Dantay's VI Legion. Hvarls Headtakers

Dual Mastodons would be cool & define mainland UK :D

Getting a bit of hobby fatigue, especially on the building side of things, so I have decided to go back to older moels which need an update and a bit of a freshen up.

Remember these guys from abut 18 months ago??

I got some AoS bases to try out as Prospero bases and did them as a quick sandy, brown-ish marble effect. It dried matte, so the marbly effect didn't work out so well, but overall I think it is alright and provides a nice contrast to the grey. Covered the skulls with debris... It's pretty basic but works well as a proof of concept... Any ideas for jazzing them up??

As for the terminators themselves, I am going to do a small knot design under the mini legion symbol on the left leg and do the design from the chinfist on the right leg...

Thoughts???

Oh and my sisters dog Not-so is staying for a few days and he chose my study as his bedroom.... GUess my Wolves have a new pack mate :D

Yes they do, The GW boxset is 30 x 32mm base & 40 x 25mm bases for $33 Then a box set of 20 x 40mm and 6 x 65mm (5mm biger than dreadnought bases) for the same price

Some of th bases area bit too AoS for my liking, like the flying comet, but most are pretty workable, and yo can cover up the bits yo do not like with rubble... They might mix well with the urban bases for 40K too.

Finding a use for the 25mm bases might be a pain unless you can trim the edges down and fit them on 32's or press mould them... Do any 30K infantry use 25mm bases?

Thanks guys... Sorry for taking so long ti get back here

Well spent all my time working over the past 3 weeks on my wifes essays for her degree (1x2000 word, 1x4000 word and 2 x 3000 word), so faff all time for painting.

This is where I got to.

Trying rune marks and patterns on arms and legs, some came out better than others... Also some battle damage, but the colours all seem to blend into 1

Some tidy up needed... Trying to rune initial with folks usernames from BnC, while actual initials go on the legs. Battle damage has slightly covered some of the runes

Thanks guys.

These terminators are pretty much done now, going to add a unit marking on the left left just not sure what yet, then some debris on the bases.

In other news, been gone for a long weekend with the family.Went to Nairn and spent some time in Aviemore. I cannot recommend Landmark enough, such a great day out!!

Been plugging away at the mastodon. Unfortunately there is a slight curve in the hull. but nothing I cannot overcome. I ave also taken ut the rear htch piec for now as it makes the command section sit too high, so it needs shaved down.

So glued and clamped the model before I went away

Also did a spot of work on the AA turret. Ditched the resin barrel and decided to do my own from brass.

I think it went okay, but need to find a decent way of cutting brass rod without killing my blades, any ideas?

Will do away with these bits and stick the barre ends on, not sure if it needs something in the middle though

Absolutely fabulous!

On the brass rod, I have a dedicated set of pliers to cut them that are harder strength than your regular ones to avoid messing up the expensive GW ones. You can get plenty for 5 quid.

Then you can easily file the end to be completely flat with a brass etch file.

FW do charge a lot.

I can safely say though it was quite a bit my fault.

I should take my time with kits like these but find i do 2 thongs.

1. I over extend myself skills wise. Often Jeremy Clarksons phrase pops into my head just before I embark on something foolish.

How hard can it be?

Plus I meed to invest in decent modelling tools rather than use whatever is to hand.

2. I am not patient. Which leads to mistakes.

I almost glued my hands together this evening so that was a good time to stop.

I stuck the track section into a pan of boiling water for a good few minutes i reckon and between that and my clamps I got a half decent fit.

Then spent a lot of time puttying. I was using your trick from the Spartan BCK to eliminate gaps. Was halfway successful.

Will do pictures tomorrow. Finally it is taking shape ☺

Your Wolves all look wonderful Dantay! That Mastadon looks like a pig to assemble, a friend of mine has one for his Fists and he has a similar experience to you; curved hull and big BIG gaps. Keen to see it finished up man!

ksmetals.com sells a tubing cutter specifically for cutting brass, aluminum and copper in hobby applications. I bought mine at my local model train shop several years ago and it still works like brand new. It makes very clean cuts and is easier to use than a knife.

Ephrael, I will look into them. We have tube cutters at work, but 6mm is the smallest they have.

Grieux, I have pliersfr that :) I should have said tube, I did use pliers before, but they crushd as they cut, and it was a struggle to get the circular shape back.

Rangaman, Tell him to persevere with it, it does get better. Part of being impatient was gluing the track sections on wrong. I set them flush to the bodyalong the tp which is wrong and left a gap which I have had to fill. You will see from the pictures. Clamps will be your friends new BFF for sure on this one.

I had the one track section a mile out and was going to chop a v in to bend it but a very VERY long soak in boiling water ( I had the pan on the hob and the hob set on max I gt a tiny bit of flex in it ad the claps did the rest. If he has t go down that route be super careful ans the fine detail will become super squishy and I smapped the flimsy front bit off, luckily I have it to glue back on later :)

Beyond that I wish him luck h and lots of dry fitting.

BCK, thanks man, might take you up on that offer. Been using a mix of either putty filler, (white stuff, recommended by Flint ages back) or a GS milliputt mix, which has been okay for filing and carving so far. Just got to remember to wet everything before working on it. Thinkng liquid GS might be good for the smaller areas where the putty has broken away?

Pictures of the behemoth so far.
