Hoping tonight to get the Bronze and steels painted, then armour gems and tidy up.

I had thought of that, but figured it might be a bit too much, so I cam e up wit something else.

 

I dropped him and he shattered, so I had to re-assemble him.

 

Hoping I found all the parts where he got chipped.

 

I was not sure about a shield design, but I remembered he wanted red with a white aegizhjalmar on the shoulderpad, but being wolf guard we went yellow and black

 

So I used the colours on the shield instead.

 

As he is Welsh, I tried the red green and white, but it was a bit Christmas-sy, so toned the green right down..

 

How is this?

So I went with the first option, I think it looks pretty good. There is a slight silvering, but I put it down to not shaving off the rivets, plus I could not get my microsol and microset offshore, so just used gloss varnish as a base, decal on, kept it wet to help it slide around. Patted it down gently and let dry. then sealed with gloss and ten a coat of Lahmian medium (didn't have matte varnish unfortunately) It worked out okay. May weather the dread a little bit to blend the silvering out.

 

I am in 2 minds about the dread, something seems a little off to me, not sure if it is too much gold or the red. I am tempted to re-do the shield with a steel/silver look. I am also not sure about the the right shoulder. Leave it grey, paint it black like the left knee or cream it up like the other shoulder? I am also considering maybe a combiination of cream/black or yellow/ black, like a pack marking.

looks awesome.

 

I think the only thing it's missing is some detail around the head area.

 

It's all mono-colour so gets a little lost.

 

Eye-lenses will sort it out! Maybe some fur on top?

I see what you are saying about the head.

 

I did do the lower portion steel with a red stripe down the centre of the top half, but though it looked goofy.

 

The head is maybe too far in, but could try going for a norse specatcle helm, like I have done with my infantry?

You could put one of the smaller decals on there? One of the gold ones would perk it up a touch

If I hadn't assembled him already then yes I would consider a decal on the head, but it is too recessed and curved to try.

 

I did also try doing freehand spectacles, but that did not work out either, so for now, I have gone for the old standby of red lower half, will maybe try something with the top-half tomorrow.

 

Also decided to play with the small stuff and finishing the shield plus volkites, I think has made a huge difference, plus had fun bluing the exhausts and weathering the stacks

 

It's a shame that the pictures are so dark, as the gems came out quite nice and the eyes too, will hit the volkites with lamenters yellow when I get home

 

Fur on top was also a consideration Charlo, (one of my new colleagues is called Charlo) but I need to put the phosphex/ missile launcher up there. I have 2 SW contemptors to cannibalise, so I can maybe get the pelt on one of the shoulders

 

For the knees I am thinking to follow the artwork in Inferno and use the Ymir symbol on one and a VI on the other. The VI denoting he is one of the old Wolves, Terran and was there before they became Wolves. The numeral losing its importance within the legion as the structure changed to reflect the Fenrisian culture

Didnt feel much like painting the dread last night, so did something else.

 

Painted the half built base :D

 

I know I still need to add all the rubble etc to go around all the milliputt moulded debris, but I just wanted to see roughly how it would look when all mocked up

Finished, for now. Will re-do the base when I get home.

 

Painted up the drill so he could switch between the 2 if needs be.

 

Also tried some brown instead of black on both the cream and grey to see how it would look.

I am looking at axes for him. I want it to be a big axe, as it is called Hearth Splitter

 

So I looked at an old slayer axe from the fantasy dwarf range

I also want to get rid of the twin drums on his "Heavy Bolter" and reposition the left leg a little.

Could be the angles, but his legs look very weedy for the sheer torso on that lad!

 

I like the first axe but feel like it should be double headed for some reason...

The legs do look too small in my opinion, you should get some terminator legs for him.

IN the meantime, while I am offshore should I paint up the Sicaran Venator or Primaris Lightning?

So I have decided to do a flyer...

 

And it will be in non-Space Wolves colours

 

That way either my old man or me can use it in-game (if he ever chooses an army)

 

I want to do a Star Wars inspired colour scheme, but I am torn between the traditional star wars colour scheme or Poe damarans fighter colours

The off white colour will be okay to work with, the dark patches and the yellow will make nice contrasting colours and the lighter main colour will help show weathering and battle damage

This is where the Lightning is at just now, just sketching around. Also the black is just primer (which went on horrible, due to freezing conditions in the garage), so it will get painted over no matter what

I think black and orange would be a nice contrast to the Greys & reds of the main force.

 

It's also unlike any legion so would stick out in a nice way.

What about white wings, black fuselage and orange detailing.

Or black wing & white body?
