Space Truckin
I've been working on a quick paint scheme to get thru some cultists. Ideally these guys will be the start of my Traitor Guard as conscripts. I've got some dirtying up to do with pigments but thought I'd get some input from peeps here. 1) I would like to give props to the guys at Bitter Old Painters website. If you guys are reading this - thank you for the inspiration some amazing work! So this is my attempt at painting mainly with washes. 2) I would like to get opinions on the flesh tones? Instead of going with a greenish hue I wanted these guys to have a ghastly purplish / bruised skin look to them. Does this look stupid? I'm afraid I've overdone it a bit??? http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/cultists.jpg My LFC ( Least Favorite Cultist ) - I'm planning on chopping up his twin brother. Not sure if he should have a Red eye or should be repainted steel like a metal eyepatch. http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/cultist.jpg Little blurry family photo. http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/scrubs.jpg Thanks any c&c greatly appreciated! There are lot's of amazing painters on this website to learn from! ckpmax1108
Very nice start Brother. The purple tint for the skin tone really works well. A cross of heavy bruising and a frankensteinian creation. keep up the good work :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300851-tzeentch-flavored-black-legion-zombie-cultist-wip/#findComment-3897736 Share on other sites

heralds of excess
The purple flesh looks great, it comes across very unsettling, which is great for those pesky traitors. Keep it up! Space Truckin
It's beginning to look a lot like Chaos... Was able to knock out a squad of 10 'regulars'. It's a quick and easy paint job using lots of washes. The duplicates cultists I plan to do some minor conversions with to mix it up. Primed http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/mobrulz1.jpg http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/mobrulz2.jpg http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/mobrulz3.jpg http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/mobrulz5.jpg http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/mobrulz4.jpg I have a general idea of the back story of these guys. Will type it up once I catch up on real work. Ex Planetary Defense survivors of a orbital bombardment by the imperium. Think Gamma World - mad max - post apocalypse. I want to build some enforcers to look like this! http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/front.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300851-tzeentch-flavored-black-legion-zombie-cultist-wip/#findComment-3906381 Share on other sites
Space Truckin
Had the booth set up so I took a few pics of the mob. I've gone for the bruised skin look and wondering if I went over board on the purple. http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/cultist1.jpg http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/cultist2.jpg http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/cultist3.jpg I've got some custom bases ready to be primed. Once I get em all based I'll probably grim em up a good bit. This was my first experiment painting with washes and i'm diggin it so far. Argent aquila
Very nicely done! Hope you add some traitor guard in there, some conversions with the catachan guard could let your purple shading skillzz shine. K0rtmer
Hey, I like them a lot. I don't think you got carried away with the purple, not at all. They look almost undead to me ... and while I don't know if that's what you're trying to achieve, I do think they look great. How about the second (or rather the first) lot above, the one you posted on January 2? That seems to be a different palette – and perhaps I like it even slightly better? But, then, stuff like that is clearly a matter of taste.I'll check back to see how this is developing. Keep going. Midnightmare
They look really impressive, any chance of a recipe for the skin tone? Space Truckin
Thanks guys. The first batch had more purple wash in it. Quick recipe 1) Primed - white or zenithal 2) Base - 50-50 thinned Vallejo MC Light Flesh. Ended up coating it 2x because coverage wasn't great 3) Wash - 25% Rakarth Flesh + 25% VMC Light Flesh + 50% Medium ( i used Lahmian and water but straight water is fine ) <- added drps of druchii violet wash to taste 4) Highlight(s) use the Rakarth + Light Flesh Mix to hit the high spots and blend. On some I did a little extra dry brush using white or screaming skull Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300851-tzeentch-flavored-black-legion-zombie-cultist-wip/#findComment-3937514 Share on other sites
Space Truckin
Been slowly working on these guys but I figure it's time to make this is my proper WIP thread. Pardon the cell pics. I'll set up a booth when they are finished - finished. Hellbrute needs more highlighting and weathering. http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/csm-hellbrute.jpg The twins - basically base coated at this point. Experimented with different Vallejo Golds / Brass combos http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/csm-twins.jpg A quick family photo getting everything to pretty much the same state. I intend to add more weathering especially rust pigments to the bases. http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/csm-family.jpg Thanks for stopping by! Space Truckin
Nice work so far! Are you thinking of submitting anything for ETL this year? Any number of models will help your faction! Thanks! Just started working on my ETL vow last night for the 1st legion. I'm hoping it will motivate me to finally finish painting my DV boxset from 6th ed! Space Truckin
Not sure if I should resurrect my old thread or post a new on in the csm forum. Trying to figure out what to do with these Snap Fit Marines from the Assassins box set. I mocked up some capes out with blue tac to see how it would look. Obviously I'd do this up right with Green Stuff - but just wanted to get opinions. Not alot I can do with these guys without busting out a dremel. The idea is that I'll paint the set of cultists, csm and Mr. Chaos Sorcerer as Sons of the Cyclops / Tzeentch to go with my small Black Legion army. Capes or no capes? http://www.sinofdamnation.com/images/shared%20pics/snap-fit-csm.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300851-tzeentch-flavored-black-legion-zombie-cultist-wip/#findComment-4207661 Share on other sites
Space Truckin
Ok I'm rebooting my Black Legion and giving my Dark Angels a break till I finish these guys. I'm going to use these guys from my DV set + A:EF to ally with some traitor guard. I'm taking a bit of a break in general w/ 3 month old baby and new house that needs a ton of work. In the mean time I'm going to use time away from painting to write a proper back story for my warband.
