

Anyhoo pictures.

Currently trying to salvage 20 or so Wolves and 5 Templars. The Templars came out a bit too grey, so maybe another wash of nuln oil will help. Alhough they do appear a good bit darker than in thepictures

They look darker, more like the Templar behind the vexilla :)

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20161206_223748.jpg

And the Wolves I am trying to get back to a decent paint job with.

Hints tips and critiques welcome :)

Yeah mate give the Templars some liberal coats of black wash until you get the tone you want.

Good luck figuring out the airbrush issues. I'm terrified of making the leap as while it makes your painting life easier, you really have to treat that machine right.

Thanks Bjorn :)

MosesGunn, frankly my lack of knowledge scares me too.

I am pretty sue I need to make my thinned paints a lot thinner and maybe look at adjusting the needle slightly. It also was probably not helped by spraying in the garage, at night, in sub zero temperatures :D

I have not tried darkening the plate yet, but faffed about with some gold and silver., Man is there going to be a lot of trim to deal with.

And I need to tidy up all my splotches too.

Green for laurels and blue for eyes next,  but is this along the lines of how a Templar should start to look?

Been working on the Wolves a little too.

With airbrush issues, opted for ye good olde drybrushing technique for the armour

They are still pretty rough just now, as I have only applied base colours and a little wash, still no highlights etc

Hoping that paint can do to the helmets what my GS could not :D

Also do I paint the lower helm grey, black or keep it red??

Oh and begun on Geigor, but I have halted as the knife blade is hanging by a thread and I haven't any superglue to fix it.

Got home late on the 27th and not much to update on. Just fixing busted models.

Some nugget snapped Geigors knife off completely and then lost the blade. I have fashioned a new blade and decided to reverse the grip. I reckon it flows a lot nicer  now.

I also started sorting through my 30K forces and this is the bulk of my infantry

So much half painted models, starting to get dispirited :(

Great company command

2 x 10 mantactical veterans and 1 x 10 man seeker squad

Still to go infantry wise are 30 BoP marines not sure what cofiguration to make them, 5 Tartaros and not in photos are another 20 Cataphractii.

I think I have a problem :D

Sorry for the bad quality pictures

Oh and for tthe eagle eyed, you will have noticed that my banner bearer is amongst the 30K great company.

Many thanks to Mactire for the awesome banner bearer, he has now taken his place of honour alongside his brothers

Wow, you better get to cracking... (casting a nervous glance at my own Company... and 1.5 knights... and a Tyranid army rescue...)

As far as the helms are concerned, I feel like red is the way to go, but maybe a tad brighter red to help it pop more... and green lenses. And I like Geigor with the rest else grip better. Just looks more aesthetically pleasing.
