Got a new airbrush in the mail today and have no time this weekend to use it. Looks like Monday will be priming day, Tuesday will be basecoats and Wednesday will be 2nd color day. After that with my normal painting history, it'll be a few months before anything else gets done.

Ordered some Charnel Guard pads . Just had too. Has anyone seen any art work  on these guys ? I have the colors just can not picture the look of the Armor.

AFAIK the only canon picture is the Fellblade from IA2, there's no pics of actual marines. It would basically seem to be an inversion of the Flesh Tearers scheme, so mostly black with Maroon/Burgundy trim. Maybe try all black except helmet, pads and knees?

Impressive Orb! Are those FW Raven Guard packs?

I re-based the last of my older models on to 32mm using adapters. Still need to add PVA / sand to the rim and paint them...

Where did you find Charnel Guard pads man?

Thatd be awesome.

Today I built my spare (deathwatch) captain Artemis to be a tactical Sargent with combi flamer and power sword. I decided to keep the left arm as the deathwatch arm as I recal that when people return from the deathwatch to their parent chapter they may retain it and keep the arm painted silver but the rest of the armour return to the chapter colours.

Has anyone else done this on here? Maybe give me some inspiration as to a good painted model

Yes sir, I didn't clean them up all that good but I had fun experimenting with airbrushing the highlights leading up to the edge highlighting which is what I was used to.

Now I gotta finish a whole bunch of magnetized arms and weapons and also 20 outrider bikes :wallbash:

Played my first game of 8th yesterday.

I took 2k of blood angels primaris (I could have used codex marines for various benefits but decided not to) I had an ally with 2k of red scorpions.

We were against 4k of tau.

We played the mission with 4 objectives on the table.

Tau player had fewer units on the table so got first turn (I rolled a 3 to seize)

It ended up being a very very close game with very back and forth game.

I'll try and think through everything that happened, but at the end of the game my lieutenant contested one objective, two intercessor squads claimed another, my reivers were contesting a third and Culln of the scorpions plus a 5 man red scorpion tactical squad plus a 3 man blood angels intercessor squad, primaris lieutenant, primaris librarian and primaris ancient held the 4th.

Neither side quite managed say the warlord, both got linebreaker, tau having gone first got first blood. For a final score of 7 to us and 2 to the tau.

I forgot their grenades only work on infantry... I used grapnels with them and put them near a skyray and devilfish...

They were resilient enough to survive being shot at by a storm surge and the burst cannons from both tanks - mostly because I kept them in trees.

However.

It's a weird one, I should have outflanked them on the other side where most of the tau infantry was, but as it was, They obviously struggled to put many wounds on the tanks (I found myself wishing for a strength buff).

10 of them have 31 attacks which is going to be fairly good vs lighter infantry or small units of MEQ I guess. But as it was, they were quite lack lustre due to my bad placement of the unit.

My actual army was:

- Primaris captain with power sword and stalker bolt rifle.

- primaris librarian - I failed to cast shield of sanguinius every turn... got smite off well though.

- two primaris lieutenants

- primaris ancient

- 3 aggressors with bolt storm and missiles

- 10 intercessors with stalker bolt rifles, chainsword on sergeant

- 3 units of 5 intercessors with bolt rifles and chainsword on sergeants

- 6 inceptors with assault bolters

- 2 units of 5 hellblasters with normal plasma incinerators.

Aggressors were a nice threat unit, once they wiped out the first thing they could get close to (kroot mercenary unit), the tau player decided they were priority and they didn't last long though - May have been different if I'd managed shield on sanguinius on them.

Reivers as already noted didn't do too well, but that was down to me placing them badly I feel.

Stalker intercessors were fairly good, the -2 AP meant they were able to threaten quite a bit, even if just "plinking" wounds off of vehicles, but they were able to wipe out pathfinder units which helped reduce marker lights.

Inceptors had enough fire power to shave wounds off battlesuits and I made use of them charging to put a few mortal wounds in each round. I think they benefit from being played more aggressive than I've read people do.

The captain wasn't too great, his rerolls were good on the unit of hellblasters near him, but it just made said unit a priority target, as he only had a regular power sword he really wasn't able to do much - failed to kill the battlesuit commander in melee which was irritating.

Librarian put a total of 8 wounds onto a riptide (killing it) via smite over a coupe of rounds (got over 10 with the first roll so used a command point to reroll the wounds and got 6!)

Hellblasters are very good overcharged, but on normal fire they really can't be relied on as an anti tank unit IMO.

Will try the repulsor, redemptor, chaplain and apothecary next time

Anyone with experience doing object source lighting in cockpits? I'm doing up a Fire Raptor and am entertaining the idea of not using the canopy.

Basically I'd want monitors' green lights to bounce on to the pilot.. kind of like this in real life:

Any paint scheme suggestions, using GW/Vallejo paints..? And for the optimal effect, would I hand paint, or airbrush?

You mean like this?

To achieve that, after spraying the interior black I sprayed the pilot grey followed by white from in front / below, then sprayed the inside of the cockpit with Tamiya Clear Green. I think Vallejo also do a clear green paint.

With the Fire Raptor though there are 2 gun pods with pilots inside that don't have a clear plastic canopy so I can't quite use that technique.

I was thinking maybe trying some wet blending (for the first time, ugh) with green on top of a fully painted techmarine red base.

The greens I got are Caliban, Warpstone, Moot, and Biel-Tan wash shade. What should I blend the green with though..?

Anyone still playing 30k? I never have, but plan on getting into it when Angelus hits. I actually having been saving up for Sanguinius model, the books and some other stuff. 8th seems to be consuming everyone's attention (makes perfect sense).

Well if you want to blend red to green go red > orange > yellow > green.

You could try just painting the crew as normal, and spraying very thin successive coats of green over them from the direction you want the light coming from. Then some harder light green edge highlights.

Some Ppl i know stopped to play because of 8th. Some heard hh goes 8th and wait and some rumours said HH stays 7th but gets a corebook with some light changes. I'm just about in the middle to put my ba hh army together so i'm verry interested in the release of angelus :)

HH remains as 7th for now, because it's too much to redo all the legion rules etc at once. It will move to 8th ed at some point though, I'd imagine within the next 2 years. I think the loss of Alan Bligh will have left them reeling somewhat, and delay playtesting.

I got Ultramarines in Heresy and been slowly working on a Zone Mortalis force for Heresy. But I'm not making any more units that couldn't be played in 8th WYSIWIG, because the Heresy games in the Dallas-Fort Worth area dried up and everyone is playing 8th. So, they're Blood Angel allies right now, not a legion. Suzerains will be command squad with storm shields and power axes for the forseeable future. Etc..

Currently in a campaign with my Talons on a Win Streak for the Emperor.

Angelus will let me finally decide on BA or DA for my 30k legion :D

It probably will get 8th eventually, but it works quite nicely in 7th for now.

I started out collecting Talons for HH but then decided that I just can't give up on the IXth for anything and traded all my talons models for Calth boxes and a leviathan dread. Besides Sanguinius for 30k is going to be awesome!! and i have a stellar paint scheme i want to use and it fits 30k better I think. My urge to play 30k though is definitely on hold, 7th ed rules are like nails on a chalkboard right now.

Those are very interresting. I don't think that i would be the only one to appreciate if you put one or two (Three^^) pictures of the raw pads when you come to have them into your hands, and of course, some pictures of the final work.

For all i see, the proportions looks really good and the iconography well respected.
