Here's a recently completed addition to the army I'm taking to Adepticon - now less that two months away.  Here's a link to the thread in the Age of Darkness forum.

Thanks. When FW posted the pics of the studio painted Ferrus Manus model I really liked the blue/black colors they chose which inspired me to paint an army with that scheme. It's almost like a "proto" view of the IH colors, i.e. before their deep bitterness pulled them completely into wearing techno-goth black in 40K.

Here's the original thread if you'd like to see more of the army.

Beautifully done, and that's just amazing how perfectly the IH icons from the Land Raider doors fit into the sponson wells.

You have just enough weathering before it just gets bad like a lot of 30k tanks these days.

I just recently purchased a Venator myself, and if I painted it up like this guy, would that be bad?

Thanks gents.

Per the use of weathering I think it subjectively comes down to style.  Sometimes there's an aesthetic to weathering that's not realistic per se but more just looks great especially when done consistently over an entire army.  In those cases more is better IMHO.  Personally, I like the look of a war machine in the filed as opposed to one that's just rolled off the Mechanicum assembly line so that's what what I attempt to show on the model.

@JeffTibbetts:  That affect comes from a dry application of weathering powders.  There's lots of good brands but in this case I used Forgeworld's.  So after I finished the paint application I went over the top with various shades of rust. It really all comes down to brush strokes to "crush" the power onto the surface of the model.  You can also use white spirits to thin them which is more like using an oil based paint.

Here's short doc FW has for free download that describes how to use them:  http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/w/weathering-powders.pdf

Not difficult in the slightest.  Just trimmed off the "door" portion with wire snips and filed down the IH symbol so it had a slight bevel on the inside edge of the circle.

What was most difficult was justifying the cost of carving up the doors to fulfill this purpose.  I guess it's all the same in the end.
