As promised, my tutorial for painting skitarii quick..

Step 1 : spray with metal (GW leadbelcher or AP gun metal)

I normally don't glue the torsoes of the models with coats (infiltrator princeps and skitarii troopers) but a recent battle forced me to do so. I recommend however to make the 2 first step with torsoes unglued onthe legs.

Step 2 : paint the inside of the coat with Khorne red then cover the entire model with Nuln Oil. This is why you shouldn't glue the torsoes before this step. Some parts are really difficult to reach with your brush and you risk to put khorne red on the legs. Since some parts will be repainted in black anyway it's not THAT important but painting the torsoes separately is really easier. Once the Nuln oil has dried, glue the torsoes.

Step 3 : drybrush the metal part with Necron Compound then paint the outter parts of the coat (and the infilitrators armours) with Skag Brown. This will be your base for your orange to prevent any shiny effect due to the metal undercoat.

Step 4 : paint all the Skag brown parts with Jokaero Orange

Step 5 : cover all the Jokaero parts with Seraphim Sepia

Step 6 : make all the higher parts of the legs and the cables with Abbadon black

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y50/Masteravoghai/Tutoriaux/0DB07BD9-FB89-410C-B863-CD86C85FA3AB.jpgd

Step 7: Make all the leather details and the guns lower part with Dryad brown. Then make the relief parts of the guns and the alpha armour with Balthasar Gold

The radiation accelerator is treated with Temple guard blue. You have to dilute your paint so that it looks like a wash. Then cover the entire part AND also the closest locations of the gun in contact with the accelerator.

Step 8 : use Jokaero orange to enlight the coat. Use Khorne Red to enlight the inner parts and the purity seals

Step 9 : make a mix of 50% Jokaero orange and 50% Bone white to make the last highlight of the coats. Do the same with the inner parts with Mephiston red

Step 10 : Use a mix of Temple Guard blue and Scar white to enlight the rad accelerator. Then add white to the mix and make a second highlight. Finally, use pure white to make a thin line on the top. Then use Abaddon Black to make the edge of the taser goads.

Step 11 : treat all the details parts like lenses, leather parts, pipes, cables, gold... To enlight them slightly. Then apply the decals. Once dried, cover the decals with Lahmian medium. Make the lenses and other shining parts with varnish.

Step 12 : I use Rhinox hide to do the weathering. I use blister foam to apply it. As the models are small, make sure that you remove the maximum paint before applying it so that it makes small spots. Then make the lower part of the coat with a brush so that it forms an irregular line. Remember that the lower parts are always dirtier than the upper parts.

Your skitarii is now done and you can make the base with the colour/flocking of your choice. I personnaly use the technical paint from GW. Once dried, I use Agrax Earthshade and then I glue some dried herbs tuff.

Man that glow effect looks familiar . . .

Great stuff in this thread Master Avoghai!  I really like your weathering work (so easy to do, and yet so distinctive).  I can't help but want a full army shot, even if it's WIP:happy.:

The bases are drying... Btw using a hair dryer to accelerate drying of the technical paint is a bad idea... You need a hot level to really have an effect... Problem is : the base won't resist the temperature... :S

The second onager is done

I'm actually waiting for a friend trying to duplicate the weapon rotula so that I may switch the weapons...

I'll try them vs Tau tomorrow, hopefully I'll get some pics.

The good thing of the day is that magnetizing the feet and make the torso separate from the legs was evwntually worth it : I managed to put 2 knights in a GW case...

In those times full of discount boxsets of knights, some of you may appreciate... ;)

Next step? Win a battle :D

I've lost this week end against tau. I need to improve my playimg skills with this army and lose my Dark Angels bad habits ;)

As for painting, I need a ironstrider and 3 more kataphrons.. Then I'll need a squad of rustalkers to finish my war convocation. The next add on will be essentially knights to play my 4 knights army, and maybe more onagers and skitarii because I love painting the models... Depends how the future army books turns on...

I've received my extra rotulas today hence I will be able to swap weapons when I want http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y50/Masteravoghai/Mechanicus/8C59247D-796B-4B84-9568-AA83D0A74735.jpg

Happy man => :yes:

I wish I had done this! Magnetizing that was such a pain!
