Rise of the Dreadwolves : Crossroads

Im away from my wolves and have been for a few weeks since ive been out here in New York visiting family and helping get some work done for the company. 

What I did get a chance to do is go back to where the hobby began for me and thats Modern Myths a bit of a ways from home. 

Sunday is 40k day up there and man it was on and poppin today no less than 9 games running simultaneously between the main room ( pictured below) and the private upstairs room and the two tables near the front of the shop.


There were a whole myriad of lists I got to play twice I won my first game against a tau player where i lost 3 / 4 knights but ended up tabling him ( I had to or I couldnt have won)  And the second game I played was against Joe a Nice guy and a chaos space marine player. 
The Hellbrute formation was the scariest thing on the board , but he explained to me that there was quite a psychological impact from seeing all those knights on the board.


We were playing Maelstrom 


The Galant Ended up trading for most of the hellbrutes ,after concentrated shooting took some wounds off of them , I felt like It traded well since the hellbrutes were the most dangerous thing outside of the defiler on the board


After that I methodically took out the remaining threats , he charged some termis in to the warden who took em out before they got to swing with thier powerfists. I kept drawing cards for my side of the board so I was able to quickly get points , and his warlord got blown up in his unit of cultists by the errant. In the end we stopped right before I tabled him ( because i find it rude to do so.) 



So I won vs a Tau list via tabling him despite being down 8 - 4 
Then I won vs a Chaos Space Marine list  6-5 

A few notes on the table set up .  All the tables were set up before I got there , my opponent selected the mission and had first turn ( I did not try to seize )  My Opponents were informed up front that I was playing knights and what that entails.

Still a bit jet lagged ,  Got in very late last night  did pick up my upgrade sprues from  the game store today though

Welcome back, friend. It nice to see that you return unscathed from your journey.

 

That new head is boss, as is the wolf helm. Hell, the whole kit (barring the Ragnar pads) is killer!!

Still wanna pick up that GH kit for the ETL??

He had a bunch of bikes lots of grav , Khan was his warlord, he had a grav gun command squad 2 dreadknights a unit of grav centurions , a unit of terminators and two dreadknights 

I had 5 imperial knights in the Exalted Court Formation Warden , Gallant , Errant , Errant , Paladin









One Minute Khan is there

Atleast he charged in and died like a man

Very nice.

Normally I'd feel bad for the White Scars having to face down 5 knights, but seeing as he brought Grey Knights along for the fight I must have misplaced my sympathy.

Yeah Marshall Marcus has trouble understanding  Bjorn's hunting partners as well.  

 

Until he and his Templars are butchering their way through  a hab block and are confronted by an Iron Warriors  Armored column killbox  

 

Lady Tiller shows up and just melts most of the tanks.  

 

Bjorn and his Wolf Guard ride by on their thunderwolves and Bjorn just gives him that " I  told you  so " look and rides off  

 

 

Also I  wouldnt call it a rofl stomp , the guy  brought a very  competent and competitive list   and completely dominated the psychic phase. Considering it was a competitive day , I traveled with the most competitive army I could field.

Funnily Enough  WLK and I  were discussing Wolf King and how Russ viewed the legion and what direction it needed to take.  I wont spoil it for anyone who hasant read the novel ( it is fantastic btw)   Though it calls into question the philosophy of my Great Company.  Is what they believe what Russ actually wanted?   Thats called into question quite a bit after reading Wolf King.  At first I was a bit butthurt about it but WLK  sort of had me look at it from a different angle. 

#If I could give every character in my space wolves army rampage  I would  , I just love that rule.  


The way the 14th is structured is you have an average sized great company with a large focus on  cavalry and salvaged old tech from  ships they have raided during thier travels. 

Then you have the Wolfsworn who have thier own ship and act sort of like a knight house but really they are just a collection  of Freeblades Oathsworn to Bjorn himself  obviously of the six of them some are okay with this others are less than pleased. 

Then you have the ships of  Marshal Marcus' crusade company  ,  A detachment of Black Templar's  assigned to "watch over / follow  / fight alongside the 14th after the 14th cross paths with Helbrecht and the force persuing Gazghul  Bjorn isint terribly pleased with this idea but he cant just tell Helbrecht no  because that might lead to problems.

