Black, grey and white are all very populr base colours for a lightning

A bit more Dusty Crophopper than Poe Damaran, but not too bad. Paint is still very crude as I am not going to start doing real work until I settle on what it is I plan to do.

Thanks BCK, it has taken me a little out of my comfort zone I have to admit, I am itching to get back to the grey again!!

 

To see them amongst Wolves, that will be in a few weeks yet, when I get home. Unless my wife gives birth and they rush me off of this tub!!

 

Tried to do white, but I think I overthinned the paint as it has come out really streaky!!

Hoping to make a glaze with thinned down admin grey and white to see if it can even it all out.

 

I think airbrushing with white would have been a safer bet.....

I am trying some new paints and washes, still not 100% on them and went overboard on the staining from the exhaust vents.

Now that I am home, I had a sit-down at my hobby area to take stock.

 

And I realised that I am losing my direction. I have a lot of hal done models but no clear idea of what I want the to be or how I want to finish them.

This guy for example... I envisioned him as a caster of runes, maybe conneected to the 13th company, but how do I gt the rune-caster look across?

What would make him "pop"?

As I look at my collection, I am struggling to see it as a cohesive whole, certainly among the HQ choices.

 

This is abut how far along I got with Hvarl... I cut 1 of the legs and widened his stance, an gave the axe an actual edge. Ii also got fed up with the blight launcher and swapped it for a heavy bolter, and used a drum magazine.... Still not sure if I should make it belt fed the same as the SW terminator assault cannons

Did a bit of changing around, tried mounting the heavy bolster on the side of the fist ala grey knights, but I did nt have the bits to make it work.

 

Did way with the power fist and shortened the arm slightly.... Have given up on imagining Hvarl using the axe in 2 hands (for now).

Was a wee bit heavy handed with the sponge, but for now I will call this done. Will stain the glass and do chipping round the cockpit when I get home (maybe even design and preint some decals too)

Thanks Helterskelter... He is tiny, but getting bigger every day.

The third head is one of my favourite Space Wolf heads, a bit of no nonsense badass look rather than the usual howling at the moon stuff

 

 

I've got those, iron warrior helms on my mkiv slayers,too, really good norse feel.

Yeah those helms are brilliant, might try to modify a few to have the "spectacles" if I get the time

 

Raising the heads was just a bit of fun really, when I pu the SW torsos on the mark 3 legs the belts kept catching on the tops of the armoured thighs, so i used a ball of green stuff to raise it up slightly. It seemed to stretch te marine a wee bit and I thought to do the same with the heads too, sometimes the ylook a bit cramped into the torso, slightly neckless. I am still not 100% as I think some look a bit like mini-giraffes, but again it gives them a nice height. Will probably pull the heads loose and tidy up the milliputt a wee bit when I get home

 

And Cheers, he got home on the 12th (same day I had to go back to work offshore booo...)

Thanks you Pearson73. The helms are great and I like using the mark 2 helms with targeters for the support squads.... I am however left with a bunch of iron skull helmets.... What to do??
