So now that I am back at the desk building up the models in my collection I've been looking into what I can add to my existing Death Guard force, since I haven't gamed in a very long time it's been able to sit in boxes catching dust until now.  I've been toying with a few ideas and additions to the force mostly involving troops on the ground instead of armour and with weaponry not found in 40k so easily.  Some of you guys have already been an absolute blessing in helping me out with ideas already, so now I'd like to build on that and move forward a bit more.

Please could you guys help me out with some ideas and suggestions as to what I could add to my existing force to compliment and expand it.

So far I have the following models to include:

Typhus

Praetor (Cata)

Consuls (Volkite-Moritat, MoS, Champ)

Command squad models (x2)

Deathshroud (x5)

Apothecaries (x2)

Contemptors (x3 all with magnetised arms inc 2x DCCWs with grav, 2x TLLCs, 2x Kheres, HCB etc)

Destroyers (x10 JPs magnetised)

Tacticals (x20)

Breachers (x20 (still haven't committed to putting Volkites or mixed Melta / Flamer on these)

Sicarans (x2 w/LCspons)

Grave Wardens (x5 great models but doubt I'll ever include them in a list, tempted to convert to basic cata-terms)

Rhinos (available if needed)

LR (temp stand in for Spartan)

Breachers are a model / fluff related purchase etc, would adding ten more marines to make up 2x 15-man Tactical Squads as well as the Breachers be a positive way to go ?  Might give me more flexibility and objective taking potential whilst splitting the enemy fire amongst more targets.

Or... what about either a Tactical Support Squad with Volkite Calivers or Heavy Support Squad with Volkite Culverins.  If I did this, I could add more Volkite across the board including HQ, Apoths and Breachers etc to saturate firepower.  I'm thinking the Heavy Support would be good with the DG RoW but worried about their mobility and usefulness alongside what I already have.  Other weapon choice options considered.

Terminators - although I'm not sure I want to turn the list into prioritising their use, I do really miss the Cata terminator models.  Would they be a good addition to what I have, or would I need to change too much to make them work / fit and centre a theme around them?  Also, how should they be equipped - axes, fists or other, with Volkite Chargers or basic combi etc?

Armour - I hate flyers but love the Caestus, hate arti but love the Sic's and Contemptors - however I value and welcome suggestions - and yes, the Deredeo is on my list at the top for that third Heavy Support option.

Your advice is most welcome, thanks!

Definitely another tactical squad since you sorted out the spartan issue.

Once you got that, I would look into a superheavy, like a Typhon. it's very deathguard ish in design and application, and you could stand to gain some more anti armour options.

Thanks guys, so another 10 tacticals for 2x 15-man Tactical Squads comes highly recommended...

I like the idea of the Typhon, as you say very DG-like, I'd be fighting myself over that or a Fellblade though!

For more immediate Anti-Armour do you have any further recommendations outside of the Typhon?  I've thought about the Grav based Rapiers, and adding a few more dual DCCW with Gravs on the contemptors for a full talon, just not sure what would help me more when it comes to actual gaming with them.

That depends on your goals with the anit-armour. with Rapier mortars having both shells now, they are the better option against just about anything save the front arc of a spartan with flare shield.

Grav rapiers are not cheap and fairly short ranged. They are naturally an anti-transport option because of this, and the fact that anything that comes out of it will have to deal with the dangerous terrain.

A Primaris Lightning is just a great tank kill with S8 armourbane kraken missiles. It also helps you use those usually barren fast attack slots.

Edit : typos

I'm with Dallo even though I cringe at FW losing control of heresy stuff as an IF player I would love to see plastic breachers s I could get 40 breachers up for less the half a grand if I where you I would flesh out another tac squad or get some termites both are very flexible so offer good bang for the buck and infantry always good in a dear guard army

Thank you both, indeed I agree with your reasoning on waiting for GW to put up the FW stuff in their stores, that and the waiting for what GW will be supplying.

I sorta hope that GW won't do plastic breachers anytime soon - if they did, I know I would just have to get that small ZM list I wanted with Polux at its head which means a whole host of bits!
