For the past few years i've built roughly similar armies relying mostly on overwhelming firepower to form the basis of my tactics. As an iron warrior to the most part that's worked well for me, serving to re-enforce my first choice legions play style.

However i've found myself in danger of stagnating, going for what i know will win over what might win if i'm skilled enough. So it was, 4 weeks ago, I began to devise a plan. I would develop an army that's very familar yet totally again the playstyle I have. The solution cam to me; Raven Guard.

In 30k Raven Guard have great lore and a insanely cool play style and in 40k they have some unique attributes.

Over the next three months i'm going to build a functional fast drop force capable of doing doing alot of damage but without relying too much on the conventional sources of fire power. In the meantime here's my opening soft-core shot; A drop pod.

Thanks guys! I aim to have a pretty brutalised looking raven guard force, but one still maintaining an air of bad-ass.

Now while i work on the squad i thought i'd try a bit of photo shoppistry.

XIX Legion; Deep Space Predation Fleet

According to the raven guard's history, when corax assumed control of the legion it's original commander and part of the ravens was given a mission to hunt in the out black. In the time before the drop site massacre these were barely considered as part of the legion, looming in the deep black as predators. When corax gathered the survivors these would be called back into service with what little remained of the raven guard legion.

With the new marine codex coming out, and the potential for modelling opportunities being ten fold with this project i thought i'd see what peoples thoughts are.

here's a visual link as well as lore. Note grey armour, complex patterning on the armour.

Now, given the wealth of conversion opportunities this presents i feel it would be a waste to limit myself to a 'typical' legion force, especially when there is such an interesting quirk in the lore.

Without the marines codex this is all just theory, but i wouldn't mind peoples opinions before I commit to anything

Lorgar the Corrupted, my weekend project has entered the paint in progress stage. There's still much to be done before I can call him finished, but so far he's looking the part.

Wow, excellent job on that Lorgar! Your "nearly finished" is my "pipe dream." msn-wink.gif

But wait, we're changing gears to Word Bearers now?

One off weekend project, though i do own gal vorbak and the mhara-gal. The ravens are on the books but i have a lot of building to do before i can paint them, and before i see the new codex in full i can't decide the full list. It also seemed fitting to have a corrupted lorgar appearing in the same thread that one day, when FW get round to it, Corax will appear in.

For my next kitbash, i actually have a unique conversion. I've used a Sons of Horus Reaver, a MKII command head, a MKIV assault arm, a devistator open hand and a blood angel axe to build Tollock 'Shadow Eater'. He's the first of the three librarians i'm building... and i may or may not have painted him.
