Greetings Brothers and Sisters,

Welcome to my new hobby blog, I will attempt to make the VII Legion proud. Here you will find everything from finished minis, WIP's, fluff to BatReps I am also taking the plunge into painting up a Zone Mortalis set from Forge World.

I started this army about 2 years ago and it has been growing ever since. I have been through many different methods to make yellow and eventually I came across the yellow recipe from Forge World and gave it a go, the results were fantastic. It's reliable and repeatable which in turn makes me want to strip any mini not painted in this manner about 50% of my army to get that uniformity that we all desire.

Case in point: The Command Squad on the left, the Sergeant, Contemptor and the 3 right hand columns are all the FW recipe.

To strip:

20+ Tactical Marines

3 Contemptors

2 Breachers

To build/paint

20 Breachers

10 Auto Cannon gunners

10 Cataphractii (5 built and mostly painted)

5 Templar Brethren

Legion Glaive

2 Las Rapiers

Zone Mortalis (Lots)

Forge World has shown the Imperial Fists mad love as of late, that said I think that I am going to skip out on building dedicated Phalanx Warders as I HATE the helmet in the kit, I may get a set or 2 just for the shields though. Besides adding some Land raiders and the Characters as they are released I am going to let my wallet and wife take a break from large purchases for a while!

And some pics of various parts of my army in action!

More as soon as I have it

Cheers

Any chance you might be able to share the yellow recipe with us? Your Fists look simply fantastic!

Sure thing brother,

All of this through an airbrush,

Basecoat white

Layer 1. 50/50 Tamia flat yellow, Tamiya flat red

Layer 2. 75/25 Tamia flat yellow, Tamiya flat red

Layer 3. Tamia flat yellow

Layer 4. 75/50 Tamia flat yellow, white.

Layer 5. (the recipe calls for the Tamiya clear yellow) I use Casandora yellow.

Later 6. Wash with equal parts mix of Agrax, Sepia, Ard coat all thinned down.

And that is it!

I did find to my dismay Lemanters Yellow, this glaze is much closer to the Tamiya clear yellow and it makes the minis allot brighter than mine currently do. The knock on effect of this descovery almost brought me to tears....... I have to strip each and every last painted Imperial Fist I own. The only good news is I have a solution available here in germany that must be 3 parts water 1 part Warp. It strips paint like you won't believe and isn't harmful to plastic/resin/metal. I will have to set up a rotation for stripping so I can still have a playable army as I go forward.

I am currently building 10 heavy support Marines with Auto Cannons, I have chosen MK IV armor for the squad, my rational is that MK IV has better auto senses but less durable than the heavy MK III that everyone else wears in my force. Weaker armor, better perception hang back and drop rounds from a distance!

So I have done a little work on my Heavy support squad and first up is the Sergeant *note that the Micro Sol is still working its magic!:

Now I have a community question, What yellow is better? I like the middle as it has depth yet pops more than the others. Your thoughts?

Without intending to make a Tactics thread out of it, does your Heavy Support squad have Hardened Armor?

They do not, this torso is part of the Mk IV weapons upgrade set and I only used it to make him stand out within the squad.

I wanna see more of this battle!

Ultramarines + Imperial Fists Vs. Death Guard + Night Lords. a tough fought game that ended with an Imperial Victory!

I like the middle one best.

Not too much weathering, though!  It seems that there is a preference to make our Great Crusaders look like they all just climbed up out of the trenches after a three-year siege followed by house-to-house and room-to-room fighting against an army consisting entirely of Siege Dreadnoughts.  But shouldn't these guys be spending all of their time fighting and then fixing and then polishing and then polishing and then polishing and then polishing their armor?  I mean, pre-Codex, it's not like their lives are all that regimented.  They had hobbies.  Like unarmed combat practice, and armed combat practice with swords, and armed combat practice with axes, and shooting practice, and polishing armor.  Occasionally, they might tell a remembrancer about a funny story that turns out to be entirely situational humor...good times....
