Heresy Dark Angels...he's at it again!

Well I'd like to make my triumphant return into painting and modeling again with trumpets sounding and fanfare, but a hobby log will have to do.

After getting into some games with my ol pal Athrawes, I thought it time to assemble a painted and kitbashed force. Some of you have seen my previous log, but that was eons ago and my modeling is sporadic at best.

Without further ado, here's some of the transfers I've been using:

It still needs a matte coat, but I love how it's turning out. Plus I've got my XVth Cataphracts on there ;)

Some may also notice a beer bottle was used to prop up my spartan. Can you tell I'm in college?

Green stuff in the background may indicate some home made robes in the near future...

Decals looks great. I may have to snag some pending the First Legion's triumphant entry into the Forgeworld books.

Thanks! I got them from another 1st legion enthusiast that used a decal maker to customize them.

These look great, mate!

Thanks for the kind words! Expect more in the near future!!!

Nice to see some I Legion up in here. This might be the first ones I've seen anyone working on.

Yeah, we're few and far between. I got some inspiration from previous pre heresy modelers before the heresy books came out. I knew Elmo was working on some...but idk if they're legion or not.

Tonight and tomorrow I should get some more work done to spiff these guys up. I hope you'll stay along for the ride!

On a side note, does anyone want me to do fluff and short stories or stay strictly to modeling right now?

Nice to see you working on your First, will you also be sharing your experiments at dealing with you Thirst to ;)

Only thing, is the decal on the Leggionaire a bit wonky, as in not centered and at an angle?

Thirst as in my old Flesh Tearers or my accompanying beer choice? :P that was what I did on my old log.

And yeah, I did notice they weren't that centered :/ it was my first swing at it so I will try and see if I can't improve at doing it!

How is there no beer pics yet @_#

Give the men what they want captain!

In all honesty it's great to see you continuing with this, hopefully you add some more jetbikes and Spartans :D

Great work as always DC

Have at thee then blaggard! :D

I will try the transfers on black and green shoulder pads as well. As much as I like a uniform code, I feel that having some other shoulder pads would be good for denoting different origins.

Awesome names. I'm not long off picking up Dragon Age; Inquisition. For all its faults, I enjoyed the combat in DA2.

According to the wiki, here are a few more names;

Delrin Barris

Eron

Greagoir

Guylian

Glavin

Harrith

Martel

Tavish

Ilyas Berasa

Cullen Rutherford

There are few more similarly there if you need =).

Thanks ;) that's where I got most of the names. It's hard to find appreciable knight names.

They looked better when I took the pictures, so sorry for the glare.

Some more progress -

And I think this is a better shot of the Spartan decal

Hopefully I can get some weathering done tonight. I'd like to get some matte varnish, but in the meantime, should I do a last coat over the shoulder pad with the gloss varnish?

I was always hesitant to start a Heresy DA force because I feared that when FW will one day release some DA kits I will get mad because their style doesn't fit what I already started. But seeing yours makes me regret that decision because they really look awesome.

Thanks mate!

I had the same problem and that's why I started with WEs and wanted to do so many other done legions. But I kinda decided to do my own thing because I know I'll get more later anyway ;) I just wanted to get my feet wet.

I have decided that I like the white shoulder pad waaaay better, but at least I learned this earlier on. I have the pads with decals all done and will have pics when I get home tonight.

I do need to finish up basing and painting some of these guys. My next project will be to add a tabard/robe to my praetor.

Anyone have any good tips with green stuff?

Anyone have any good tips with green stuff?

>Open those packs up, cut out the center part where the yellow and blue meet.  This part has already partially cured, and mixing it into your green stuff will result in lumpy green stuff - especially bad for cloaks.  Store yellow and blue air tight and separately.

>Work in sections.  Don't try to sculpt it all at once.

>Consider mixing your GS 50/50 with milliput or magic sculp or something.  This tends to make it more sand-able.

>Consider using tissue paper instead.

Just thought of a few other names for background fluff:

My ship's navigator will be Aisling (which I believe is the Gaelic name for visionary/dreamer).

The ships captain will be named Síle (pronounced Shiela).

Another legionary name can be Gwynbliedd.
