Members of the MDRC, you may have seen Robbienw's excellent posts about the forthcoming Angels of Caliban in the BL sub-forum. Here's a particularly interesting snippet:

The Dark Angels have less Mechanicum personnel than other Legions. This is because they were fully formed as a fighting force before the Emperors alliance with Mars, and their support structure was made up of the emperors terran technicians, and this has continued through the centuries of the crusade. They do have some mechanism personnel, but noticeably fewer then the other legions.

The warp weapon technology the Dark Angels possess is specifically stated to be of Terran design, not martian.

So, could this lead to the creation of an affiliated club: the Terran Death Ray Club? And, just as importantly, what noise do warp weapons make? VWOIP?

Wow, that's a really interesting snippet !

Intriguing snippet, brother. I think perhaps, at best, a subdivision of the regular club would suffice although many more details and interested parties are needed for that to happen.

As for warp weapons, I would think it would be a similar sound to vortex weaponry (missiles, grenades) when they go off. Here's a video of weapon sounds that people may find relevant. Four minutes forty-four seconds is the mark for the noise you want. Noises are alleged to come from this publication: http://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/Munitorum-Volume-I.html

Sorry for the double post but this eve I thought I'd try and do something that may be useful to some brothers and sisters, first a PICTURE HEAVY WARNING so I bring you:-

The Helterskelter Telerac Pattern Volkite Culverin mounting procedure!

What you will need:

Superglue

Tweezers

A take out plastic tub or other suitable wide tub that can withstand boiling water

One pre built marine to the degree shown

Your clean Volkite parts

Step one: using the superglue, glue together your Culverin rig as shown. While this is drying boil the kettle and fill your recepticle. WARNING BOILING WATER CAN CAUSE SERIOUS HARM!!! BE SAFE, IF YOU ARE A YOUNGER FRATER FOLLOW THIS TUTORIAL WITH A BUDDY OR PARENTS

Step 2: using the tweezers, lift your rig and carefully submerge into the water, it will take about 10 seconds, if that, to go as floppy as you need to work the piece into place

Step 3: remove the piece from the water, carefully dripping away excess water, we now have around 30 seconds to work the piece on place, i have asbestos fingers with callous' due to guitar playing and gardening so I can handle parts with little to no problem from the heat, you may not be so lucky so be careful! Line up the back pack and the hand to their relevant positions, but it is OK if you don't get it first, second or even third try, be patient, the water stays hot for a good while, you will get it :) once positioned, hold until the rig is reasonably firm.

Step 4: use your superglue to cement the rigs position and when dry finish your model!

And that my dear members of the Martian Death Ray Club is that, I hope this may help some overcome their fear of FW pipe bending, or just generally be a little bit useful.

Now to eat a chicken saag and bawl my eyes out to the newest Ghibli film

My box of choom came from the UK a couple days ago.

Progress/Test fits:

I've also decided to go with the telerac culvs over the Jetbike versions. They fit better, and have the crescent shroud like the other VoLTE weapons on this beast, so it'll tighten up the unity of the model IMO:

Hope to have this built by weekends end :)

  • 2 weeks later...

So I was just listening to the Wolf Hunt audio drama, the mini sequel to The Outcast Dead (which was absolutely fantastic IMO), and there is a sequence where a volkite gun is used.

Being that it is an audio drama and not an audio book there was an accompanying sound effect...and... sadly *choom* is not the sound GW went with, more like a *weeeee-bzzzzz*.

Thinking if this is the only "official" sound effect for volkite, gotta say im a little disappointed :(

A volkite makes a 'Choooom' in Macragge's Honour (the graphic novel), if I remember correctly.
