BA Today

I've built this model and the hand fits just fine, you just have to push on it so it "clicks" into place. It forms a snug fit over the cable, no trimming required.

 

And for some reason I'm building Yellow Blood Angels (Lamenters). So far I've got this:

and a Sanguinary Priest. Any recommendations on where to start with this and what to add next?

My trimmed down version did it, so perhaps it is wise to trim it a bit.

 

As for the box - good for you. Even though we will loose the old-marines at one point, they are useful now and will still be. Even if at one point you will be stripping them for parts to pimp-up Primaris

As for the next steps - you definitely need a third troop choice first and foremost to fill-up a battalion. Either a third Intercessor unit, or scouts, or Incursors will be good. Next I'd say you would need to get a proper JP Captain with TH/SS, then maybe another Sanguinary Guard and/or DC box. After that you will be spoiled for choices really

Happy I could help with the hand thing. It threw me off a bit when I first dry fit it but it's rather satisfying how snug it fits.

 

Flipping through the sprues, even without using the BA shoulder pads I feel like I get a fair bit of mileage out of spreading the shoulder pads around since DC has a chapter shoulder pad:

So that gives some extra shoulder pads for silly things like DC Intercessors (or just giving them to Reivers, the ones that should have been the true DC choice)

Yeah, the DC sprue is a gold mine of bits. And lets be honest - you want to build them as plain as possible as when you get to painting all that bling they wear straight from the box.... It's just nuts :P

Well that and the more bling I save the more I have more my bits box. 

 

I'm already eyeing the extra melee weapon bits they have to spread around.

Are DC and SG considered oldmarines? They’re nice sculpts, IMO they stand up well against Primaris models. Plus they serve super important roles in a BA list.

 

I guess the natural consequence would be that we’ll get an actual model for DC Intercessors that includes melee options (rules as well) and Primaris SG at some point?

The whole Tried-and-True Marines vs NuMarines debate aside....

 

...DC and SG are here to stay for some time to come. Even if they make DC Intercessors their own thing with models and options, they are highly unlikely to have jump packs or the plethora of mix n' match weapon options as regular DC.

 

Likewise, if the UM Honor Guard are anything to go by, Primaris Sang Guard are likely to be a 2-3 man unit and if even if they are awesome stats-wise, they will be unlikely to compete with a 10 man SG bomb.

I have a real problem with loving painting characters and not rank and file models. This goes for everything.

 

I think it's time I own it. Just took a look at all my painted models from the last three years, and I have more fully painted characters than I do whole units of other models. Like, I have like 7~8 fully painted characters and maybe about the same number of total units completely painted.

 

I think it's because I don't have the same amount of time I once did to assembly line. Hopefully I can right that ship. I know I'm going to have more time in the summer/winter because if all goes well with this semester I will simply be studying for boards and doing my preceptorship, which is basically working 12 hour shifts for free, but! The knowledge increase from that has its merit. Cheers to all of those wives/SO for holding down the fort!

 

I'll hopefully be much more active in the coming season change and will pick back up my blog to hopefully prepare for cool events like LVO and the like!

I think the key is to make sure every model feels interesting and has some unique attribute - granted, this is easier to pull off in small armies, but it holds true in larger forces as well. My Intercessor Pack has every single model in some characterful pose or kitbash. I have one with a studded pauldron, a helmet gem and a cross-drawing knife, one who's bellowing a battle cry while firing a grenade launcher, the Pack Leader, who's firing from the hip while shouting at something, a clear Indomitus Crusade veteran who's wearing bog-standard, unmodified Tacticus, has no Wolfy parts aside from his Chapter pauldron, has wargear only out of the basic Intercessor kit and is covered in purity seals... you get the idea. Everyone looks more interesting than rank and file despite being rank and file. This made them an absolute joy to paint, and I want to do the same thing in the future.

 

TL;DR: Build your models like they're all characters and it'll come more naturally to paint them, and be more fun to paint.

Does Blood of Baal have the entire updated points list for all BA units sans Legendary and FW specific ones?

Pretty sure it does - they match with those in CA:19, so if you have that BoB is only needed for the doctrines. 

 

Had a very close game with a DA player tonight, it was an absolute bloodbath. 29/51 of my models dead end of turn 1 after a RW Black Knight bomb when he seized from me. Would have been more if not for transhuman. Fast movement and lots of attacks neutered that death unit end of my T1, and avoided his other plasma death squads. 

 

End of T5 he was 12-7 up on VP's, but I'd managed to pretty much wipe him out in T5 and moved to objectives, and it was 12-12 end of T5, and the game ended when I tabled him and got linebreaker. 

 

Vanvets and DC died ignominously, while my scouts, Stormhawk and libdread did some serious lifting.