Bjorn  and Marcus work together on a basis of  mutual respect ( and a shared affinity for relics of thier past  Mkiii armor  old tanks etc )   though the cultures of their forces are very different.   Its mostly a  you  do yer thing I  do my thing and we butcher our way through the xenos heretics and whatever else we come across together. 

In summation 
The First Rule of the 14th Great company is we dont talk  about the 14th Great Company
The Second Rule of the 14th Great Company  is THAT WE DONT TALK ABOUT THE 14th GREAT COMPANY 
The third Rule of the 14th great company is : Rampage  
And the last rule is  IKROFLSTOMP 


​I have been toying with the idea of writing out  a little Journals of the Marked Wulf Crusade  thing from  the perspectives of  Bjorn and  Stybjorn (space wolves) ,  Lord Blackwood and Lady Tiller ( Knights )  , and  Marcus and Tobias ( Templars)    or doing a third person thing that just shows the interactions between the three groups more fluidly but I havent really had the time to sit down and outline or write the way I wish I did. T n T    

" My Jarl distrusts those of witchblood as much as you  do.  When he was a boy a Gothi sentenced him to die. His chieftan , his father sent his four brothers to kill him. He killed all four of them then  when his father came with the rest he killed them too. Since then he has never thought much of those who commune with the spirits of the world and even less of those who commune with the warp." 

Marcus Grunted his tone sounding unimpressed. 

" That sounds like the sort of rumor that circulates about a captain. How do you know any of it is true?"

Stybjorn smiled at those words , his fangs glittering in the light from the lumenglobes of the warcouncil chamber. When he did  Marcus had the eerie feeling he had seen that smile before moments earlier. Stybjorn traced a finger slowly across an old scar along his throat. 

" Because I was the last brother he killed ,  They whisper Kinslayer behind his back they always have  , but I can look him in the eye and say it to his face.  " 

Marcus was immediately troubled by Stybjorn's words moreso then he felt he should have been though like any son of Dorn he composed himself quickly and carefully chose his next words. 

" And yet you follow him , all of you  , from what I understand mostly cast aways and censured throwbacks from  your great companies you follow a man who you know for a fact has no qualms with killing his own?" 

Stybjorn's fanged smile did not fade , if anything it grew wider as he replied. 

" We are a great company that knows what it means to be true to our heritage , we are executioners , we kill our wayward cousins when they turn from the side of the allfather. My brother , Our Jarl  was willing  to slay his kin before the wolf priests chose him , and even then he was good at it. "

I actually dont have the transfers I need to finish this  one tho ,  So its time to buy a space wolf kit for a transfer sheet XD  any  suggestions ?

Possibly getting some Wulfen Models for Valentines Day from  the  Roomate  and I was thinking they could fit better with the 14th if this stalked out with them

After Dodging Spoilers like the plague I got my late valentines gift from the roomate. ( She bought the limited one even tho I told her not to) 






I  also got a box of Wulfen  which will be waiting till ETL   hopefully I can pick up an Ulrik and A second box of wulfen as well for the event.

I am getting my  resources together  for my initial vow  put ulrik together today on my  break 

Wulfen will get put together next  and I have a krom sitting around here somewhere 

I am strongly considering a leviathan for my wolves as well but im not 100% on that yet  pretty likely tho and that second box of wulfen I keep saying I am going to buy  maybe that will be the next two things 


basically im not dead , I know ETL  has started I just need to clear one project off my table and I  will be all in with the wolves again for the duration of the event.

Don't consider the leviathan....just DO IT!!! But seriously, those guys are amazing, even when armed with the steam punkish grav-bombard. Your knight army is sweet, and I can't wait to see you throw that vow up to paint with us!

Primed the Majority of my ETL  vow today 

The Leviathan also got delivered today , probably will work on  getting that together tomorrow. 

In talks with a buddy about buying a knight off of him so I can add it to the next vow  busy busy   here   expect more progress soon.

Thanks ! I dunno what it is about  Leviathans but I just really love these models , and since I  just built two boxes of Wulfen Ill have plenty of bits to adorn the other two   Talon  bros  Hopefully ill be able to use three diffrent front shields , this will probably be the only one with an axe though.
