The NEW "What will 2014 Bring?" thread

Some initial thoughts from a jump list prospective.

With the best will in the world ASM couldn’t punch their way out of a paper bag.  With the ability to take two specials at 5 man  and the Sarge having two pistols, they’ve found their niche. It’s a shame they’ve gone out of troops, but with six cheap five man squads wandering around with four Melta shots each , we’d be bordering on broken.

ASM do compete with Grav Bikes in the Fast Slot, and if anything this slot feels more restrictive than the elites slot. Ideally I’d like 2-3 Grav Bike units, and 2-3 Melta ASM units (without going double detachment). Stormravens in the fast slot too, although I’ve never particularly liked those.

I’ve never really played with DC much. In 5th ed I didn’t like they couldn’t be controlled, and the price of jump packs was too high.  In 6th and early 7th I didn’t like that they couldn’t score (and the jump pacs still the same). In they new dex they’re controllable, can score, have 3pt Jump Packs and can take 3-4 squads of 15.

Likewise Sanguinary Guard. I bought a box back at 5th ed launch, but never used them - far too expensive for what they offered. Now they’re much cheaper, can be taken in blocks of ten. Crucially, when they don’t have a inv save, they have +1I back and can hit before other marines.

I think DC are now very strong, with the Sang Guard better than before, but perhaps not quite as good as DC.

With these two units, and 5 man ASM flying around with double specials, I don’t think jump BA have ever been stronger. I think my lists are going to focus around a block of 15 DC led by Astorath, with everything else being MSU – DC, Sang Guard, Grav Bikers, Melta ASM.

It’s a shame though that the two troop requirement is still there in the new detachment, and I still haven’t got my head around what I’m going to do with those two troops.

Yah, strong jumpers got better, it's just a shame you are forced to have at least one unit without packs in a jump pack list (the named dread from deathstorm). But he can still ride a raven, that'd be his jump pack. The loadout in Rafen's squad is far from optimal too...But they fit in the same raven with the dread smile.png

The Stormraven stayed Heavy Support though, didn't it?...that rumor only lived like 5-10 posts, no? (it was short-lived like that smile.png )

Edit: Loss of Invisibility hurts, but at least now you can focus on biomancy and not feel guilty about it.

Ugh, no more Telepathy or Telekinesis :(

Don't know if I missed it somewhere but do we know what disciplines librarians get?

Libby powers

Sanguinary

Biomancy

Daemonology

Divination

Pyromancy

From page 78 on here mate.

Yea storm raven in heavy from what I have read and buy Cassor a fast attack drop pod is another option.

Just a quick one: We heard early on that Dante strikes at initiative with a S6 AP2 weapon. Is this confirmed? Or is it still technically unwieldy because it's an axe.

And is it the same for Sang Guard? AP3 Master crafted swords (at I value) or Axes (striking last).

Edit: Had Dante Confirmed by Mort's awesome rumour bet thread, anything on the boys in Gold?

Dante's Axe has its own profile, just as power axes do, and apparently his axe is not unwieldily, regardless of it being an axe (it could be a giant dildo, what matters is the profile), so let's rejoice.

SG weaponry seems to be the same.

Edit: The same as they were, not the same as Dante's :)

If a unit from one codex[lets say GK] deep strikes in BA rhino in an army where Dante is warlord, does it get DoA or not?

BA Rhino gets Deep Strike.. how?  Meant to say Drop Pod?

And I think the answer is no - only skimmers and jump units IIRC.

Does Dante reduce scatter on deep strike or does he enable deep strike with less scatter distance for those unit types? The latter would (maybe) allow stormravens to deep strike again - in hover mode they are fast skimmers after all. I guess this is wishful thinking though.

Stormravens are flyers, not fast skimmers.

I believe you've been reading a very old codex ;-)

The Flesh Tearers Formation looks fluffy enough for me as it represents the low number count of the chapter by being almost half a Company. It strikes me as odd though that no DC is included.

Also, can anyone tell me if there is a Chapter Master entry in the Codex?

there is no chapter master entry. just a codex.

i may have to build me some flesh tearers and use that formation and then build me some lamenters and use malakhim phoros :D

3 Blood angel detachments - Dante leads one, Malakhim leads another and Seth leads the last. Glorious

IN DEFENSE OF BAAL!

Also, can anyone tell me if there is a Chapter Master entry in the Codex?

I don't have the dex, but if there was a generic CM included we would've heard by now. Wolves didn't get a generic Great Wolf either, only Logan. I think BA are stuck with Dante and Seth as CM options.

I really love how fluffy the Flesh Tearer formation is.. Half a battle company led by first company veterans because the chapter is few in numbers of marines and captains..  If I had a Flesh Tearer army I'd be very happy with this.  Extra +1I on the charge, the whole formation ignores disorderly charge bonuses..  Lovey.

Now that I think about it, there was a mention in the GW codex description of a new successor chapter, the Carmine Blades. Any word on this from anyone with the dex?...is there only fluff for them or did they get any characters?...I'm guessing nothing but fluff, or we'd know by now. But asking is free :)

Yeah but SW have Wolf Lords which come fairly close to Chapter Masters and If I recall they still have the wolf guard battle leaders which are similar to captains. It would be so easy to add a CM option to the BA codex for those who want succesors or DIY chapters.
