Great muted tones you have used...makes them really look the part!

Nice pictures aswell as you captured alot of the details on the models that I haven't seen or didnt know they had.

How long is taking to paint them compared to marines?

Oh and nice paints in the background ;-)

This guy probably was done over a period of three days with about 1-3 hours each session. Next one Ill time and tell you, but they take just about as long as MKIII Iron hands SM do, but I feel these guys have much more detail, not to mention I get to paint colors other than Black and silver which is nice.

Reinforcements on the way. These guys have been put to the side for too long, with this whole ETL thing I have put a lot of time into my Iron Hands but I only have 1 tank left for them and after that Ill be 100% SA. Also Ive been working on some of the Units Fluff check it out here and let me know what you think. Can't wait to get back to these bad asses!

ALSO does anyone know how to change the title of this post? If you do can you PM me with an explanation. Would like to change it from

Solar Auxilia Operational Detachment 504 to 504th Solar Auxilia Operational Detachment

So phase 1 is complete I decided to go with Vallejo's Russian Green 71.017 and sticking with Khaki Brown 71.024 on the gunner.

Finished them both off with Liquitex Satin Varnish, which I wanted to know has anyone else used this stuff its more glossy than I had expected to the point that I thought it was gloss varnish after the first time I applied it.

Just show your thread. Really like the feeling of Army you got with the color you chose. Cant wait to see more of them.

Regarding liquitex satin varnish. It is a bit glossy but when it dries it is less so than when you apply it. Talking about those varnish I find them a bit thick when I apply them with my airbrush. Do you dilute them or just apply them out of the bottle?

I also found them very thick so I used 75/25 Varnish to water and that seemed to solve my problems, before it would gunk up my airbrush but now it flows nice a smooth.

I had the same issue. When I use the varnish I then spent hours cleaning my airbrush (to the point that I even contemplated the possibility to buy a cheap airbrush just for that purpose). I will try your mix. Thanks mate :)

Looking awesome man! The Dracosan is one of my favourite tanks biggrin.png

Thanks man, also the Drac is one of the easiest kits I have seen, its only like 4 parts, then the guns and gunner. And it was a really well done cast no warping and no real need for any green stuff. I will be getting a few more as this is suppose to be a Drac Company similar to US Army Stryker Company.

I found inspiration for my tanks with this

Every time I look at the Malc or the Drac this is what comes to mind the Mk1 and Mk2 that the brits used in WWI. Will be using oil paints to get the grime look this will be a first as I have never used oils before. Any suggestions for weathering?

Updated my uniform pattern replaced all the olive green with Tank Ocher and I think that just looks a whole lot better. Still a WIP mind you need to highlight next but I think the shift in colors turned out very well.

Added a medic detachment and some extra special weapons for my command squad. Until FW makes SA Docs and a Weapons the TS guys will have to do. On that note I really like what GW has done with these guys they look awesome and if I get tired of 30k I may start a small army of these guys.

Man, this thread is gold. Something about the colours feels like they shouldn't work at all, yet they totally do. It adds a sense of realism and classic WWI- and II-ness, which actually kinda works even more given the antiquated (relatively...) 'primitive' look of the 30K models.

"Reinforcements have arrived" or I guess it would be more appropriate to call them Replacements.

hope you guys enjoy and I hope this helps if you are on the fence about buying these guys or wanting to know just what bits you get.

My biggest problem is a melta and Grenade launcher? Why not two of the same even two meltas I could work with.
